| Quote ="Old_Faithful_IAKW"Without turning this into another Hull FC v Hull KR borefest IMO only Tony Smith could be ahead of Agar in that list.=#FF0000Agar, despite only having his 2 half-backs playing together once or twice in the full season, has taken the team who finished 12th last year to having a realistic chance of been in the top 4. The alternative coaches who might be deemed 'better' coaches (Bluey, Brown, Morgan) have taken their teams from 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively to (atm) 5th, 6th and 7th.'"
But it wasn't the same team though was it?

I know, what the hell. He has not even been the best winger for Wigan this year. Amos Roberts (barring his injury) has completely outclassed him. I can only assume people that people would rather Stevo think for them rather than make their own minds.
Quote ="Bovrick"That's why Richards is so popular. His kicking imo hasn't been as good this year as in previous years, but his general play is just great practically every game he plays.'"
I have to admit I can't ever remember thinking "Oh no here comes Pat Richards". He has run in some good tries and caught some good cross field kicks. His points scoring record this year has been impressive. But surely Wigans success this year has been more down to good coaching, the excellent playmaking of Sam Tomkins and the great running of players in the back rowers like Joel Tomkins.

Roberts was good for the first part of the season, then after his injury didn't recapture his form/wasn't fit. Pat had been the most consistent player in our team and he doesn't just catch kicks run in some trys he makes us a lot of metres, it's like having another forward. I see your point about Sam and Joel but i realyl think he's had an incredible season. I don' think thers a club that wouldn't have him.

To be honest it's been another tough year for me to pick, like last year. No player has truly stood out for me. Earlier in the year I agree Roberts would have walked it, unfortunately he ended up in a position where he couldn't walk, and it slipped away. A similar position may have appeared if the same hadn't happened with Eastmond.
I personally moved on to backing O'Loughlin for a while, due to his consistency, defence and assists, but since then his form has dropped a little back to his good but not great setting. I fear the same for Richards after some great point scoring form a few weeks ago, however he has come off this form too imo. Either of these would be deserving through consistency from Wigan, but obviously that is ignoring other players who have been impressive for other teams, for example McGuire and for bits of the season Pryce.
I'm just glad I'm not picking, as there is no obvious choice (eg. Barrett )but personally I couldn't argue against Richards. As for being threatening, you don't have to look it to actually be it, I remember not being at all threatened by a minor comeback in the second half by Bradford over Wigan earlier this year. At not one point did I think they would score, and suddenly they had won. I woud say that feeling is probably what Richards causes for other teams all the time.

| Pat Richards - Man Of Steel.
Went 40 yards, burnt the fullback and won Wigan the game.
I can't remember whether he scored 20 or 22 points. 14 points away from Andy Farrell's record.

| Embarrassing that people are mentioning Joel Tomkins, a player in his 6th Super League season, for Young Player of the Year.

YPOY Clarkson. This kid is something special and puts in 30+ tackles a game. Hasn't even had a full time pres season behind him. When he gets some muscle on him he will be very good.
Coach. MaGuire at this stage.......BUT.....too many imponderables to adjudge it yet. Whilst MaGuire has improved Wigan out of site what if Tony Smith or Brian Mclennan go on and lead their teams to the double. Is that not a greater achievement? Would it be right if Mclennan coached a team to his third and their fourth consecutive title and didn't win coach of the year once? Like I say, too many imponderables just yet.

I think that sums it up. I think really you want to give the MOS to a player that got their team to the top of the league (or at least the top 3/4). First choice would be a Wigan player but they have depended on having a great team rather than individuals (which is why Maguire is a shoe in for Coach of the Year). The same could be said for St.Helens so that leaves Warrington IMO.
I am not saying that Warrington are a bad team but there have been some great individual performers this year i.e. Monaghan, King, Morley.
I just hope that the MOS comes from a team in the top 4. I never thought that Adrian Vowles was a good choice because of the reasons I stated above. So if Pat Richards gets it for being the most consistent performer for the top team then that is understandable (if not my choice).

Arguably, Smith has improved Wire by more than Maguire anyway: 10th to 2nd (probably) rather than 6th to 1st. Plus a cup final.

Well said mate. Che took us to a cup final after what eight months in charge, something that we had not done in 30 years. He now has took us from tenth to second plus ANOTHER Wembley appearance. A class coach.

| After watching Sam Tompkins tear us a new 'arris yesterday, I would like to amend my YPOTY nominee to the aforementioned Master Tompkins. I do believe he is still eligible for the award.
Annoying little gyt at times, but a truly brilliant player.
