| Quote ="JonB95"Has it never once crossed your mind that when Salford couldn't sell or promote a single season ticket until ONE WEEK before the season started due to a deep financial crisis attendances were likely to be down? The season is a write-off for Salford, and the marketing team and Koukash are fully aware of that.'"
It was actually one DAY before the season started and, unlike previous seasons, there was no direct debit option.
Jeez, there are some bile-filled wits on here!
EDIT: Iain was right the season tickets only actually went on sale AFTER the first game.

| Quote ="LoyalFan"I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. I'm enjoying the trolling, and loving the fact that there are fans on here that are clearly getting their digs in while they can, as the potential at Salford is huge... as is the jealousy. We could be on the verge of something big and there are fans who clearly can't bear the thought of seeing a good Salford side competing in SL.
I never even expected a win this season, so each time we get one... it feels great... I don't care how many people come to watch it... I was there and I enjoyed it... as did my family.
Yes it was played by the two poorest teams in the competition... but I'll tell you what... give me that Salford - Cas game above any game of Union I've ever seen... and that sport pulls in thousands.
This sport is not put down by the lack of people attending a game... it's put down by the so called fans who claim to support it... but get no bigger joy that bad mouthing it.'"

Owch! Just makes it even harder for the marketers. Next season can't come quickly enough for them now I guess.

| Why was Phil Veivers fired by the Good Dr K? He was fired 4 rounds into the season that many are now saying has already been written off.......make your minds up guys. Either CashCow wants immediate response to his funding or he doesn't.
By the way, are you suggestion that all those that would have bought a ST earlier have now spent that cash elsewhere? Fans are fans......they turn up to watch their team regardless of league position or potential results going against them....and it would seem that Salford have managed to lose a fair few, despite Dr CashCow promising the moon and stars.

| The danger for Dr Kalashnikov is that former fans get into the habit of not attending. Added to the history of false dawns and a stadium that's not on your doorstep anymore all adds up to a risky presumption that they're all going to come flooding back - all 5,000 of them. Then he's got to add another 5,000 to make it all viable.
It's not impossible but rather a project for a patient man.

Salford need Dr CashCow to be happy to plough 2 or 3 million in for 10 years or to find 7-8k gates in a hurry if this new dawn is to be the real deal....30,000,000 investe over 10 years...he'd better see some form of ROI.......

Season tickets went on sale a week after the first game the only people who got theirs earlier were people who bought the five year season ticket in the last year at the willows, and I think that was only a couple of days before the season, the general public season tickets went on sale the week after the Wigan game as I has to pay on the gate v Wigan and then wait until a new direct debit finance application was sorted out by the club which took about 4 weeks. Other fans just haven't bothered getting season tickets this year and tbh can't blame them after all the rubbish they've been through at the start if this year.

| No point in Salford pushing the boat out on the marketing front until the team improves.
last nights game was like watching an under 8's fixture with both sets of players running after the ball like a flies chasing poop, every pass a 'Hollywood' pass and no interest at all in defence.
Noble will sort this out though I'm sure, and combined with a big name arrival or two for next season...will get crowds boosted quite quickly.

Completely true, what have they got to market at present? A shocking team that is second from bottom, you can't polish a turd. Now if they sign or produce a big player or become competitive and challenge the big teams they have a basis on which to entice the public to watch them.

To someone who hasn't seen the game before, the Salford match would have been a great one to have as an introduction because it had all the qualities of a highly entertaining game: running rugby, tries, end to end play, the lead changing hands and a tense final quarter with an extra tense finish. A noob would have no clue as to the rules or what 'good defence' should look like. I would imagine any noobs to rugby watching the Salford match would have been instantly converted to the sport.

| Maybe. But I can imagine equally imagine the backbone of the game's support flicking their TV off in droves rather than watch a game with little intensity and hardly any effort at defending at all.
I'm not one to slag the game off. I love this sport and watch as much of it as I can. But that was a terrible game, and whilst the result was in doubt until the end the fairest result would have been for both teams to lose.

| Right now in football's Premiership the bottom 2 are playing....both still have a slim chance of survival. Reading the text commentary on BBC website though the words 'woeful' 'dreadful' and 'like watching paint dry' have been used to describe it.
Salford vs Cas was a contest between two bottom of the table teams......what did people actually expect??.......Let me guess, back in the day when the bottom 2 clashed it was like watching Australia vs New Zealand.
And what's funny is that if these 2 teams were in the Championship or some SL2 you would have people complaining if Sky didn't have no interest in showing a potential top of the table clash.

| I prefer a 10-8 game over a 34-30 any day. There were plenty of mistakes last night from both sides. I just don't see where your 'lack of effort' angle is coming from.

Not saying it was the best game ever and Salford and Cas' defending was shambolic (not helped by lack of stability at both clubs at present) but if you think there was a lack of effort you obviously didn't see Salford defend those sets on their own line at the end. It wasn't lack of effort, just lack of structure.

| However people argue the point, for any newbie flicking through & witnessing such a sp attendance would be like me coming across a non-league football game.
If they happened to get past the semi-professional looking theatre, the game would have been entertaining, probably like me watching a six-all goal fest in some obscure sub-division.
To the purists, that game was awful, the refereeing was awful & the attendance was abysmal for a game in the “so called” Super League.
I appreciate it was the bottom two teams, but for people to say “what do you expect” well, I expect just a tad more effort, but to be fair to the players – what’s the point?
For a start, the domestic season is over for both of them & it’s only April!
One team is going to be dissected in the next few months, no matter how much effort they put in & the other lot doesn’t know how the future will pan out, only their “go to” man is being jettisoned to reduce the wages bill.
However, the greatest irony is – No worries lads, at least you won’t suffer the ignominy of relegation, a spur if ever there was one to give that extra five percent.
Good luck to Salford they deserve a bit of good fortune, however, if the Doc thinks everything will be rosie in a couple of years, he’d better think again, lets hope he’s a philanthropic as Mr Hughes.

I know its a complicated concept to grasp, but the 'crowd watchers' like Rugby League too. Its just that they have this bit of insight - something noticeably bad is happening to attendances this year, and it threatens to diminish the sport. And no, it doesn't threaten the *existence* of the game, it doesn't mean the world will end, but it's not good. If you care about the game its not in the slightest bit unnatural to express concern and alarm at *some* of the attendances this year. If you just enjoy Rubgy League, great, you don't have the slightest thing to worry about, because even if the overpaid clowns at the RFL remain in charge for years, you'll still have amateur games to watch.
