Not true.
What was the difference between Terry Newtons intentional shot on Long and Howell's intentional shot on Tomkins?
Nothing execpt that Tomkins was not injured.

| Dale Holdstock was banned for 4mths by the RFL when breaking Doncasters Matthew Walker's Jaw and he has later paid £11,000 out of court.
I emailed the RFL about this and their response was basically that the ban reflected the injury sustained by the player. I also asked why Walkers brother was not banned for a long spell for running across the pitch to get involved in the fight and was told that the fact it was family was the reason he only got a small ban and fine.
Now I dont know if Stosic is thinking of taking KC to court for this incident but if the RFL want to show any consistency why would anyone be surprised to see another 4mth ban imposed on Kieron? Well I actually know why we'd ALL be surprised...KC is a St Helens player and an icon of the game, Dale Holdstock was an NL1 average back row forward known to very few outside of the division.

Turry's was worse than anything I've seen on a rugby field because of how pre-meditated it was. Sure I've seen some bad-uns for example Sonny Nickle and Vila Matautia two that spring to mind, but Newton had hurting St Helens players on his mind throughout that game and didn't stop until he had. I've never seen that mindset before or since that day.
Cunningham's on Friday was borderline worthy of a penalty, it was petulant and born of frustration at the continued messing about at the play the ball. There was zero intent to harm and there was absolutely no venom in it either. I'd bet we've seen hundreds of similar incidents at play the balls this season, none of which have led to bans.
As has been mentioned had Stosic not been hurt no one would be talking about this at all. He was injured by freakish bad luck, not by any malicous intent on Cunningham's part.

No, he was injured by Cunningham's fist.
And you don't throw a punch without malicious intent. If he had given him a lovely piece of cake, fair enough - but he didn't.

You are looking at it too literally. Cunningham's mindset was more "Oh get off FFS!" than, "I'm going to rearrange your face". Yes there was a 2 inch prod but if we are going to start banning players for that there aren't going to be many players left on the field.

I'm approaching it from the viewpoint that Cunningham punched someone. Your assertion that no malicious intent lay behind the action is just stupid.
I bear my family no malicious intent, so I make sure to punch them in the face every chance I get. Oh no, wait - I don't, because that would be absurd.

Still being pedantic I see. Cunningham didn't intend to hurt Stosic, how much clearer can it be?
And lets see how serious the injuries are before we have Cunningham before the Hague on a War Crimes tribunal, someone on the Wakey board just said that "Stosic fine to play Sunday is what I have heard".

There's nothing pedantic about pointing out that punching a man is not compatible with a "lack of malice". If it were a clumsy challenge, fair enough - but you don't accidentally throw a punch.
Quote Cunningham didn't intend to hurt Stosic, how much clearer can it be?'"
Oh well, we'd better rewrite all the rules of the game (and the laws of the land). I guess you'll be advocating that officials ignore deliberate high tackles provided the recipient is injured less than some benchmark.
Cunningham punched the man. It was deliberate. It's against the rules.

You know exactly what he was thinking? Give over. Here's a question - if he didn't intend to hurt Stosic, why did he land a punch on his noggin? Odd behaviour for a pacifist.
What planet are you inhabiting exactly? Having seen it again a few times, KC clearly and intentionally aims a punch at his face. It wasn't an attempt to get him off, it wasn't a shove, it was a short punch that landed with considerable force. In fact if you watch it you can see KC's body shape to throw the punch - he puts considerable effort into it.
As I said before, KC can probably bench press 150kg. A short, intentioned punch will displace a helluva lot of power wherever it lands.
Why waste your time trying to defend the indefensible? I admire KC, and always have, but in this case it was a cheap and nasty attack which appears to have caused severe damage and the punishment should reflect that.

You are having a laugh Sonny Nickle went out with the intention of inflicting a career ending injury every game he played the hit on Mears was malicious - equally as bad if not worse than Newton's hit on Long

I recall sonny nickle doing a awful tackle on a Leeds player at Leeds, think his name was mears.
It's 1 of worst things I've seen on the rugby pithch. Leeds was in uproar and didn't stop in telling the press, tv or anyone who would listen that there man wouldn't again that year and had smashed up face.
That same smashed up player played 3 weeks later but sonny was giving 8 games iirc.
My point is, how can red hall ban a player on the time they expect him to be out?
Teams could try getting players banned for longer by making out it's worse than it is.
Unless red hall have medical evidence then how can they ban a player on that basis?

He clearly went into that challenge to do harm, but he didn't spend the game trying to mame someone, like Newton did.
The overreaction on this thread is unbelievable. "Defend the indefensible" indeed. What next? Cunningham is the devil?

Aside from the pathetic nature of your post, try using that as a defence in law.
The fact that the thread has gone somewhat out of proportion is as much to do with the blinkered inflammatory rantings of your fellow Saints fans.

| I think anyone who lashes out at the play the ball with their ball carrying arm should be banned for life and I hope Saints sack him.
I've never seen anyone lash out at the play the ball before and hope that Cunningham hasn't invented a new violent act in RL.

Don't worry - it'll be attributed to Nathan Brown. It usually is. The Chicken wing, the Grapple Tackle, the Cunningham Jab - all Nathan Browns fault.
And the recession is his fault too.
And the weather.
