King James has always had a hard on for Thompson, and it clouds his judgement.

Yes he seemed to always pick up a knock and have to come off mid-game. Worryingly some have been head knocks. Many have questioned whether he's a bit soft. Personally I don't think you can't get to play rugby in the forwards at the level he is at and be soft. He would never have made it this far.

He couldn't get in the GB side then either though. I mean actually playing for England/GB in November then being dropped by his club for meaningful games the following season.

A ban on the Wigan bored is for life not just for Christmas. I'm still banned for suggesting Liam Farrell is not big enough to be an international second row.
You've got to feel for them though; they were all burning their season tickets after 150 years of watching earlier in the season & Lam Radders should go. A week ago they were so happy they had stuck with them. Now it's the worst forward performance in the history of the club from someone who doesn't watch them. Priceless.

He isn't. Liam Watts stats are comfortably superior to that of Thompson's.

Interesting. Hard to compare props as how dominant a team they are in is a big point, as is how many minutes they play.
My take on the stats is Watts carries the ball more (average c.17 per game vs c.14 for Thompson) and defends more (41 vs 29 tackles per game). Would be interested in seeing how that works out by the minute but looks like Watts carries a heavier burden which makes sense given respective packs.
The quality of that work is a little different though.
- Thompson's average gain is approx 1m higher
- Thompson has made 13 clean breaks to Watts's 1 (and 74 busts to Watts 52) with more tries - that's a big difference, albeit Watts is a much much bigger offload threat which probably plays into this in the way he carries into contact
- Watts misses a far bigger proportion of his tackles (97 misses vs 37 Thompson)
- Watts gives away far more penalties (22 compared to 5)
Errors about the same per game (albeit thinking about that, Watts will be lower per carry).
Two cracking props, but struggling to see how Watts stats are "comfortably superior". Really hard to compare given the two wider packs and respective burden, but I certainly wouldn't contemplate swapping out Thompson for Watts.
Would love Watts in the Saints pack with him though!

Carries:
Watts 452 | Thompson 327
Marker Tackles:
Watts 183 | Thompson 115
Metres:
Watts 3160 |Thompson 2578
Offloads:
Watts 62 | Thompson 11
Tackle Busts:
Watts 52 | Thompson 74
Tackles:
Watts 937 | Thompson 586
Surely Watts is always going to miss more tackles if he is making almost 300 more tackles than Thompson throughout the season? Watts makes a considerable more amount of metres which is surprisingly given you'd think Saints will always have more ball possession than Cas. As you say errors Watts has made one more error where you could argue playing in a lesser team with lesser skilled players he would be more prone to make more errors due to inaccurate passes etc.
In conclusion the stats show that Watts makes far more metres, carries and tackles than Thompson which for me are the primary attributes of a prop forward. I'm not taking anything away from Thompson by the way. He's a fantastic player. I'm just dismissing the ludicrous statement that ‘Thompson is the best prop in the world’.

It's a perfectly valid opinion to have, it's all subjective. So many ifs and buts to the stats. The major one is that Thompson has Alex Walmsley to tango with, Watts doesn't, so he'll have 2 or 3 drives a set to do, Thompson won't get that workload even if he put his hand up for it. I'll bet Watts does an awful lot more gametime too, because his team is terrible and will concede bucketloads if he goes off.

That’s a ridiculous and completely pointless comparison. Watts will have played far more minutes so he should have made more metres, tackles etc. The best stat there is that allows for something close to a comparison is average gain. Watts is 6.99 a carry whereas Thompson is 7.88 metres. Watts is an excellent player but Thompson is a level above.

How is it ridiculous? So we dismiss the stats because Watts is fitter and able to play more minutes than Thompson? Maybe Thompson should improve his fitness then and then you'd have a more accurate comparison?
