Your average attendance doesnt seem that different to last seasons. This even accounts for larger away followings. I would have thought the Leigh fans would be out on full force for your first season back.

If Leigh stay up I can see them slowly climbing up the table and getting themselves into the Top 8 (of the system is still the same by then).

Catalans on the other if they stay up I can just see more of the same from this year over the next 2/3 years.

The Leigh owner is ambitious whereas the Catalans club has gotten lazy and I'm not sure we'll see significant change if they manage to dodge this bullet and we don't need this CURRENT version of Catalans.

I am not saying which team I want to stay up I do not care but am I right in saying this is the second time Leigh have been in super league and they were rubbish then and went straight down so if they do its their own fault no body else's

Of course, potential has to be realised and with the greatest respect, we really need to be aspiring to have a situation where games in our premier competition are being watched by more than 5,500. What Leigh has experienced is good YOY growth on last year, but given the change in circumstances, the acid test is in year two and three. What do you honestly see as a realistic average to aspire to for Leigh?

We really need to be looking at adding 2,3,4 and even 5 thousand to those figures in the near future if we are to realise the sort of growth that the sport needs to address the challenges we have, and I'm sure you can accept that on that front, Catalans offers a better opportunity to do that than Leigh? I don't think Leigh has that market and I don't think that's a statement to be offended by.

I'm very sceptical that we will reach those sort of averages as the game is currently structured, but that in my view is down to poor marketing at club level - an issue that I don't see changing and that is ultimately what makes me a pro-expansionist. I simply don't think that the clubs at the lower end of Super League are capable of engaging those new audiences that we need.

I maintain that its very disappointing that Leigh doesn't run an academy already - many clubs below them do and it really should be a pre-requisite of SL entry.

I would be more than happy to see a return to some model of licencing where one of the standards imposed on clubs, amongst others, to be ticket revenue growth.

If you want to interpret that as "closed shop", you're free to do so. I'd prefer to see it as trying to find a make-up of clubs that can actually help the sport achieve what it should be achieving - developing and attracting the best possible talent, improving standards and facilities, stopping us from becoming a feeder competition for the NRL and RU, and putting on the most entertaining product possible for both spectators and broadcasters.

Once we actually have clubs who can all make a contribution to the sport's primary league, rather than riding on the coat tails of a handful of others, then I'd be more than happy to see P&R in some form - but we're a long way from that.

But Leigh are hardly in a position to throw stones in the direction of that particular greenhouse, given that the club has historically voted against automatic P&R from the Conference into what is now League 1.

Look, the sport has been in demise for some time with Catalans in SL. I will reiterate, that Leigh haven't been given time to establish themselves in the top flight. It's unfair to say they bring nothing when they haven't been given a proper chance to prove it. Where did I say it was? I said I wanted the sport to grow. It's pretty clear that I'm frustrated that it isn't. My argument is that between the two options that I think will deliver that, Catalans are the one I would pick. Seriously, it's not hard.

We tried licencing for six years - six. In that time, there were no KPIs based on revenue growth. I maintain that a properly implemented licencing system, in the current RL climate, is the best approach.

Not sure there was a specific thread but distinctly remember the vast majority (even FC fans!) on here wanting KR to win the MPG last year!

Average gates between 7-8k supporters.
An extended reach of the league.
A European television contract.
Additional TV coverage in the UK that didn't exist before their TV contract.
A portfolio of sponsors that, over their life, has included Nike and subsidaries of Renault and Air France-KLM.
A significantly redeveloped stadium.
A highly rated academy.
An extension of the European talent pool.
And yeah, and I'll say it, a nice jolly.

What more would you like them to bring other than.....drumroll..... "away fans"?

Do you think an academy to Leigh is new a concept? Until the rules are adjusted to cater for academies v club set up's,I dont see the benefit in having one at present.

I actually thought our season average over regular rounds was just over 6,000 with a high of 9,012 v Saints *who were the best/biggest supported away Club at LSV.
If so this gives us an average a little less than Wakey (who have just had a fantastic season) possibly more than Huddersfield & quite a bit more than both Widnes & obviously Salford, not bad for a 1st season back & in the bottom 4 ?

I can only guess that it would be feasible to grow that average by as much as 1500 - 2000 given a modicum of success, i.e top 8 & half decent CC run, would be nice if some supposedly well supported Clubs could bring a strong away following too *Wigan*.
