Good question Jonny.
The camera angle rarely panned to the Upper West Stand, the southern end of the Upper West was scarcely populated. Also there were empty blocks of seating at either side of the away end for crowd safety enforced segregation areas. The design of the KC took into account the prospect of RL falling below capacity but was designed to 'appear' fuller. The lower bowl of the KC holds approx 19k. In ordinary fixtures the upper tier is not used and therefore with an average of say 14k at the KC, it does not feel like we are rattling around when the separate upper tier is empty and often ignored by those at the stadium (and by TV cameras), I think it works and gives a feeling of a fuller stadium and promotes a better atmosphere. Other similar sized and top quality SL grounds such as Wigan and Huddersfield did not use this design feature and any large areas of empty seats are often exposed on TV. I also think it detracts from the atmosphere when there are large gaps between popular seating areas. We don't really have this at the KC as three sides are well populated by the home fans and if the opposition bring well over a thousand fans the atmosphere can be quite good as the stadium is then populated on all four sides.
PS. I think your stadium is wonderful and hope you get up in the SL soonest.

| I saw the odd camera shot of the upper tier and it looked pretty full, as you know it's hard to sat but there were definately a few in there.
I've got to admit I love the design of the KC so that it always looks packed and has a good atmosphere, I didn't get chance to go up there in 2005 so i'm going to go to an England game there when we next have a game there.
Glad you like LSV.

it also helps the atmosphere in that the 4 corners are filled in with seats rather than gaps between the stands (mind you we could do with losing chav corner )

| You took the words right out of my mouth, the one thing I don't like about the DW is the very open corners. We don't have them filled in but there are a couple of structures where the screens go to cover two of them. I think I heard (may have dreamt it) that Warrington are going to fill in the corners at The HJ.

| Salfords original plans had a stand like the one at the KC, not sure if they have kept to those plans.

Supposedly the gaps help the pitch by letting the wind get to it. Though you wouldn't have thought so with they way the soccer ruin it.

| It's because they have the grass cut so short, no protection for the roots and then over using it. If it were just the RL team on it, they would have longer grass which provides protection and it would be like a bowling green.

| So to beat the record average with 14 teams we need 26625. With Cats, Bradford, Cas and Saints all to play at home.
The worst crowds for these teams would be Cats 5055, Bradford 7153, Cas 5025 and Saints 7728. Even if these crowds are that poor it's still 24961, I reckon Cats will get around 6k Bradford 7k, Cas 8k and Saints 8k.
Don't think there's much chance of breaking the record with 12 teams mind.

| Quality crowds so far. If only Bradford could get crowds like they used to, Saints should easy get 12k home fans, Cats stadium is reduced capacity and Cas-Wakey 'should' sell out.
If only........

| Quote ="the artist"its to do with unreserved seating and presumably to stop a last minute scramble for the remaining ones - it reduces capacity by 1500 or so in a 25000 stadium. its the same at hull'"
From what I understand, for all the unreserved seats you have, you need to allow for 10% empty (rather than 10% of overall capacity). This is why they only take 2,000 off capacity rather than 2,500.
The more reserved tickets we sell, the more seats that will be available. Not that we needed them for a Thursday night game mind. But if we have a Sunday afternoon game, we should try having a big marketing push and sell reserved seats in the North Stand to Rovers fans and reserved seats in the Upper West.

| Saints have (very wisely) decided to host the first showing of the new stadium plans etc at the ground before and after the game, so i think it will boost what would have been a poor attendance, it may even get towards 10k

6208 at Cats last night, leaving 20417 with 3 games to go. Easy peasy.

| Using the figures quoted on Skytext, it came to 89356, 644 short of 90k - very good considering that Bradford could only manage 6382 (worrying times at Odsal).

| That's a shocking attendance at Bradford. Surely this is the time the fans should be backing the club now that the coach they've all been blaming for the results has been sacked?

| I can't believe Bradford used to be as big as Wigan and Leeds. Clearly not.
I would love to see what the fans or Leeds, Wire, Saints and Hull would do if their team took a similar fall.
Our crowd went up despite being bottom.
