Nine times out of ten both players would have had 10 minutes in the bin and the incident referred to the disciplinary committee. The red card was OTT in the context of the game and seriousness of the incident, particularly in light of the lack of any sanction against the instigator.

I'm not saying Bailey should have got red, but no-one can say he wasn't elbowing deliberately, the first one that hit Radford should have stopped him but it encouraged him, Radford shouldn't have done anything but I can understand his frustration.

Both yellow to cool down, especially with Bailey then getting up and trying to throw a few more and going for Long, regardless of contact it doesn't mean you can go round and try to butt anyone (something that is a straight red in RL)

I've no qualms with Bailey, he is there to get under the skin and is good at it, I just think Smith got it very wrong.

Its nice to see a level-headed poster on this thread. I do not agree with you that the actions were on par. Attempting to escape from a tackle and hitting a man while he is down is completely different IMO, and who is to say Bailey was intentionally elbowing Radford. I think only sin binning a player for throwing 4 punches (I stand corrected), while a man is lying there on the floor, is setting a dangerous precadent.

Like I said before, Bailey deserved a sin bin, but nothing more. Radford deserved a red card. I'm not sure why that is such a controversial statement and that I am "trolling" for holding this view.

Its a mans game. When someone is elbowing you in the head, in such a pressure cooker environment, its hard to keep your actions in check. These are agressive men and things boil over. "Normally", the refs realise this and a sin binning would be sufficient.

How have I ignored it? I said about 2 minutes ago Bailey deserved to be sin-binned. And in my opinion the two actions were not on the same level, so Radford had to go. Please point out how that is an "obvious" trolling attempt.

I don't agree with the red card but purely because there is no set precedent for it, he had to have 10 mins no complaint there but hand bags are usually always yellow cards.

Radford's offence was worse but it only happend through Bailey's niggle, and when Bailey then reacted back that earned him what should have been a yellow.

Three words to describe Bailey: Third Man Thug.
