Some awful officiating tonight. Cobb deserves to have his professional career ended for a decision that bad. But Thaler's performance was far below the standard needed for a semi.

At one point, on 58 minutes, the young wire lad hadn't noticed it was last tackle. Thaler began shouting at him, that it was last tackle, like a coach trying to prevent an error, rather than an impartial referee. Truly bizarre behaviour at times.

Cunningham was marvellously restrained in that interview. He's grown into the role.

Thaler didn't have a good game for me. Gave Warrington everything, knock ons, foul play, let young Morgan Smith off with lifting a players legs and gave offside against Luke Walsh for collecting a kick at he put up. Saints didn't get a crum off of him and to not check Lineham's try when the grounding looked iffy on first view but went back to see if Lomax knocked on before the ball was drilled into touched for a scrum. Very one sided ref performance throughout.

I agree, any vitriol should be aimed squarely at Cobb in the VR box. Also the old dear running the right touch who Thaler asked "is it ok" ? I have seen him on numerous occasions just panic, he is like a rabbit in the headlamps & he didn't help his ref one jot there.

Re Walsh offside. If the players are in front of the kicker then they have to remain 10m away from the player catching it or the bounce of the ball. There were a good few saints players within that 10m.

You can ground a try with the torso.

Very harsh for Peyroux's try, but by the letter of the law there was no conclusive shot of the ball being grounded.

Saints not penalised once for have players in front of the ref in the defensive line, time and time again.

Wrong, the law doesn't say anything about the bounce of the ball, only about a player catching it.



I remember at least one occasion they were penalised for offside.

on linehams try, you can ground a loose ball with a torso, a ball dropped must be regathered before its touched down.

Saying that though, i havent seen enough from the replays we saw to say he definitely lost the ball before it was grounded.

There was one penalty for them having 3 markers/offside. None given for offside line defence.

No, only if a Warrington player was going to catch which clearly none of them were. Thaler just blew without thinking and forgot Walsh was the guy who kicked it.

What about Wilkin constantly joining a completed 2 player tackle as the players are about to move away. He was the top tacker tonight on 59 I think it was- amazing stuff!

I've argued before that this is an area of the rules that needs clearing up because had a Warrington player knocked it on, there wouldnt have been an argument that it was offside. Its a silly part of the law that sees a player attempt and fail rewarded, But by not risking that knock-on they are (or should have been) punished.

The problem is with this is that in theory you could send 4 players 50 yards forward in different places, kick the ball into a space where an opposing player won't get near it and near one of your 4 players to retrieve the ball and score a try?

59 tackles, of which, 35 were flops and 20 were when he wasn't square at marker yet he was penalised for about three of them!

Had the ref policed the ruck correctly we'd have had about 36 points tonight through more dangerous field positions and nobody would really be talking about these decisions - their illegal spoiling tactics nearly won them a GF place when they shouldn't have even been in the game

Well he certainly didn't police the defensive line correctly; lost count the amount of times Saints were offisde yet strangely they only got pinged for it once or twice at a push......

It's was once, and that wasn't for a breach of the 10m!
