That was my thoughts as well. He obviously isn't happy with something, otherwise he wouldn't want a new challenge, especially as such a young age. I could understand if he was a few years older.

Smith to go to RU and you have managed to bring both Noble and Wigan in to it! Is there something you would like to get off your chest?. go on you know you want to

Perhaps but he will get a hell of a lot more cash for this contract he is going to sign with Wasps.
Another example of the salary cap having a negative impact on the youth development in rugby league.

I will tell you what obsession is......
WIgan fans and the Salary cap. They are the only set of fans obsessed with it. It barely gets a mention by other fans, but its a daily occurence on cherry&white.
What makes me laugh is they deny it has anything to do with the fact they now cant spend more than anyone else on wages.

Your obsession with Wigan is getting boring now child.
What’s up is being a Saints fan not enough excitement for you that you feel the need to bring Wigan into every conversation you have?
Pathetic waste of existence doesn't even describe your life well enough.

| Threads like this make me wonder if the average RL fan's inferiority complex when it comes to Wigan ever disappear.
A fan of another team brings Wigan into it, then everyone piles in to slate the Wigan fans, who have barely commented - truly, truly bizarre.

Well the Leeds coach was quick to point out that he was unable to retain Smith because of the salary cap. Clearly it does have a negative impact on retaining younger players when they can can command much higher salaries playing Union. Hardly rocket science.

It is purely conjecture that he is leaving RL. It is hardly unusual for players of this age/contract status to leave one club to go to another.

Wish they would do it again.
Best piece of business in RL for years.
In fact how many "High profile" RL to RU players REALLY succeded at that boring game ( Jason Robinson apart?)
Glad to see the RFU and it's bigoted minions get royally stuffed as much as possible.
Sweeping generalisation I know, as there are people and clubs in Union who have fair and open, but are still few and far between.

Storm in a teacup'" smith will leave, doesn't matter if Ashton can't get a game for the northampton under11s he still isn't playing league and walker isn't half the player he was before leaving,
Whether union gain or not is irrelevant, league has lost. And in positions we can't afford to lose talented young players

| Lee Smith isn't good enough to worry about. He isn't good enough to make it in union at international level and can't kick so will most likely end up back at Hull KR/Wigan/Wire within 2 years.
The thing is that we CAN afford to lose players. It never did the NRL any harm or even Union when we were poaching their players.
One note of caution I would add is that London Wasps might not be the best destination for him, he might get stung again.

I disagree with you on this one.
If we want to make RL stronger then we have to keep as many of the good players like Smith, Aston, Walker, Raynor, Paul, Robinson, Faz etc as we can.
The greater number of good players we have playing in SL the better the standard of the comp we will see. It’s not rocket science really.
People say Smith will easily be replace by another youngster at Leeds but it misses the point that it would be more beneficial to RL in general to have both of these players plying their talents in RL rather than RU.
The greater the talent base the more players we have to choose from, the stronger SL and the lower leagues will become.
I know I’d prefer to see players such as Smith playing RL any day than RU knowing its making our comp better.

| Being a Rhinos fan it is disapointing to hear about Lee Smith leaving the code.
I wish him all the best, but can't help feeling he'll be another RFU gamble that ends in failure (with Smith trotting back to Super League with his tail between his legs next seson).
Does anyone really think he's good enough to cut it?
