On behalf of Cronulla I salute you, welcome to the Sutherland shire

Being a Canberra Raiders supporter, I certainly didn't pick them for colour of their jersey!

I actually started following Australian Rugby League as a kid, a few years before I even became a supporter of my Super League team.

I've seen my team win 1 Grand Final, so it certainly has nothing to do with glory.

And I've witnessed heaps of Australians down under wandering the streets in Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, West Ham, blah blah blah jerseys. I guess it's just like EPL fans wearing Barca and Real shirts, it's not only obvious but fact that NRL is the better competition

I lived in Queanbeyan for a while and I own a Raiders jumper myself.

I've got a lot of time for the 'Green Machine'

Just found out my cousin is dating Darius Boyd so maybe I should jump ship.......

Also, regarding your first post where you go onto say you've never seen an Australian League fan sporting any English League jerseys, I've been to many NRL games and seen heaps.

West Tigers.. Leeds, Bradford and Hull KR
Penrith.. Wigan & Bradford
Canberra.. Castleford, Leeds, Bradford and Hull FC

My list could go on.. and I esure you they're not expats having spoke to them!

I've been looking through the thread where I asked you Poms why you supported a particular NRL club and why.

To be honest the answers were lame.

Very lame.


The reasons seem to be 'because *insert NRL club* has the same colour shirts as my *insert English Superleague club*'

or

'Because *insert aging NRL star* used to play for *woeful superleague club*'

Clearly you people have little idea as to whats what in the world of NRL and Australia in general.

So as a favour to youse all I would like to offer you this information on my team .....the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks. Maybe then you will realise what a top area I come from and how you really ought to support us.

10 reasons to support us.

1. We have a great on field jumper.

2 Cronulla is a fantastic suburb, its only 45 mins or so on the train from the CBD of sydney.

3. We have great beaches.

4. We have a fantastic shopping area called Cronulla Plaza. Its great to wander through on the way to the beach after getting off the train.

5. I come from Cronulla.

6. We don't tolerate Lebanese abusing our lifeguards

7. We own our own ground.

8. Elle McPherson and GlennMcGrath both go for us. Oh and the lead singer out of the Hoodoo Gurus.

9. You can get a superb curry from the 'Handi Ghandi' curry house (easily the best named curry place I've ever seen)

in Cronulla Plaza after a few beers down Northies. The 'Handi Ghandis' line is 'Great curries.... no worries' ....and they arent wrong.

10. Our leagues club 'Sharkies' does fantastic seafood and an all you can eat buffet lunch (members only) for just 11 bucks during the week.

Come on poms.

Forget all the rubbish reasons why you think you go for Parra or the broncos.


Cronulla Sutherland Sharks are the team for you and you KNOW IT

Queanbeyan has one of the best leagues clubs I've ever been in.

Excellent place.

As I said I follow the dogs and have done for 20 years but because of my hate of Aussies I'm thinking of following the only none Aussie team in the nrl.

After all the kiwis are best rugby country in the world

Well Mr McKenzie , I'll try and explain my allegiance to the Brisbane Broncos .

I am a St Helens fan . Born and raised about 20 miles from the ground , they are my local team .

In the late 90's , Sky tv started showing live NRL games over here in the UK . I've always found it more enjoyable to follow a sport if you have an allegiance to one particular team , and I wanted to watch the NRL , as it's the best RL in the world .

The first game I saw was in early 2000 when the Broncos defeated the Knights with a late Darren Lockyer try . So I decided that the Broncos would be my team . It made sense , as I had a soft spot for Queensland because of Mal Meninga's and Phil Veivers' sterling service to St Helens .

Later that year , I was priviliged , to attend a couple of games at the 2000 World Cup , including the Final at Old Trafford . Darren Lockyer was superb .

Ever since Locky has been my all time favourite player , and I've supported the Broncos and Queensland .

If this meets with your disapproval and derision , then I don't give a **** .
I'm happy in my choices and reasons for following Aussie RL teams .

For the record I support Essendon in the AFL and don't give a **** about any other Aussie team .

A lot of people just buy a shirt when they go to Aus. To show they are a supporter of RL etc. The only one I have is a Queensland shirt, just because I like the shirt.

My Auntie and Uncle live in Auckland and so i've always followed the Warriors since their debut in 1996

Tigers and dragons for me, tigers cos when i was a kid i liked the idea of another team called the tigers, dragons because i've always enjoyed watching them play, like the strip and anything with saint george in the name must be good!
