| Quote ="Mike1970"Oh, you never know, some Americans may just have heard of other places. Take Hull for instance. Some may just have heard of William Wilberforce given that he decided to start the movement for the abolition of slavery. Or J Arthur Rank. I think he may have started a little film company over there.'"
Given that most UK residents would be unaware of who Wilberforce was, I find it highly unlikely that any Americans would know him. As for Slavery, they didn't abolish it in the USA for nigh on 35 years after the British did.
The Rank organisation was a uniquely British institution which owned British Film companies and British Cinemas and therefore is unlikely to resonate with our America cousins.....even the older ones who would have referred to Rank Xerox before it became just Xerox.
Given 70% of Americans do not have a passport and of the 30% that do,50% of them are in the Military, it is highly likely that other than London, most of the UK could well be Mordor to them.

| Half these teams will be in Canada - a country with very strong ties with the UK and a very well travelled populace.
US citizens might be less well travelled, but there are literally hundreds of millions of them - we only need a tiny fraction to get involved.

| Quote ="knockersbumpMKII"I wonder if Dave Woods is going to eat his words now, not so long ago he was doubting that Toronto would even happen, his churlishness toward EP and after the interview basically throwing extreme doubt on it from all aspects (fans/sponsorship etc) shows you what a muppet the blovke is.
More RL teams wherever they are from is only good for RL, teams/towns that are bricking it and/or are critical know that they are under threat because they simply don't add enough to keep the sport going in the right direction if we stick to being an insular sport as so many would like us to be. and that would eventually be the death knell, not tomorrow, not even in 20 years but sticking to what we have is dragging us backwards at a rate of knots.
What EP has done and what others would like to do hopefully will pull the rug from under some including the robbers at red hall.'"
What a great post. Woods tweeted earlier this year that RL is in a good place! Blokes completely clueless.

great news indeed, and lets hope that in thirty years time they will be able to field homegrown players ,rather than rely on the lads from lowly, witless, frantic and hopeless backwaters.but i very much doubt any of them will still be here in ten years.

Well, they've fielded a homegrown player already in their inaugural season, so they've started well. I believe their aim is to have an academy set up, with help from the CRL, within 3 years.

Dude you do realise that them English sides can exist with the north American sides. Doesn't have to be one or the other.

| Fantastic news from New York. Perez should be made chairman of the RFL. Hes shown more vision than the likes of Wakefield and Huddersfield combined who have both been in existence for a hundred years longer.

| Can someone please explain how more North American teams will A) solve the problems particularly towards the amateur level regarding lack of teams B) how it is fair for supporters to pay for TWO trips to America plus potentially two trips to France then fork out money for internationals, cup finals etc.

A) It wont, and it has never ever been said that North American sides would improve participation in the UK. That responsibility falls at the RFL's door.
B) Supporters don't have some devine right to attend every single away game, they can pick & choose where to spend their money. Following your side isn't & shouldn't be an obligation, but a choice. Why does this stupid away fan argument gets spouted on every single thread when expansion is mentioned?

And at the doors of the clubs - some of the community marketing and engagement I've seen from some clubs is pitiful.
If we can tap into some north American talent and find some quality athletes to come into our league, that can raise standards.
And if we can also tap into the NA media markets, maybe we can generate enough TV and commercial revenue to actually make the sport financially attractive to players.

Because one would like to follow their team, but can't afford to do so.
