| We need to be careful having too many Saints players in the squad, they can be very disruptive. Allegedly.

| Foster, technically good. Rarely caught out of posisition, virtually guaranteed to make a try worth 6 points but is he better than Briscoe, Hall, Cudjoe or Charnley?? I'd say no.
Lomax is outstanding and should be a shoe in.

| Quote ="SmokeyTA"Bloody hell, Ryan Hall scored 23 tries last year, 28 in 2009, and 14 so far this season, he made 3300 yards in 2009, 2800 in 2010, and 2000 so far this year, 78 tackle busts in 2010, 70 in 2009, and 44 so far this year, all of these are among the top 20 (most in the top 5) of any player in SL, never mind wingers, its pretty harsh to say he has done nothing.'"
Agreed hall is a very good winger and deserves his england shirt.
Perhaps the poster meant that he hasn't developed much in the last few years? he started as a very good winger and remains a very good winger but isnt a great winger yet.

| Interesting looking at the State of Origin teams today, the wingers were Darius Boyd, Jhara Yow Yeh, Jarryd Hayne and Akuila Uate none of which are monsters, I wonder if we are seeing a move away from the massive wingers of the past decade or so. Could be good news for Foster et al

| I wouldnt like to stop any of them
Jarryd Hayne doesn't look that big on telly but stand next to him and he's very, very broad. Sorta like a bigger Ryan Atkins with bagloads more skill

Can they do round the ball try finishes with a quarter of an inch room in the corner? No. THey're all pants. The outside backs in Australia are so weak that NSW has to call wingers up from Fiji.

| There's more to a winger than scoring a try saddened. His work rate is patheitc. That try you mentioned was an excelelnt finish. But give him the ball on the half way line, could he come up with the goods? No.

| Quote ="Mr. Zucchini Head"Define finishing ability. Any winger worth his salt can run in tries from ten yards out when his centre has put him in the clear. Admitedly I dont watch him every week but aside from the try when he caught the ball behind him iv never seen him score and thought, "how has he done that?" I dont really judge a winger by how many he scores. More how he scores them, because in a good attacking team even an avarage winger will score alot of tries.'"
Think you've missed my point there. I was saying that it doesn't matter who we pick to play on the wings for England because our coach doesn't want to play an expansive game so it will be rare that the wingers will get the ball in attacking positions

| Foster has always looked too slow for a winger. Maybe centre will be his position long-term.
I like Hall a lot for Leeds - he's a good finisher and reasonable in defence - but he doesn't have that real edge that you'd expect from a great winger. At the moment however he's at least solid enough to not get overrun at international level, and he'll have to do until (sadly I should probably say 'if') we do find a genuine star.

I thought along those lines, but when we played Crusaders t'other week, Sammut made a break and Foster absolutely tore strips off him to chase him down easily. I think that display of pace suprised a few people.

And Hall would be fine at international level if we had a real quality centre inside him to create the chances that he'd inevitably finish.
It's the centres that we're still really lacking and are behind in.

| We have a real lack of quality outside backs in this country. I can't understand why the Huddersfield backs aren't given a chance. McGilvray, Cudjoe and Lawrence all look very good to me, big, quick and solid in defense. Get them into the England team. Ryan Hall is rubbish, absolute pants. He flops over the line for 95% of his tries, he's no better than Ade Gardner.

| In the game last night, the Wigan defenders absolutely dominated Foster each time he touched the ball – particularly when he was bringing it back from his own half or from dummy half (this was also before he received his head knock). Despite being a good SL with some good skills, Foster doesn’t have the size and strength to play internationally

He struggles physically at club level, never mind International. I'm yet to see him beat a man for pace from 30 or 40m out. Makinson on the other hand, I think the future's brighter for him IMO.

As well of having bagloads of skill over Foster, Hayne also has 3 stone on him. He would murder him if they were lined up against one another.
In fact I'd bet all the wingers mentioned would be above 15 stone. Don't get me wrong Foster is a good player, but can you see him defending against that lot? I can't.

I agree - Foster is too small but the Briscoe's, Hall's and McGilvary's can compete
