In your job at work, do you always say exactly what you think of your boss to their face? Or the customers? Or the management? They are not above criticism, and there is a correct way of broaching difficult subjects without shooting yourself in the foot. There is a time and a place to stand your ground in defiance and to be diplomatic. If ranting and raving achieves nothing, and you have a stake in things, then there is absolutely no point to it and it could be to your detriment. Leigh's directors did rant and rave, but they didn't set up a decent youth system, they didn't do enough to improve their crowds to match ours, they didn't do enough to get a team on the pitch good enough to qualify to put a good bid in, and that's why you are where you are.

O Connor simply moved on and did what was necessary to achieve Widnes' main goal, there would have been no point doing otherwise. You have to work with the RFL whether you agree with the system or not. If you have ambitions you do.

The clubs in SL are the clubs picked by the RFL to be in SL , it is their decision , their decision only , it has nothing to do with ' deserving ' anything , it is business , plain and simple

They came across as bitter individuals and whether what they said was the absolute honest truth or just a thin strain of moans doesn't change the fact that Leigh came out of it looking rather poor.



What? You're saying teams who have gotten to the top league by ensuring they have a strong club do not deserve to be there? Leeds deserve to be there, they are one of the strongest teams in the country and are necessary for the health of the game, as are wigan and saints. Huddersfield deserve to be there, because they've similarly worked hard to strengthen their club in recent years. Widnes deserve to be there, because we've worked hard to ensure that we can get there and remain there. "Deserve" in this case is a relative term and your only qualification appears to be, "how should they chosen?" and the only answer is "by winning a grand final and working within P & R" but that's not the current system is it? And if it were, guess what? Leigh would still be in the championship and still very lucky to be in there!

As a Wakefield supporter I find this the topic of this thread an embarrassment.

Widnes deserve to go up because thay fulfilled the criteria asked of Championship Clubs who had aspirations to enter Super League. Whether you agree or disagree with franchising ( I disagree) is irrelevant, Widnes did what was asked.
Good luck to them, as for Wakefield, if we remain in Super League - great, if we don't then whilst I'll be disappointed It won't stop me going to watch (home & away)

Widnes fans are wonderful. I can count many of them on the vikings forum as some of the best friends I've ever had. They're smashing people and I can't think of any more deserving reward as them being able to watch their team play in SL.

Widnes have got in because we have presented the strongest bid. It bears absolutely no relation to Wakefields situation and Widnes have done nothing other than make ourselves the best club to join SL under the criteria set down by the powers that be. Whatever else happens is out of our hands.

they dont deserve to be promoted but in fairness they did not deserve to be relegated in the first place.

I'm not saying its Widnes's fault. But the reality is you are being brought into SL with an existing SL team being removed to free up that place. My point was time will tell if Widnes will offer more to SL than the team they are repalcing. If they don;t then it was pointless exercise that has basically wasted the milions of pounds that SL has invested in the team being removed.

He did tell the truth though about Celtic Crusaders, who shouldnt have got the place in SL in fact they got Widnes place.
