When's Ray French going to call it a day? The French and Davies combo, they're like a Granddad/Grandson combo. Gives me real earache.

I can't see what the fuss is about - a minor delay, no rugby was missed and an army of golf fans weren't left up in arms; good bit of juggling by the BBC.

That good work didn't continue in the commentary though - French and Davies are woeful and neither of them sounded like they had much of a clue what was going on, other than French constantly reminding us that one player or another is a 'powerful lad.'

I do like Clare Balding though - her jolly hockeysticks enthusiasm for the game is very infectious.

Lets turn this around...

The rugby is on before the Golf and overuns by going to extra time.... I'm pretty certain they would delay the start of the golf coverage.

No rugby was missed. Some people just moan for the sake of it.

Any game that takes five days to complete and has breaks so that the participants can have "lunch & tea" could never be classed as sport.

It's a i[is[/ied version of cricket, ergo not sport.

You may as well include: darts, ballroom dancing, snooker, poker & floodlit dominoes then, given your interpretation

I'm enjoying people rising to Coddy's bait on the definition of a sport. I used to wind the kids up with my definition of a sport, which was even stricter (if there was no ball involved it wasn't a sport!), and basically boiled down to rugby league and possibly football.

French and Davies were hilarious yesterday.

Let me clarify what I mean here - I am referring to the style of commentary, slower, well spaced out with pauses for breath and action. Yes the content from French and davies is poor, but compared to what has now become constant chattering from the Sky team with no pause for letting the game just proceed - its really doing my head in.

Now come on, we all know Wendyball is definately not a real sport

At the time I was thinking my lad who turns two next week could do a better job and come across more articulate then French or Davies. But after reading it, it reads more of a sports commentators sitcom than an actual (fairly) accurate of what was commentated during a live broadcast.

Don't be silly. A 60 minute game that often takes four hours to complete, where each side has three different teams that take the field at any given moment, with players who wear more protective clothing than a soldier on active service, where games are stopped because someone may fancy a fag and a "touchdown" is scored by not doing anything of the sort.

I couldn't agree more! For all the faults of Davies and French the commentary from the BBC is miles better than Sky. You can watch the game without loads of distractions. Too many egos on Sky loving the sound of their own voice. Just wish there were more games on the BBC though.
