| 14 is probably about right for now. It may be a little too big at the moment but it gives the space franchising was supposed to give clubs in the position Salford, Quins, Crusaders, Hull KR, Cas/Wakefield/Widnes need to grow.
Without a massive investment somewhere we seem miles away from being able to expand though.

| Quote ="Saddened!"A lot of debate this time of year as ever about franchises and which team will be shafted to allow another similarly useless organisation into the setup. Would it not be a better idea to kick all the useless clubs out until they are ready? The only good enough teams next year will be:
Wigan
Wire
Leeds
Hull
Saints
Catalans
Huddersfield
Bradford
8 is plenty, we can add more when there is a cause to. Salford, Quins, Crusaders, Wakefield, Cas, Widnes and Hull KR are not really 'Super' enough.
14 games a season plus Challenge Cup and 3 x International Origin and play offs is fine. The teams would be far, far stronger. IMO crowds would rocket as every game would be close and there would be fewer games. Limiting supply would focus demand IMO. The NFL teams play 16 games a season for example.
It would help with player fitness and conditioning. It's a win-win for me. Sky deal could be spread more thickly and maybe the cap could rise slightly. International Origin could be given it's own weekends and big build ups and represent a genuine step up for the elite players, rather than a laugh at an exhibition with their mates as it bordered on this year.
Maybe 8 teams is a bit too far, but reducing it is the way to go IMO. The current league has 5 or 6 perennial strugglers, who struggle in every aspect of the game from financial, to attendances to youth development. The playing talent is spread too thinly and the competition hasn't developed like they planned when SL was introduced. Changing Widnes for Wakefield or Salford won't do a thing IMO.'"

Wish people like you would go away and leave the game to those who love and understand it - have you not done enough damage with you're halfbaked ideas already.
A 14 game SL now that's financially viable, mate you're a simpleton

Why should a club like Wakefield get a slice of the pie though? What do they bring to the competition?

Better prep for the International games and probably bigger crowds at the Challenge cup matches as well
I'd go for it , its a winner
SUPER DUPER league'"
You think SKY would be content to invest the same amount of money in the game when they're getting only half the matches? Do me a favour!
And each club would have 7 home games a season. Club chairmen already complain about not utilising their grounds enough with the current set up.

Nothing stopping them having Rihanna concerts to make up the difference. People need to wake up. Rugby League is a fantastic sport, but there are still too many flat cappers knocking about who want the old status quos to be preserved. Move with the times and improve the competition. If we stumble on blindly like we are it'll just keep getting pushed to the back and end up like handball or british basketball.

Woah there cowboy , I was just explaining the OP s plan , not my opinion , just what he was proposing
I'm fairly sure the club chairmen would happily take an extra million guaranteed than have to play more games , Well those that were in this Super Duper League

| I've got an idea.
14 teams, promotion and relegation.
Even if my side got relegated by finishing last (like we didn't in 2006), I'd love that idea.

Looking back franchising has helped us a lot whether we like it or not. We were a yo-yo club but the franchise system allowed us to bring through young players without the risk of being relegated and where are we now? 6 points off the top of the table and despite some awful results we're in the mix. I'd stick with the way it is, although I'll never understand what the Quins and Crusaders bring to the league, but that's a different story.

We could all get biased to our own teams and say swap Widnes for Huddersfield.Keep as 14 clubs as it gives other teams a chance to build.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
The whole idea at the start of this topic has had me sat shaking my head in disbelief at such a blinkered, pathetic view.
Nobody in this country would take an 8 team league seriously... it's hard enough with 14 trying to convince people to take it seriously as most are used to seeing 20+ teams in a league as in football.
8 teams... no thank you... 14... just right. Leave it alone... it doesn't need changing again.
