Think there has to be a good chance of it happening, by the fact they haven't sold anyone yet. I do hope they aren't rushing and get the right person, as it seems very fast, it took us around 8 months to get a new owner and investment and do think that Pearson waited for the right person, Salford don't want another Koukash.
Us not getting Cross won't effect us too much, but might cause problems for Leigh and do wonder if Wakey released Bain as they had eyes on one of Salford's quota players.

Hope you're right but with all the delays, buying of time the smoke & mirrors its hard to tell what's the actual reality of the whole sorry situation. Either way whatever the outcome questions have to asked about the governance and auditing by the RFL and IMG for this not to have been picked up.

Problem is that all SL clubs are running at a loss and Salford not even close to being the biggest apparently, they’re definitely at the lower end of the spending, you’d be opening a huge can of worms at this stage now if you restricted spending in relation to income. I’m sure the salary cap used to be proportional of revenue but that’s long gone now.

I would also say that questions have to be asked about how Salford have operated. It's one thing operating at a loss but it's another to be at the point that Salford seem to have reached where it's immediate investment or sales. Other clubs aren't asking for advances or are having to be placed under "special measures". Whilst it's a sorry situation, I think it needs looking into regarding how Salford got into this position and what they could have (and perhaps should have) done differently.

| Still think there needs to be some sort of retrospective punishment for Salford for the mess they are in.
Over the last few years we've had to make cut after cut to ensure we don't fall into financial ruin, but they've just been spending beyond their means and relying on handouts and bailouts from the rfl, councils, supporters etc... which all seems a bit shady although no proper financial audit seems to have taken place when handing out licence grades.
Really poor all round from Salford, IMG and the rfl (but it's what we've come to expect, right???)

Just came on to post something similar. First it was the weekend, then it was today, now it's Friday... really does come across as smoke and mirrors.

In an ideal world they'll get sorted this week. But it seems to be another example of the governing body reluctant to govern.
Reading the comments from John Davidson, Salford will run into some registration/insurance issues if it's not sorted by Friday.

Exactly this, have sympathy for the staff & fans affected by this but how much longer are the RFL going to keep putting off making a decision, sticking to it, taking action and governing.
Just sounds like more time being bought and rearranging of deckchairs in hope more than anything. There comes a point in time where nettle needs to be grasped and it is going away with the season fast approaching.
Sadly another example of the amateur way the sport is run.

There does come a point but if there’s hope of a solution, the RFL, the creditors and other stakeholders will hold out while it lasts. If it all falls over in a week that’s not much worse than bringing it to a head now.

It is a difficult situation because you are right that whilst there is hope of a solution, all parties will want to give time for it to be resolved. And rightly so because we don't want to lose any club from the game. But the biggest question at the moment for me is not so much about when someone like the RFL will act but IF they will act at all.

| I really hope it works out for them, as they may have been some bridges burnt. No guarantees that clubs will sign players and pay a fee, when they could get them for free if there is no investment.

| Someone had a good point on Twitter, of they are quota exemption brought in for Salford players there should be an exemption brought in for other signings. There are only 7 overseas players, so only a max of 7 clubs can benefit. To be fair, they should allow every club to sign an extra quota player.

| Not really, this is about saving people's incomes, not bolstering squads above and beyond that previously agreed. If we were given a dispensation would we sign a salford player or look for a quota half in Oz?

For me, this is one of the reasons why I feel they shouldn't be talking about exemptions at all at the moment. It's just a whole can of worms figuring out how to keep it fair for all clubs whilst also attempting to figure out a way to help out Salford. I know that each situation is different but the last time I believe there was exemptions was when Crusaders folded wasn't it? And those exemptions were to keep the suddenly uncontracted players employed. We're not in that position with Salford yet and hopefully we won't be.
To keep it fair, the RFL should have been reaching out solely to the clubs with available cap and quota spaces and encouraging them to deal. The other clubs should have been kept out of it until the situation turned more dire as per the Crusaders situation. I believe I read the other day that the latest proposal is that the clubs with spaces will get first refusal for a couple of weeks before clubs needing exemptions can get involved but if players and agents are aware that other clubs can put bids in for them in a few weeks then they'll just delay negotiations until they can get the maximum amount of offers on the table. So clubs with spaces may end up with no one whilst clubs with no spaces end up with extra players. It's going to be completely unbalanced.

Lets hope for the sake of all the Salford staff, fans and the game as a whole that this does indeed come through and in time. However moving forward I hope that Salford as a club for the good of the game will also face serious punishment for the situation if/when a takeover is completed.
