| rugby league was bigger in nz in 1990 than it is now, there were couple thousand more registered players than there are now about 20,000 0r so. Aussie league began being shown on free to air tv in 1989 after the canberra/blamain grand finak in 1990 they were showing 3 games a week. as well as tha test matches, uk challenge cup final and and local lion red national club final were on tv.
wanui vs upper hutt grand final was huge 10,000 at the basin reserve! fox memorial in auckland and canterbury also had similar grand final crowds. auckland vs wellington and canterbury rep pgames got crowds of several thosand. kiwi's beat oz in melbourne and then ritichie balckmore famous "mening i'll get u meninga" ads were on tv to promote other 2 test in series (which we got smashed in by the way) everyone was talking about dean lonergan get samshed an doing the spastic shakes on the ground an getting up to play on!
i could keep going on gutterfax and i dont wont to be rude to you but i dont think you know what your talking about!
league playing numbers have always gone up and down and league has been able to attract good crowds albiet in cycles if not consistenlty!
i remember visiting my grandad in auckland in 1990 when he heard i liked rugby league he said i see they are saying rugby league could be the no1 sport in nz i remember when they were saying that in the 1950's. my grandad was scottish immigrant to nz never played himself but my father and uncles all played league as kids in 1950's becuse he took tham along to the local club!
league has never been as big as union in nz and at time the participation rate has slipped to worring levels, but when it has had good administration backed with decent top level results it has always captured nz sporting public's attention. league has always had a hardcore diehard following in nz. has always been in the top 1 - 5 ranked spectator sports. and has beenranked number 1 tv sport on many occasions!
to sum it up when people play informal contact rugby in school at lunchtime after school 90% of the time it's a game of rugby league! discrimination by school systems partly because of union supporters and partly becasue league had/has a bad rep as a game for coal miners, bouncers, truck drivers, gang members, etc has stopped its growth combined with long periods of poor administration have seen games fortune fluctuate dramatically!
gutterfax im a bit ed off at your post to be honest where you in new zealand or wellington in 1990?

| gutterfax were you aware that when aussie league expanded to have teams in auckland, perth, north queensland and 2nd brisbane side, wellington dolphins bid just missed out, wellington side were jacking up games against nrl side like canberra. super league war and resulting bad media coverage, poor warriors results after being overhyped and failing to deliver the hype, and bad administration and incidents such as a drive by shooting occuring at wellington grand final, saw game go downhill in wellington after the mid 1990's.

"As part of the 2009 findings of the SPARC report into rugby league in New Zealand, New Zealand Rugby League is being organised into seven Zones"....[url=http://www.nzrl.co.nz/page/nzrl_zone_boards.htmlRead on if you dare...[/url
As for kiwi's 13-6.....you hark back to the past...when it is what will happen that is important. Tell you what, I'll stop posting generalistic theories on here if you stop posting generalistic theories on the Quins board......OK

So...???
I pointed out the traditional organisation of New Zealand Rugby League - which takes into account every single corner of New Zealand.
According to you:-
1. New Zealand rugby league is all in Auckland; and
2. There is no rugby league in the South Island of NZ.
Idiot.

| Who cares if they have reorganised???
The regions I posted were the official ones as far back as the 1980s.
I could quote you some books to refer to but you can't read.
Google is more your cup of tea - when your carer explains it to you.
Try the authors "Coffey and Wood"...

you said the official regions.....not the ex-official regions. All I did was point out your mistake
As it is, I have already said I was wrong to say League was not a big sport in the south island, but you continue to hark back to that. I actually said on a number of occassions that League has a massive opportunity to kick on in New Zealand and the fact that NZRU seem slow to react to threats would only help this growth, but you keep on harking back to posts I made before I properly researched the subject.
I repeat....regardless of what you think.....the list I linked to is from NZRL.
They can be conntacted at:
Rugby League House, 7 Beasley Avenue, Penrose, Auckland.
Email: admin@nzrl.co.nz
Website: www.nzrl.co.nz
The list you typed is nothing more than a wish list that you came up with to try to look smart......I would suggest you stick to licking windscreens

The list is from the official history of the NZ Rugby League written by Wood and Coffey.
Released to celebrate the first 100 years of NZ RL...
I guess it is wrong though because you, a union troll, says so.
And I already know people at the NZRL and the Auckland RL. David Blackwell is a good friend for example.
Thanks though.

| Even looking at the new divisions:-
Northern Zone (North Harbour, Whangerai)
Auckland
Counties Manukau
Upper Central Zone (Bay of Plenty, Coastline, Gisborne, Waikato)
Mid Central Zone (Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Taranaki, Wanganui)
Lower Central Zone (Wellington)
Southern Zone (Tasman, West Coast, Otago, Southland, Canterbury)
Almost every one of the areas I named is still included specifically...
Big win that one...

So you admit Gutterfax's 7 regions to be correct and yours some regions that existed 22 years ago - nothing like keeping up with events!!

Houston chapels...
No. I admit that gutterfax knows bugger all about NZ rugby league as even he admits "prior to researching"...
And when he did - google style like you - he came up with a list of 7 new regions (as of sometime in 2009) incorporating the very same areas I posted.
And you jumped in being desperate for a win...
Shame. You missed out again.

so, you reckon I got the list of regions by googling them do you? Wrong again professor....actually got it from the horses mouth during a meeting with them in a professional capacity......Put it this way, you're not the only one who 'knows' people at NZRL.........but you're probably the only one insecure enough to name drop
