| Quote ="Andy Gilder"I wonder how much it would cost the RFL to insure some of the premier players in SL against injury in what would amount to a meaningless friendly?
You've then got the issue of clearing a free weekend in the calendar, as you can't expect clubs to play without their England representatives and any they have called up to an Other Nationalities team.'"
I suppose it's a bit meaningless like SOO and the ANZAC test down under.
You just don't get battled hardened players from them you.

| Stop it, my sides are splitting.
So a game between England and a motley collection of overseas players thrown together for a week, with nothing but a bit of pride riding on the result, would have the same intensity as Origin or an Anzac Test?
Do you remember how "intense" that GB v Rest of the World one-off at Headingley was (late 80s?)
How are things on Planet Leaguefan?

It's the only (genuine) game in town, at least until the Welsh get up to speed.
If the purpose of the game is to raise the intensity and help prepare players for the next step up then why not play a proper "Test trial" of England v England "A"?
It probably wouldn't pull in much of a crowd, but it'll be more competitive than playing against the French.

| Quote ="roughyedspud"so all the aussies and to a lesser extent the kiwis that by coming to play in super league giving up any representative career they might have had down under would'nt relish the chance to play a international for the 'other nations' against england....?
i think you'll find they'll be falling over themselves to be involved....it would be a bloody good side too and a far greater test for us than france....the likes of buderus, king, fitzgibbon,o'meley etc..would all still be playing origin if they stayed at home...'"
Do you really believe that?
Buderus at 32 would be unlikely to replace Robbie Farah or Michael Ennis
Matt King? who's Origin spot would he take?
Fitzy at 32 had a second wind in 2008 but he knew his time was up with the shortened contract the Roosters offered him, they did not think he would be playing Rep games again.
O' Meley has not played at Origin level since 2006 and was a fringe first grader before leaving Australia
This team of other Nations... Why would they represent a Nation? why would it be called an International seeing as they do not represent any Country.
Maybe England should play Oz in a mid season Test?............
Oops, that has already been done with a less than spectacular result.
I think the GB team Coach or Manager said it would never be done again due to the lack of preparation and 1 days travel etc etc.
What he did not say but everyone knew was he did not want to face an Oz Test side that was mid season in full swing and rhythm.

If it's based on teams playing other teams close to them in the world rankings, it will be competitive, which is what we need.

Im sure they would get something and the chance to beat England. Why do you think Sam Burgess played for the NRL all stars? The same reason SL based players would want to play for SL all stars.
If you were playing in the NRL and had the chance to play a test match against Austraillia you would turn it down?

SL clubs would justifiably be worried about their players risking serious injury in an exhibition match, as occurred to Australian Wallabies RU props Matt Dunning and Sekope Kepu:
[url=http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,24750278-23217,00.htmlMatt Dunning and Sekope Kepu suffer serious injuries in tour-ending win[/url
Injuries in games like this can put a player's career at risk:
[url=http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,,25208346-23217,00.htmlAustralia prop Matt Dunning blames Wembley surface for contract crisis[/url
Furthermore, surely it is ironic that the NZ Kiwis and Pacific Island teams struggle to secure release of their players for test matches, or for those players to be fit enough to play, yet a Rest of the World 13 should be allowed to select them?

It's been 55 years since Other Nationalities played against France & England in the European Championships.
There's a lot of history behind Liverpool City but I wouldn't expect them to be a roaring success if you brought them back either.

Yes I know, against Lancashire in the County Championship in front of an estimated crowd of 2,000.

Thank you for proving that players do want to play in these games.
The NZ kiwi's dont struggle to secure release's for any players. They decided against selecting any SL players for the Anzac test, but they could of selected if they wished. No club can stop a player playing in a International in RL.

| Look, if the issue is developing player pool and intensity level, why not have Yorkshire v Lancashire v Wales v France. Two weeks with Y/L and W/F one weekend and then W/Y F/L the next. Alternate years swap the second fixture to W/L and F/Y.
