| While I certainly don’t want to see a player taken off on a stretcher (and I am glad he was OK), Yeaman cleaning out Scott Grix at the KC was brutal – and I thought it was a fair shot and Yeaman was unlucky to be penalised

Phil Ford on Martin Offiah - comes from the opposite wing (iirc) to nail him
'"
I remember that and I still can't understand how it happened.Offiah caught a Leeds bomb in his own 20 metre area and the onrushing Leeds players made a mess of nailing him and he found himself free with nothing but grass 80 metres in front of him as he hared off down the touchline towards the old dressing rooom end.Ford, who was also a left winger, chased and caught him, diagonally from the other side.I don't recall Offiah turning his head to see if he was being pursued and I think he arrogantly assumed that there was no one near him.

It certainly has comedic value though.
Quote For the opposite effect of a smaller man downing a bigger man with good technique look no further than Thomas Leuluai on Maurie Fa'asavalu'"
That is indeed a cracker. Chris Sandow is also apt to flatten anybody. Search "chris sandow mass hit on luke patten" you know where.
Probably my own favourite is Brian Carney's try saving tackle of Anthony Sullivan. The upper body strength of Carney to lift Sullivan and prevent the try is superb. Similar to Briscoe's, but just pips it, because where Briscoe flips him from the shoulder, Carney has to do it from the waist.

| The Phil Ford cover tackle on Martin Offiah sticks with me as the best example of just sheer bloody minded determination to get there, coupled with the technique to make it stick when you do.
Surprised nobody in the "smaller man on bigger man" stakes has mentioned Rob Burrow picking up and smashing Jamie Thackray.

| Ray Price was a hero at Wakey and his tackling was immense however he was the victim in this case.
In a match against Featherstone Jeff Grayshon (the only man playing at the time who was even older than Price) ran out of the line and smashed Price. It took him 5 minutes to get up which didn't happen often. I had the feeling old Jeff owed him that one and had waited years to do it. Job done and worth the wait, he was smiling for ages afterwards, Ray wasn't.

| Has Darren Albert’s tackle on Danny McGuire been mentioned on here yet?
That was a blinder in the shape of try scoring sense. I can’t remember which year or exact game it was though. It was on a DVD that sky released!

| I remember Wellens stood on his own line when Vainakolo ran styriaght at him, Wellens smashed him into touch. That was a classic tackle.
Can anyone remember a young Mick Cassidy ending Kev Wards career in the 8-8 draw at Central Park???

| The Phil Ford cover tackle on Offiah in the 1989 Challenge Cup tie at Headingley. Back then Offiah was at least twice as fast as the next faster player in the league. He was never caught when clear through. Ever (apart from by Ettinghausen).
I agree with the earlier poster about Morley on Carroll. Lots of shoulder barges mentioned but if you want to see a perfect tackle technique that cuts a man in half this is the one. Even sweeter that Aussie was a big hard Aussie test forward who had spent the off season telling everyone how many poms he would smash. Mozzer were nowburra kid back than an all.

I'm not. He was freakishly fast in his Widnes days. I have the video of that year's title decider (1989) and he skips past Mark preston (no slouch) without breaking a sweat to score at Naughton Park.

So, if Phil Ford could run the 100 metres in 11 seconds (reasonable) then Offiah could do it in 5.5 seconds?

| Gary Connolly on Joe Lydon at Old Trafford in the 1990 Challenge Cup Semi-Final. Lydon was flying down the wing and it looked a try all the way before Connolly came out of nowhere with a perfectly timed tackle that took Lydon into touch inches short of the line.

| Darren Brown on Michael Withers on Sky about 10 years ago at The Willows - Bulls won 52-1 (Offiah drop goal to give us a 1-0 lead) - Withers was away down the touchline and clear and from nowhere Brown (a backrow forward in the twilight of his career) came from behind Withers from the opposite side of the pitch to put him in touch at the cornerflag - all the more kudos to him with the fact Salford were getting absolutley smashed at the time too and the result of the tackle wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to the outcome of the game - outstanding effort as Stevo would say!

| Anyone remember Stephen Kearney's super-human effort to prevent Wendall Sailor grounding the ball in the 2000 World Cup Final at Old Trafford?
Two tackles that stand out for me. A Hull FC import called Meaa David absolutely demolishing a young Jason Robinson at the Boulevard.
But, by far the biggest 'hit' I ever saw was by an absolute beast called Siose Mulimumu for Whitehaven on Hull KR's Richie Hayes during the early 90's.
Mulimumu was a monster, anyone know what happened to him.

The Gary Connolly one on Domic is on youtube under "top tackle" From the camera angle, it looks like he comes from nowhere.

Just watched it. And even back then Stevo’s commentary was as bad as it is now – instead of praising the great tackle he says of Domic ‘he’s bombed it, I have never seen anything as bad as that from an experienced player’ (as he didn’t pass to the inside man)
I wish we had commentators who talked up the game
