| Quote ="headhunter"It's not a 'local' pro club, it's local to about 40,000 people, the vast majority of whom are die-hard Unionites. They are anonymous to most others as they play under the same name as one of the most well-known Union sides in the world. The current Quins set up is absolutely ridiculous, I fully believe if they had their own stadium in an area that they were able to properly market and develop, they could easily achieve good crowds. There's no reason why they shouldn't, people from London are no different from anyone else and there's a heck of a lot of them. Despite what anyone says, 'Quins RL' is not and never will be an attractive proposition for fans. I probably wouldn't go and watch if I lived in London.'"
So you are saying that the actual name of the club would decide if you wanted to watch them ? Amazing , if they changed their name to ' Richmond ' their gates would increase ?
What you are suggesting is ' if they owned their own stadium in a large town , small city with no other sports being played in it or near it they might be able to get better crowds , no sh.t Sherlock , so where should they move to ?

The problem I see is that I know folk who live in the middle of London and are Union fans. They won't go to watch the Union side play because The Stoop is awkward to get to. If the Union lot won't go, what chance does RL have?

No, where have I said that? It is a factor though, it's obviously going to hamper their marketing, any casual or uneducated people who saw any mention of 'Harlequins' would associate it with Union, it's not a marketable brand.
I don't know where they should move to. There is a clear need to move though if there is any possibility of it. They got better crowd as London Broncos despite being completely Australian-oriented, I think if the current club was still at Griffin Park rather than the Stoop then crowds would be a heck of a lot better than they currently are.

I dont doubt RL has always been a northern sport. For a long time it was run by the most backwards parochial fools you could wish for. And they almost killed the game.
That isnt however an argument to say it always will be.

| Quote ="headhunter"Probably annoyed, but there's no reason to, crowds are not the be-all and end-all and in fact as long as finances are in order they don't really matter for anything at all. I doubt Quins have harmed youth development in Widnes, considering Widnes's U18s won their league. Quins aren't the only club stopping Widnes from being in Super League. Instead of slating them we should be looking at ways they can improve, because if they got their act together they could be an extremely valuable asset.'"
Im sorry if it seemed is was picking the Quins out but celtic and catalan also imo have harmed the progress of good rugby league towns getting in to super league.
Let's be honest, these so called points you need to gain a place in super league are a joke, when teams like Quins, celtic and catalan make super league and widnes, halifax, leigh, fev and barrow can't.
It's not as if Quins and celtic have been great off the field either.

Like WQ, I have watched pretty much all Quins RL home games, and frankly there have been higher announced crowds that I feel were a lot lower then todays. I struggle to accept the figures but there we go. Regardless, our crowds are painfully low and I suggest that there aren't many Quins RL fans who think to the contrary. What I know is that the last two seasons have kicked the guts out of even the loyalist fan like me - rubbish and boring rugby, losing at home week in and out, financial concerns, absolutely nothing positive coming out of the club - totally soul destroying and I was seriously considering not renewing my ST but I did. I am not convinced the location is an issue, any more than a losing side, lack of marketing, etc.

had it being uniformly crap then yes, Fact is, part of it has been outstanding, part of that management has been excellent and has achieved far beyond what heartland teams have achieved.

So Quins haven't brought through quality youth players? McCarthy-Scarsbrook (England international), Tony Clubb (England international), Will Sharp, and others...
Your crowds have gone up? I think you need to have a look at the stats before making comments. Since you got promoted in 2008, your average has fallen each season. From 7,501 to 6,616, and yesterdays local derby 5,992.

| As for the attendance: it's a shocker. No justifying it. It's not working at The Stoop, it's getting worse. This is their 6th season and their crowds have gone down every year apart from one, and they weren't exactly high to start with. RL needs a club in the area, but does it have to be IN London? Potential pro players would surely go a little outside of London for a contract?
