Like she said on the video though “see how Sam’s gone quiet now he knows I’m filming” which suggests he was just as bad before.

| Quote ="nottinghamtiger"To me, this is the issue in terms of severity.
At 00:11 Joel moves around the front of the bar. The woman behind the bar tells him not to come round, and holds out her hand in a defensive manner. He continues to enter the bar area and at 00:12 clearly and deliberately walks into the woman saying “I will” and grabs her left arm with his right hand.
What happens afterwards is bad but to me, this physical contact is completely unacceptable.'"
This is what I see too which is totally unacceptable and intimidatory behaviour from a 6’2” 16st man towards a woman. Very very poor from the bloke.

It's not. I stand by that.
The fact that pretty much everyone (with some intelligence at least) on this thread is pointing to the part where he goes behind the bar and grabs her as the worst part tells me they agree.
The fact that gobbing off to a ref has a different sentence to putting your hands on him.
The fact that players can wind each other up all game but the second they put hands on each other that's when it's stopped.
Come on. You're either trying to intentionally twist words, not very good at comprehending, or just not very bright. Verbal abuse is not good or acceptable. But physical abuse is far worse.

Have a read of the Wigan board. Even they aren’t defending them, I have no idea why you are. It’s absolutely disgusting behaviour from two people who are supposed to be professionals.

| I always say, why do rugby league fans defend these sort of actions of rugby league players? Show me a video of Mo Farah, Adam Peaty, Anthony Joshua, David Silva, Andy Murray acting like this (or even in a pub full stop) and I’d be less inclined to shake my head when people do it. But 123 years after our sport supposedly became professional, we still have a huge amount of idiots in the game acting unprofessionally.
Professional athletes in a pub during the season?! That’s laughable. I watched a video of David Silva eating a Manchester Tart once and he only had a bite and said “I shouldn’t have more than that, it’s bad for your body and I have training tomorrow.. but it’s very tasty, thank you” (although admittedly there are still numerous idiots in football as well!)
Yet you get rugby league players inebriated during the season all the time- smoking too. What’s going on?! It’s not 1992 anymore. Letting your hair down and getting ed on your days off went out of fashion decades ago in other sports. Anyone reckons Roger Federer has got back to world number 1 in tennis at 36 by getting faced down his local on his days off?
A lad I know was telling a few lads that he was made to go on a drinking awareness course (he was suspended from work for a drinking misdemeanour!) and they said that after a good drinking session you can still be unfit to drive for up to four days after the drinking session. What does that say about lads who go into training the day after the hangover day in rugby? Or if they put a load of alcohol into their bodies the night after a game. Their bodies must be put under some poor conditions and performances must suffer in training and game day.

I’ve said they’ve behaved unacceptably here but the bar staff escalate the situation and deal with it poorly. The couple who came over shouting get out didn’t help either. If you shout at someone who is drunk the chances are they aren’t going to take it very well. Sam and Joel should have left earlier however.

In the case of the Tomkins video, I'd agree with you.
But in general, I wouldn't. Verbal bullying can often lead to self harming or even suicide.

Your an idiot. If you think that this is not a problem then I do hope you don’t have a wife/girlfriend or daughters.
The bar staff do not escalate the situation in the slightest. They actually do their best to do the opposite. In fact it appears that in sams case starting to film it helps calm his behaviour. They can be heard to ask very politely on numerous occasions “please leave”. They are collecting evidence to protect themselves!!!!
I’ve been in a similar situation and it’s bloomin scary- these are two young girls - how could they do anything else to protect themselves against two professional athletes?
You have no idea whether a previous physical or sexual assault has been made prior to filming.
You have no idea whether a call to the police was actually made- Have you any idea how long it would take the police to attend a call like this????? it can take hours for someone to turn up!!!

| A perfunctory statement from Wigan today. Why is it that the club is only "disappointed" now, after the video emerged last night, and not when they were informed about their actions by the pub manager weeks ago?
They've ultimately dealt with the two idiots involved, but it's disappointing that they've been shamed into doing so.

Apart from invading the space of a female whilst drunk knowing full well you are not allowed behind the bar at a pub.
Joel took it too far, hopefully he will learn from this and make amends at least to the poor lass.

This is pretty much my opinion. Professional athletes should not be out drinking. Fans will always defend players saying they should be allowed to have a good time etc etc.
I think Joel tomkins will be let go. His form hasn't been great and now this incident has definitely killed his Wigan career
