the empty seats appeared to be in 2 big chunks, which makes me think they were either not sold due to an error, or bought by a re-seller/ticket tout and not sold on, or a coach trip that didn't make it to the ground etc prime seats near the half-way line don't just lie empty for a game in demand like that.

| We watched the PNG-France game in a pub in Warrington and had 4 French blokes sat behind us who left at half time to walk to the HJ!

13,965 quoted on the official site and Sporinglife.com....although SKY NZ commentary team mentioned the 14k figure too.

Average attendance so far 16,625,ahead of 2008's first 4 games average by about 10%.
I said 360k would be the total attendance and I stand by that, given attendance/availability is tracking at about 66%. The remaining England games through to and including Wembley could well all sell out in the next few days....monthly pay-day is coming for some and the standard of games so far has been brilliant.
I've watched the Kiwi v Samoa game 3 times already.......I'd be surprised if Samoa aren't playing Fiji at the HJ in the 4th Quarter Final in a few weeks time.....they should murder France and PNG based on that performance and the earlier game.

| 8,872 announced for tonight's game bringing the total number of fans who have attended games at this RLWC to 75,370.
There still seems some confusion as to the gate at Warrington, but the RLWC official site has that at 13,965, so that's the figure I have used.
2008 first 5 games delivered 72,176, a tad over 4% ahead of that.

| Right try and keep averages out of this one too. This is more about total figures for games.
If people want to talk averages you have your very own thread to get all semantic in.

2008 first 6 games delivered 83,545, so tracking pretty much the same as last time.

even so far, but we'll get more in the final and the semi this time, i'm pretty confident we'll smash 2008's total!
although i'm sure many on here will produce a dossier of stats and mitigating factors which show it has done far worse

Generally, Sporting Life's attendance is published by all other sites as they use the Press Association for content I believe.
So once one site gets it wrong, the rest do - it's happened with SL games.
See Chris Terris Taylor's tweet from Warrington Guardian:
Chris Terris Taylor @Cterristaylor 27 Oct
@ollielloyd There’s been some confusion, press were given figure of 13,965 but it was announced as 14,965. 2nd one prob right

| The same thing happened at Saints towards the end of the season. The announcer said one figure the screen showed another. It took a few days to sort out the correct attendance.
These things happen.

| Another good crowd tonight.
It will be interesting what the crowd is tomorrow at Bristol.
I think ticket sales have risen as the tournament has gone on, and will continue to do so. I myself have ordered tickets for an extra three games on the back of the two I've watched live and tonight's game.
As we know Huddersfield is sold out, I wonder how many will go to Australia v Fiji, I'm hoping it will be similar to the NZ v Samoa game.
Good crowds can be expected at the games in Wrexham, Workington, Leigh, Headingley, KC and the Shay I reckon. I'm pretty sure all the games in France will sell well too.

The first game at Headingley seems to be selling quite well - Paddock appears to be sold out, S Stand has only around 1,500 tickets left, Carnegie Terrace under 1,000 left. I'd estimate they've sold at least 11,000 for that with a week and a half to go.

| Will be going to the aus v Fiji game and also at 3 and 4, sco v USA and ton v cook, am presently surprised by the number of people at the games.
I think a few tickets are corporate though was at Fiji v ire last night and the full row behind me where work colleague who had never been to a rl game before they gat tickets from work. If it get the 10 or so people interested in the game then more the merrier.

| Due to the sheer quality of these games I think we'll just see crowds go up and up. The quarter finals were always going to be the big gain after we'd started and I think they will be. There was a report today that 8,000 have gone at Wigan and I'm confident that will be a sell out so there's another 16-17,000 to be added on to any overall figure. After that I'd expect a full house at Wire for that quarter and one at Wrexham, if it is Wales playing in the game. The Headingley crowd should be a big one as well.
That all before we even get on to the extra sales that will still take place at Wembley. If they market that correctly as we get closer to the event I genuinely think we could get above 80k.

BBC must be kicking themselves that they chose to ignore the majority of this tournament.

I think the ticket deal where you get the PNG v NZ game for £15 and then the quarter final the following Friday for half price (likely NZ v Italy/Tonga) is really good and it would be great to have a huge crowd at Headingley.

Agree.
Considering the close contests and surprisingly good level of footy being played both the RLIF and potentially even the BBC would be disappointed about not taking more games.

| I hope everyone gets to Wembley and Old Trafford and England reach the semis at least. If we can sell out those two venues and the 3 matches are top quality then the tournament will finish on a high and that's what the wider public will remember.
I am a bit concerned that England seem tp believe that getting to the quarters / semis should be a formality. I'm not convinced they'll reach the semis.

by my estimates we will be playing France in the QF - which *should* be more a more than easy route of getting to the semi's.
Even by some chance we do manage to finish 3rd in the group, we will be playing Samoa in the QF, which despite their exciting performance the other night should be seen as very winnable.
