| Quote ="Trustafox"I assume I'm missing something with the magic weekend idea, but who exactly is it helping by being in Scotland? Or Wales for that matter (when it was there). It could be incredible for the Welsh now with a team there to support, but in Scotland, are any locals really going to take notice? No one to support, and a load of league fans all over the place to annoy them, don't see how it helps expansion at all. Meanwhile, all the league fans from everywhere else have to travel all that way, to watch a load of teams they could watch on tv anyway, don't see any real interest in watching a team you don't supprt, live (at least not enough to justify the journey). All seems very strange.'"
It increases awareness of the game. No professional RL there before, now there is some for them to see and check out. You need to be aware that something exists before you can support it, and that's what this event is about.
Your point about not wanting to watch teams you don't support can't be held by the majority. How many thousand people go to watch NFL at Wembley every year for the sake of it being NFL rather than it being whichever team? Just one prominent example there.

It's not though. If people don't want to go they wont go. It's a choice.

| It's a good idea in theory, but they have to accept that they have to either find a way of marketing Super League to make it appealing enough to draw a good crowd or just admit it's never going to be a sport that can draw big crowds.
Look at the Wembley crowd for the Saracens game last week. There must have been 40,000 there again, more than will attend the 'Wacky' weekend in total.

| I’ve said it before, Hearts and Hibs season ticket holders need to be let in for free. Perhaps the two clubs could even officially ‘adopt’ an RL club in each of the games so it gives any potential attendees something to support. All school children in Edinburgh should receive free tickets too. Again, the schools could be assigned to a particular RL club and in the run up to the game the players from their adopted team could visit the school and take a few of the PE lessons.

Are you available to start Monday?

Who are the Scots to support in the intervening period between events? Why make the fans who cough up every week travel so far to watch any ordinary round of games?
Maybe those thousands go to watch the NFL because it's their one opportunity to watch an incredible sporting and entertainment spectacle that is brilliantly marketed?

So the ones who play and watch might well attend the event, but you think that the event will mean more who don't already will go to these summer conference games?
Clutching at straws mate, the lack of compulsory element will be all too evident when Sky pictures show the sparsity of the crowd

There was an upsurge in interest in the game last year, yes.

I think you are right TBH, it is a shocking fixture list but there is no compulsion to go, those who want to will, those that don't will whinge and moan about it while trying to prevent those that wish to support these events the opportunity to go next year.

An upsurge? How would you quantify this? Count the Scots who bought tickets for the event, or was it an ongoing post event upsurge?
No one is preventing anyone from going, must have missed that diktat

Why don't we get Rangers and Celtic fans involved too so they can have a right old religion fueled punch up while we're at it.
I understand your point but maybe giving it to union clubs and league clubs in the area would make far more sense than inviting along fans from two clubs that hate one another and putting it at the Hearts end of town.

Does the Hearts/Hibs rivalry descend into sectarian violence ala Rangers/Celtic?
Cas and Trinity fans are not particularly fond of each other and there is no love lost between Wigan and Saints fans nor the two Hull clubs and they will all be in attendance.
Besides if that idea is unpalatable then limit the adoption of teams to the school children. I’m sure the wee bairns will behave themselves if the adults can not be trusted.

| The concept as ir stands is a one off shot of publicity each year. Read an intereting idea in RLW by John Drake saying that perhaps there should be a series of on the road games at a stadium. Each SL club plays there meaning 7 games spread over a period of weeks in a sustained promotional campaign.
Could be a goer.

If it meant as much money in RFL coffers as MM then aye, Quins (or Broncos as was) were always a supporter of on the road games, mainly through necessity mind.

We did actually have a 'home' game at Murrayfield against Barcelona a couple of years back though so the 'Hertz end of town' thing doesn't really matter.
As it is, I'm still in two minds whether or not to attend the Hibs-Hearts game, never mind the Magic weekend! As somebody who knows just how simple the journey is when everything is running smoothly, the rank train situation certainly isn't helping matters from a personal point of view.

| I do like the concept of the Magic Weekend having a round of Super League in one city and one stadium but the only thing I dont like about it is when they decided to get rid of the derby format last year, the only decent game in there this year IMO is Saints and Hull KR bring back the derby format I say.

I'm not in 2 minds about going, i'd love to go, it's just your tinpot club wont give us more tickets even though they know you won't sell out your section.
Ive got a free ticket for the magic malarky via Sunderland RL if i wanted it, but the day just doesn't appeal to me with only 15,000 ish fans being there, could be a dull atmosphere.
What's the deal with trains anyway Matt? Is it detour to Carlisle time of the year again?

You should be ok for the trains from your side of the hill, but on this side it's a rail replacement bus between Preston and Carlisle - first train from Carlisle only gets in to Waverley at 11:55 so it'd have to be a leisurely jog down Leith Walk to make kick off. And Hibs will sell-out, no problem now that we've only got three stands!

| How many have been sold?
I think the RFL should publish what percentage of tickets to each event have been sold, if they told me the England game at leigh had sold 90% of the capacity, it would give me the kick up the behind i need to go and buy mine. Maybe this could work at other events. Maybe publish a league table of which clubs are selling the most? I'm sure KR would hate to get outsold by FC.
