If you're a rugby fan and your partner gets stroppy because you want to go to MM on Valentines Day then IMO you're with the wrong partner.

Honestly people, don't you realise how lucky you are that you get to go to such great weekend event? A whole weekend of TGG. All those rugby starved people gathering for the start of the new season, no form established so anything could happen. Sounds bloody marvellous to me. If I didn't already have plans for a return to Europe next year, I'd be highly tempted to fly over for this weekend.

Yes however I was referring to the ever increasing list of excuses that seem to be appearing as the thread grows.

Think that is very optimistic but we will see. IMO the total attendance will be pretty much similar to the previous weekends in Cardiff.

i like the idea. i like the sound of starting the season with a bang. i'll probably go. feb is a bit strange tho. we were promised summer rugby league, and knocking a round a stadium for 7 games worth could be a bit much. i like my league, but its a lot, with nothing that the "summer experience" could offer. i can see a lot of folks in the boozers while some games are on.

It wouldn't matter what the RFL decided, when they decided to hold the event, or even if they cancelled it altogether, they're gonna get roundly bagged on here whatever the decision. But moaning because it's "Valentine's day weekend"?? FFS

Well yes, but it shouldn't matter that people in East Hull that don't have a job don't have holiday to take.

My reference to Valentine's Weekend was that hotels up their prices, it happens every year whether you celebrate it or not!

Really happy with this decision.

It will give the games some meaning as it gets the season off to a unique start with supporters wanting to see new signings in action.

If all goes well this could be our 2nd game of the season

Not that keen on the weather side and valentines scheduling does mean that eateries will be full and hotels charging a premium.

Jesus wept...the attitude of some on these boards stuns me at times. To those people who are moaning about MAYBE having to take 1 days holiday to attend........don't bother, I am sure you don't travel to away games anyway unless it's on a local bus route, but you'll use this fixture to try to look like you would normally walk over broken glass barefoot to get to a game


Hotel prices will go up.....same as flights and anything else as demand increases. Get over it. 5 months (about 22 weeks or more), save £20 a week..........and there you go! If you can't afford £20 a week tucked away, then hotel prices aren't the issue.
Weather. It's the best stadium in the UK....it has a roof, so the only problem MIGHT be getting there. Again, if demand is there, the rail companies will lay on extra trains.

Moan moan moan is all you get on these boards sometimes....and usually from fans of heartland clubs resenting having to travel further than the end of their own street to watch a game of RL

She's got a point. Its my (RooRoo-he's still logged in) birthday on the 13th and everywhere is waaaayy more expensive that weekend. Also as a Head Of Year, I can't book the Monday off so the weekend is a no go for us.

However the move back to Cardiff is an excellent idea- (for us) I only wish it was a week later-any other year it would have been half term but its a week later this year!!

Oh and Gutterfax-i regularly attend Oldham away games-it is just logistically impossible for me to stop Sunday night in Cardiff and be in school for 8am Monday!!

Still, if Saints play on the Sat we may just do the day

Might be logistically to watch the last game on Sunday and drive home though..........and if you're a teacher, 1 day off the booze will do you good and if you're an Oldham student......then one day off the booze will do you good

So the RFL should consider Teachers from the Oldham area who don't drive and can't book a days holiday 6 months in advance when planning their season starting showcase...


As I said................some people are never going to be happy.

1 days holiday out of 20 days (or in your case.........god knows how many) is 5% or your minimum entitlement is hardly going to interfere with the rest of the year is it?
FFS.......try being a lOndon Fan with 7 away games in Friday nights.......that's 7 days or 35% just to follow your team. Some people don't know they are born.......


Well, as a Quins RL fan who now lives in New Zealand I thinks it's disgraceful that the magic weekend isn't being played in the Cake Tin in Wellington....or at least at 3am in the morning in Cardiff so I don't have to get up in the middle of the night to watch my team.....it's a disgrace!
