How many fans do we have in total ?
100,000 in SL , another 20,000 in the Championships
£ 100 each gives us 12 million , ahh well not enough , never mind
Twice as many fans and we'd be in with a shout

Happy to have the one game there, in October. A world of difference weather wise to the middle of November.
There is also the fact that the GF fills Old Trafford, I would imagine we need to get somewhere close to that to make a profit, now seen as we haven't had a 70k+ crowd for an international since Adam was a lad and give that if England didn't qualify the crowd would be substantively less that the 30k that were in Leeds I'd guess we'd be on a loser playing at OT.

| It was well beyond "poor". The crush in the East Stand at half time was ridicoulous and could have easily have become a really dangerous situation.
Should never be used as a Rugby League stadium again.

| Quote ="Cronus"Here's a crazy idea.
Some are banging on about the RFL building a stadium as a RL base, for internationals, etc. How about - seeing as they're struggling to get things off the ground - the RFL get together with Salford and build a 40,000 seater stadium designed for and geared towards RL. A compact stadium, a bit like the Reebok, with the seats close to and over the pitch, great for an intimidating atmosphere, and indoor and outdoor training facilities, gyms, etc. Assuming a two-tier design, let Salford use the lower tier only. We could take votes from fans to name the stands (The Karalius Stand, the Prescott, the Hanley, etc...), sell the naming rights (The Carnegie RFL stadium?), and also sponsor the stands (the O2 Boston Stand!). Amateur finals could be played there, schools finals, university finals, Challenge Cup semi-finals, etc.
Hear me out. It's bang on the M60, walkable from The Trafford Centre. There are great bus connections to the TC, and possibly eventually a Metrolink connection. The only issue might be traffic jams, but it's not as though other grounds don't suffer from congestion. It's easy to get to from all the heartlands from the M60, M62, M61, East Lancs, M56, etc. The train station at Patricroft is a bit of a walk, but the RFL could lay on shuttle buses for big games. You could even fly into Barton!
No, it'll never, ever happen. But imo it would be great. Even if it wasn't at Salford.'"
Completely agree, big events and concerts there could help pay for the stadium itself and we could have all our own games there including the challenge cup semi finals like you say. We could name the stadium after a big company for money towards the costs. There are so many ways inwhich we could fund something like this and if it is joint with Salford and their council, the RFL would have to put even less towards it! This idea could work IMO and should be seriously considered by the RFL but like you say it won't happen.

As Cherrydevil suggested , Leeds would be better , especially if it could be ' rented ' to Leeds Utd
Any project like this would need a Football partner to work

| We sat in the John Charles stand and I thought it was okay. Stewards allowed us to take a pint into the stands, they just asked us to be sensible and try not to get on TV waving the beer around!
I thought the main problem was the parking. Instructions that came with tickets said to use car parks B, C or D. We queued for B for 20mins to be told it was for disabled badges only, and it was causing chaos with eneryone turning round to move onto car parks C and D. We plumped for C as we would have to turn left upon leaving. Again, instructions that came with tickets asked us to have £4.00 in correct change ready for the car park to avoid delays, but were told it was £5.00 when we got there. We had to pay with a £20 note and held everyone up getting change. Stupid thing is we'd deliberately gone and bought some mints with a fiver so we'd have the £4 ready!!

Maybe if our game had kept the earnings of players and built lovely stadia like Twickenham, Murrayfield and Lansdowne Road, we would have such luxuries.
Of course, such conduct would have been reprehensible but we would still have lovely stadia. And presumably media protection.

| I just don't understand how the Scottish RU raised the finance to build Murrayfield and continually raise the finance to keep the place open when they only use it a couple of times a year and their member clubs are nowhere near the level of the English RU Premier teams.
PS - I agree with all about Elland Rd, I'll only go there with a gun against my head, its an excellent example of a standing stadia that was forced to install seating onto terracing that wasn't designed for it and then went and built a brand new seated stand to the same specs as the old ones

Preferable to having your car broken into.
Parked just off Old Lane near co-op and arriving back found a few cars, including mine, with windows smashed. Funny thing is nothing pinched even though the young 'un had left the camera in the car, forgotting to take it to the ground.
Obviously not Wakefield fans as next year's season tickets left in the glove compartment

I agree, queuing to get up or down stairs, the ban on taking drinks into the seating area, meant at half time people had to stand in the pokey areas near the bars which was made worse by the queue for the toilets etc. It was shoulder to shoulder in there, i'm sure they're laws against doing that to animals let alone human beings we saw people waiting to et down off stairs but didn't move for 10 mins as there was nowhere for them to go.
An awful ground overall, why can't we arrange or go to a ground that allows a drink to be taken with you to sit down, like every RL ground.

You've never been to the KC I take it?
Long term, we really do need to consider something somewhere to call home.
The advantages of it would be numerous.
We could actually have a home. Keep going to Old Trafford for the big one, keep going to Wembley every August, but play the CC semi finals as a double header at the new ground. Use it for the Northern Rail, the Championship playoffs.
The potential for it being sold off as an alternative for gigs, and conventions is electric. Undercut the market.
Build the head offices into it. Build a museum to compliment the one at the George in Huddersfield there.
IF our game has vision, and there are certainly enough clever heads running clubs, then it is possible and it should be a success. It may finally be the thing that unites our very parochial sport.

Because the governing body never thought of it 100 years ago when it should of been done, we would currently have a stadiums like Twickers or Murrayfield with tradition and history and it would be a home of RL, but this is not the case.

Given its size and location we could build a "Wembley of the North" at Odsal, maybe a "Superdome" type arena, or possibly just a "Sporting Village".

- Because we play 2 games a year which would fill said stadium (assuming it was 40,000+)
- RL's international game is poor and no way on the scale of Union or football, were very much a club game
- we have an abundance of suitable stadiums, we have access to Old Trafford and Wembley
-I would imagine sponsorship of international RL is poor because of TV viewing figures throughout the UK
-building stadiums is a wee bit expensive.

Which is why I am saying we should do it along with Leeds Utd or Bradford football and rugby as part of the OSP.
