If the purpose of the game is to raise the intensity and help prepare players for the next step up then why not play a proper "Test trial" of England v England "A"?

It probably wouldn't pull in much of a crowd, but it'll be more competitive than playing against the French.

from what i've heard it's all dependant on the next NRL tv deal...with TV bosses wanting to move origin to weekends which would free everyone else to play internationals....

But those players are representing their state and country. Not a made up team to benefit England.

Theres a lot of history that gets binned in RL as you know. I wouldn't want to play for a made up team for no reason. I'd probably think 'let them lot batter each other while I have a rest'

SL clubs would justifiably be worried about their players risking serious injury in an exhibition match, as occurred to Australian Wallabies RU props Matt Dunning and Sekope Kepu:

It's been 55 years since Other Nationalities played against France & England in the European Championships.

There's a lot of history behind Liverpool City but I wouldn't expect them to be a roaring success if you brought them back either.

yeah when ever clubs have had a whinge about releasing players they've quickly been reminded of RLIF rules on releasing players if they are called up for international duty...

Look, if the issue is developing player pool and intensity level, why not have Yorkshire v Lancashire v Wales v France. Two weeks with Y/L and W/F one weekend and then W/Y F/L the next. Alternate years swap the second fixture to W/L and F/Y.
