1. No one would turn down 500k,so don't be silly.
2. You HAVE NOT read any of the statement i was alluding to. I did say on 25th July.......Not Sunday's statement.
It's here.
Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont has issued the following statement:
It was with a heavy heart and tear in my eye that the realisation sunk in that we would not make the Qualifiers. I have said publicly on numerous occasions and privately to the group that my position as owner of the Club would become untenable should that happen.
The Club will receive circa £200k in 2019 from £1.25m this year and circa £1.7m in 2017 and that is a drop too far to sustain the Club in its current form. To that end I must act in the best interests of the Club’s ability to survive going forward and in the short term to fulfil this season’s fixtures and also to reduce its commitments to make it more attractive to any party that may express an interest in taking it forward.
This week is deadline week and therefore an ideal opportunity for players to be able to secure their futures elsewhere and at the same time reduce the Club’s obligations. I can confirm there will be a large number of exits and that may bring some opportunities for others but that will be ongoing this week right up until deadline.
I am committed to ensuring the Club reaches the end of the season and hope during that time a new investor or group of investors can be attracted to take the Club forward. I will be making a more detailed statement at the beginning of next week and until then will not be in a position to comment further. [uI apologise to our loyal fans and sponsors for this failing which ultimately has to rest with me.[/u
Or here.

so? His latest statement blames players who won't leave, the stadium owner, Rimmer, the dog eating his homework......he is to blame because it was his job to plan for all eventualities.
He's a salesman. He knows counting cash before it's banked is often fatal.......in this case I hope it isn't, but he deserves no sympathy and never to be allowed near a RL side again!

| So Leigh aren't going to take super league by storm anymore like they promised they would?
Well at least this should get rid of the obnoxious fans they seem to have attracted in the last 3 or 4 years and leave them with the nice, knowledgeable rugby league fans that were there before.

Yes,but i never alluded to that 2nd statement,On that 2nd statement you're right. DB had to spend that money (£1.2m)on players,he did that, and it went wrong with poor management/decisions.There are a lot of bitter Leythers atm believe you me.So yes,the failing rest with DB.

Licensing was never a measure to prevent poor management.
Widnes are probably the example of where licencing did work. They established structures necessary to sustain them in SL.

Spot on, yet it’s one of the key reasons why people think it should come back to prevent/reduce the risk of owners/chairmen messing things up.
So we’ll end up changing the structure again because some owners can’t be trusted yet at the same time these are the same guys trying to lead a breakaway with talk of better tv and sponsorship deals.

| As I said much earlier in the thread it doesn't matter what structure SL has or what fanciful plans you might have for checking an owners credentials, if a clubs owner is the main financier (the majority of clubs have this issue) and they choose not to continue, the club faces financial ruin.
People may be critical to the Leigh owner, but its his money he's put in and it is completely up to him if he decides for whatever reason that he is going to walk away.
But for the grace of (the rugby league) god, there go most teams.

then the goal posts got moved and they have just been trying to survive, if they did not have relegation threatening them they could have built a side to challenge rather than finishing bottom most years. really believe if we stuck to franchising and made the hard decisions, we would be seeing the fruits of it over last couple of years, instead the game is spiraling downwards.

How come Cas have been able to become a top 4 team in this time and Wakey have gone from MPG to three top 8 finishes.
If we stuck with franchising they’d still be a club struggling at the bottom of the table, it might still be Widnes or another club and you could use the structure to blame it on.

| Someone always has to come bottom of the pile. Unless you create a situation where the bottom teams are given some sort of advantage, it's always going to be difficult to get away from the bottom as well. Franchising probably makes it harder to improve if you're at the bottom of the pile. Yep, you can build without the fear of relegation, and hope that you can maybe make 8th or 9th rather than 11th or 12th.
Australia and the US both give advantages to the teams finishing towards the bottom of their leagues, and unless this happens with RL in the UK, then franchising (with or without regional teams) will never work.

As apposed to your R&r system that has failed to make the game top dog in its own back yard and failing miserably. No wonder the game is dying on its with fans like you. And it probably deserves to die. But at least you can have your traditional heartlands game for northern flat cap

That's a wrong perception mate. It's not that we hate the north, we don't, we just want to see clubs make a decent effort in promoting and expanding the sport in their own catchment area but most have failed to do this in 123 years.
I'm all for seeing RL thrive in the Manchester metro region and hope that MCR Rangers will get up the ladder a notch or two and the heritage clubs like Oldham, Leigh etc strengthen in all areas.

As a suvverner I look at wakey and Castleford trying to build a pair of white elephants a "nine iron" apart and shake my head..... It's all well and good resisting a merger but christ on a bike at least share 1 new stadium..... Or is the Calder awash with investors throwing cash at clubs with fewer than 4k Gates?

| He's an attention seeker is Dez - how many tear in his eye rambling statements is he going to make, deflecting blame for Leigh's woes onto anyone but himself?
There are some issues with the structure - but no one forced him to bet everything on trying to buy instant success; that one is entirely on him.

In a couple of his lengthy statements, he has accepted blame, (if you search hard enough!) especially in defence of Keiron Cunningham. However, you are right, it is entirely the blame of Leigh club, that they are now in this situation. We didn't hear anyone at Leigh moaning about the structure, when we used it to gain promotion, or when we were gifted an extra £500k by the SL clubs, as a golden opportunity to try to get back into SL. We simply employed the wrong group of players, who only learned what the Championship was about, when it was too late to overhaul five sides who were better prepared for it. We are where we are, because of what we did wrong.

Both are being built by different developers with different reasons for throwing a FREE stadium into their plan so the answer to your question actually is yes. If those 2 clubs really were going to share a stadium it would have to be somewhere slap bang between them and neither the 2 clubs have the combined resources nor are there 'investors' around to fund that.

Has either developer broken ground yet? I ask because back in 2008 when licenses were handed out both clubs seemed very sure they'd be built inside 18 months.....
