| 1. Before franchising, there was no guaranteed way of getting into SL. This is shown by the number of seasons without promotion.
2. After fanchising their is a guaranteed way of getting into SL.
Why is 1. good and 2. Bad?

From around 1998 to 2007
If you had a decent stadia , finacial backing and you won the NL 1 GF you were not guaranteed to enter SL ?
Now
If you now have a decent stadium , financial backing and you win the 2010 Championship Gf you are guaranteed to enter SL in 2012 ?
Give us a clue then

| 1. How often did that happen in a decade? (and how many of those times were rules relaxed thanks to promises from clubs, since shown to be pie in the sky)
And ultimately the whole league, promotion campaign and years of work could come down to a good or bad day (or even a bad refs call) on a single game.
Complete, and utter lottery.
2. Get a Grade A licence (probably B at this stage) and you are in, no matter what. Something definate, achievable, structured and just the sort of thing all sorts of money men like to see.
Imagine its the Dragons Den, which pitch will get the money, the lottery of the a grand final, or the surety of a licence?

8 out of 10, Wakefield,Widnes,Huddersfield,Salford,Leigh,Cas,HKR,Cas all took their place in SL
Hunslet were refused and Dewsbury declined
So which clubs out of the the 8 promoted promised something they didn't deliver ? , did any of them go bancrupt as a result of their promotion ?
The only rule relaxed was the requirement for 2,000 seats which was changed for Cas as they only have around 1,500
Hardly life changing
Out of those 8 only Leigh and Cas finished bottom of SL the following year which is only the same as the Catalans and Salford/Celtic have done
You say get a B grade licence and you are in , strange as most considered that Widnes did get a grade b last year , but the RFL refused to give out the score they or any other club not given a franchise
If you remove the location criteria then Widnes most definatley would have scored a B , and considering that is the point of the argument you are wrong
I doubt very much any ' Dragon ' would go anywhere near any sports club as they are not that stupid , but I can guarantee they would not enter into any business were there were restrictions on its growth set by a governing body like the RFL

Yes, because the grading of licenses, and the criteria they were graded on, were not the same as the awarding of licenses.
It's a bit like saying: "Ok, I failed to qualify for a degree: but did I get a first or a lower second?" Meaningless.

| Wakefield promised a new stadium when they got promoted, and this time on their franchise application (and I suspect Salford were in the same boat)
Wakefield also had to go into a CVA after promotion.
Leigh were beggared in all but name after relegation.
Widnes beggared themselves trying to get promotion
Cas would have beggared them selves if they had failed.
The rest of your argument is based on nothing more than your own imaginings.

| RL in england cant afford P&R.
if teams in NL1 were fully pro and there wasnt a massive gap in wages maybe it might work, even in soccer relegation can lead to club getting into big financial problems.
as long as lower level clubs have a way to enter SL over time the system can work much better
the current system is actually very well thought out
the RFL just needs to have the guts next time to kick out the SL clubs who have squandered the chance they were given this time for better lower level clubs
SL clubs should be looking over their shoulder and not feel like their SL spot is a god given right

Agree completely , although that is not what we are discussing here
Apart from Widnes there are no clubs outside SL that would improve it at the moment
Apart from Celtic there are no clubs in SL that should be replaced by any other club than Widnes
In fact there are only 8/9 true ' Super ' clubs in SL

Leigh made a small profit from SL so you are completely wrong there , what transpired the year after was a result of personal issues nothing to do with Promotion to or relegation from SL
What happened to Widnes in 2007 is nothing to do with their promotion in 2001 which you were arguing about a few posts ago ie you are changing your argument
Cas are the only true Yo , Yo club ,but I dont seem to recall financial meltdown
Point being most of the clubs in SL are theoretically bancrupt , what state financially would huddersfield have been in in 2002 when Leigh fans outnumbered you at the Mc alpine for the league game without mr Davy ?
He was willing to bankroll you back into SL [ good on him for that , but if you were still outside SL NOW playing in front of the 1,200 fans you had back in 2002 he would have second thoughts doing it at this moment in time knowing that with a salary cap and no certainty that he would be awarded a franchise because of location is in place

So go on then how many did you have back in 2002 ?
What was the attendance at the league encounter at the Mc Alpine ?
, a CC final to look forward to , you do occaisionally play some decent RL , and a slowly growing fan base
I am made up for you and hope you can continue to progress and upset a few more so called ' big ' clubs
But the bottom line is without Mr Davy you would be bolloxed at the moment , well done to him , I applaud all and anybody willing to put money into their sporting clubs especially their local ones
Hopefully in the future he wont have to invest as much and you become a fully self sustaining club as I hope so do all clubs be they in SL or outside it
That is the biggest challenge to our sport , then it will still be there for our children and their children to enjoy

| Must say Galpharm's one of my favourite 'modern' style grounds to go to, awesome view and facilities.
Went there as a neutral for a Bulls v Rhinos Semi years ago and atmosphere with the place full was unbelievable.
