The difference is that Eddie and Stevo earn most of their criticism by what they say and do. They are dreadful journalists. Tanya Arnold on the other hand is an excellent journalist who is being lampooned here, purely on the basis of her sex.

Its curious really how so much of humanity seems to delight in picking up on anything "different" about an individual, and then ridiculing them or worse, is it not? In Tanya's case, it looks like its her deep voice; in other cases it can be race, colour, sexual orientation, disability or even actually enjoying rugby union. And we all know where some of that leads. I guess its not even one step removed from the animal kingdom, when any specimen falling outside the understood norms gets mocked and ostracised, or worse. Just a shame we as a species do not seem to have progressed as far from the rest of the animals as we might like to think?

As for Tanya, IMO she's a very competant, knowledgeable, articulate and pleasant presenter who seems ideal for the job. Would have been surprised had the BBC found any better or more capable candidate, to be honest. And - IMO at least hence the link I posted earlier, although clearly not all agree - with the added bonus that she is very considerably better indeed to look at than Harry Gration.

She is a very good presenter and she is attractive.

With Tanya Arnold, Robbie Paul, Clare Balding, Dave Woods, Mark Chapman and George Riley, the BBC have a strong RL roster. They're light years on from the days of the up n under commentary of yore.

There have been some slightly Richard Keys-esque comments in this thread but equally, some massive over reactions.

Ms Arnold is a young woman working in a male-dominated industry, covering a male-dominated sport and doing quite nicely thank you; I'm sure that as a result, she's developed a reasonably thick skin and a robust sense of humour and so is perfectly able to handle quips about her husky voice. The other stuff about her relative attractiveness or otherwise appears par for the course for women in the media and whilst not especially edifying, is hardly a cause for hysteria.

There seems to be cottage industry in this country of people who become offended on other peoples behalf - I'm not sure it's very helpful.

That's an absolutely gash comment, unhelpful to whom, the tools who think it's big & clever (in a schoolboy kind of way I guess) to pass such comments knowing there won't be anything/anybody to say anything back to them? It's not only sticking up for another human being who should not have to be defending themselves in the first place from unwarranted nasty 'banter'

To me the comments made are unacceptable, if a bloke in the street said something in a similar vein to a member of my family or a friend whilst I was with them I'd address them and ask why they felt the need to make such comment. That it is someone I don't happen to know really doesn't make much difference, the comments are still unwarranted.
Not only that but from your own comment it seems to be the wrong thing to do to stick up for people in this type of situation or is that you're not prepared to stick up for your friends or even a complete stranger if they are being bullied?

I'm not trying to edify the waifs & strays on this board who continue with their 'working mens club' narrow minded so called humour however one should not think it too much for people to show a little ing respect when you would want the same for your own in the same situation.
