just like in france there are many pro union clubs

but once we got a pro RL club in france, guess what, we kept some of our good players

an elite level RL club provides juniors with a clear pathway through the ranks and encourages junior development

whats the point of developing juniors if theyve got nowhere to play. many wont want to leave wales.

How very ' Parochial ' , with an attitude like that they wouldn't deserve a SL club , however within a reasonable time period there is more than enough talent in South Wales to put together a truly Welsh Championship side , and hopefully a financially sustainably one

In the sense they don't need director input ? , no , but that surely should be one of the primary aims of all pro/semi pro clubs ?

the simple point is the rfl have propped up a failed franchise.
if the rfl are going to spend money in other countries then that money and more could and should have been invested in both a north and south wales clubs at semi pro level allowing them to grow naturally with foundations being layed. thats simple.

This is about a junior RL club starting up in Wrexham, but some people would rather either look at a negative side (in true rugby league fashion), or provoke a negative side out of someone else for their own self gratification (in true Australian rugby league fashion).

No, there aren't. The four Celtic League sides are full-time pro but the Welsh league is semi-pro (and has no North Walian sides).

The clubs spent that money but most of them are still around today. It's not like you can say that there was no benefit from giving them the little cash that they did get (aside from the likes of Prescott).

The tone of the first post usually sets the tone for the rest of the thread. The idea that millions of RFL cash was suddenly justified by the fact that one junior team has set up in Wrexham is absurd and invited disagreement. A more sensible discussion would have taken place if dally hadn't adopted a "take that flatcapper!" approach.



Indeed. These are good times for the expansion of junior RL in non-heartland areas. Lots of positive developments everywhere you look.

No the point being I suggested a Championship club in South Wales could have achieved similar results as far as junior development , and the aim for that club ( like ALL others ) should be self sustainability , you then for some strange reason brought Leigh into the argument

No idea , probably the same as all the other non SL clubs , which was 16/17 years ago , how much of your wages from 1994 do you still have ?

No, my idea is a semi-pro team that will still be around in 5 years as opposed to one that moves or goes bust at the end of every season.

Crusaders will have to move mountains this season to get the kinds of attendances that they got last year because of the bankruptcy, the points deductions and the use of the stadium to finance their debts. All of these stem from their inability to pay their bills in Bridgend.

Not forgetting that having a semi pro club would mean actual real Welsh players playing at as high a level as they are currently able to play at , if they do improve to SL level , then they move to a SL club , if that club is in England , then so be it
