He does have a point , but I doubt you would find an investor to pay for it , as the risk would be too great , It would need the RFL to finance it to prove it would work

| Grendel - The reality is that the recession has hit his business really hard. I dont think he would have been looking for a deal if the economy had been OK. Lets have 2 x CC2 teams in 2010. I`d drink to that.

ok whats the difference between 3.5k season tickets, and 3.5k individual tickets for 13 games?
its what Wests Tigers do, in the past 5 years they have played at Cambelltown, Leichhardt Oval, SFS, SCG, AMI, and the ANZ

| Quote ="SmokeyTA"it wouldnt be hugely different to how Wests operate,
and why wouldnt people buy tickets? the point is not immediately expecting people to go to all matches, it would encourage fans to 'dip their toes' as it were

Wests are already drawing on the support of two sets of fans with traditions. I don't think it can be compared in the same way. A new club that doesn't have any fans attached to it yet will struggle to make people think it's an "event" to come and see them.
And I didn't say people wouldn't buy tickets. I said season tickets, which is what clubs need. They need that guaranteed income. They need to know that so many people at least will turn up.
What I did say was cities wouldn't "buy" their games. This isn't The Magic Weekend.

i didnt say cities would 'buy' their games, though i would expect if the club was even reasonably successful then stadium operaters would likely be happy to accept a cut of takings instead of a 'rent'
and guaranteed income is only a big issue if you are borrowing against it or operating on a very small cash flow,
there is also nothing to stop mini-season tickets being sold for the 3 or 4 games in that city, along with regular season tickets,
and surely making it an 'event' makes it easier to get people to come? and surely its easier to get people to spend £60 and commit to 4 games than say £200 and committing to 13

| For 2011 the RFL will...encourage...a "merger" between Widnes and Wrexham, to "update" the Crusaders SL franchise and to be called summat as daft as the "Widnes/Wrexham Vikings", and funnily enough to play most of the games at Widnes but two or three at Wrexham (at least in 2011).
The "merged" club, strangely enough owned though by O'Commor, will then submit its application to renew its franchise, which of course it will walk because it will tick the boxes including re ground and solvency and because it still has a "development" aspect.
Then in 2012 they will drop the "Wrexham" bit, and play all the home games at Widnes.
And no-one at the RFL will ever suggest that Widnes, with its wealthy and committed owner, had to rescue Sheffield...sorry Wrexham, to avoid massive loss of face at the RFL.
Groundhog Day.

| OK. I have refused to enter this debate out of respect for Welsh fans.
But...as usual the history of these things has been ignored in the whole process.
Almost everything indicates Swansea will always be the best bet for rugby league in Wales.
Wrexham is not.

Groundhog Day.'" Agreed. I suspect that the only reason that Crusaders weren't allowed just to go t*ts up was that Sky wasn't prepared to run with 13 clubs, together with the problem of who'd end up with the bye on Magic weekend.

| Quote ="crucrucrusaders"I seriously think the club now, with the imminent move to Wrexham, have a great chance of getting a SL place the next time around.
The ground is better than a lot of grounds in the SL and is no longer a problem. I believe Nobby and Co will improve things on the field. I also think the 30 odd miles away from Widnes still makes the club an expansion club regardless of the clubs close by based on previous RFL criteria of being 20 miles away from another club earning a point.
The big stumbling block will be crowds. I do believe though with 3,000 home fans the club will average well over 4,000 and would be foot in next time as long as they are run on a decent financial footing.
I am quietly confident now the people who were involved previously will no doubt be gone they will achieve this and a place in SL next time around.'"
Those crowd figures are unrealistic.

| As i have posted on another board...that's me finished with RL.....it's turning into a circus, it's totally ridiculous and becoming a laughing stock of sport.
Challenge cup kicked off protected list, RL downgraded to the B category, the licence system is a joke, GB/Eng are incapable of winning.....

For 2011 I hope Steve O'Connor will encourage the RFL to go forth and multiply should the above prove to come true!

I have but now i'm fed up......Born in Hull but lived many years in Donny, supported the Dons pre promotion at Tattersfield with a few hundred others....first games at Dons for my baby girls..took them to Batley for the promotion game...remember the wet tarmac for the opening night of Big League...bust, then Stainforth as the Dragons..then to ground share at Belle Vue...Tony Fisher..Singe...Audley & Vila, the silky Mansson.(ahh memories)
Now in Hull 6 years and a season pass holder from day one in Hull !! so I have been it through it all again with Rovers...snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...then Glory.....BUT...its all fading away for me now, maybe it's just me but the game seems to be going backwards, both on and off the field...maybe it's just me..I dunno.....

Posts like this are a bit of a joke really...
Enjoy sitting at your next union game watching no tries scored in 90 minutes (10 minutes of OT hoping for a try) and reflecting on the high quality of the administrators (ie. read good liars) sitting in the stands.
Sounds like a fulfilling existence.
