I support Leeds Rhinos first and foremost, I also believe the whole of Rugby League will benefit, if Super League expands further than the M62 corridor.
The Champions League in Football and European Cup in Rugby Union are very successful, sadly we’re not strong enough to have a separate European/International competition as well as Super League, so we need to give Super League more of an International flavour. That is one of the reasons I support Toronto Wolfpack, Toulouse Olympique and Catalan Dragons.
Just because you don’t agree with me, doesn’t make me a wind up merchant. I find it very bizarre that yourself and some other fans (mainly Leigh fans) are desperate for Toronto Wolfpack, Toulouse Olympique and Catalan Dragons to fail, celebrate whenever one of them lose and look to talk them down at any opportunity.

| I reckon I have watched well over a thousand games in my time. That was possibly the worst.
It was £15 in advance to get in which wasn’t bad.
I’m not sure where the TV microphones were positioned but at the game I was not overly aware of booing or chanting at the officials. Quite the opposite, it might have raised some atmosphere.

A group of Huddersfield season ticket holders are not happy with others getting in for free and confronted Richard Thewlis at last nights game.
IMO everyone in for free is a lazy attempt at boosting support. Bring a friend for £5 would be a better idea (followed up with bring a friend for £10) and get season ticket holders on board with encouraging others along to games, rather than winding them up that others are getting for free what they’ve already paid for. These offers could be available to all season ticket holders and any schools/clubs the Giants do community work with.

Catalan Dragons produce lots of Super League/Championship players and are one of the best supported Super League teams (other than the big trophy winning clubs) this could easily be replicated in other cities in the South of France.

I agree. This is supposed to be elite sport. Clubs shouldn't be giving it away for nothing.

Let's be honest, cheap tickets is the only idea that Huddersfield have. They already have season tickets that cost less than half the price of those at other clubs and they tried this before when they invited fans for "THE BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE CLUB'S HISTORY", which turned out to be, guess what, another cheap ticket deal.
They've got no plan, no strategy and no idea to turn those freebie and cheapie ticket holders into full-price paying customers and the more they try stuff like this, the more they cheapen themselves and the sport. People are becoming more discerning with what they spend their money on, and they're not going to spend money on the Giants when the club itself portrays itself as something not worth paying much (or indeed, anything) for.
It isn't even clear what the promotion is about. Would someone seeing that poster in Huddersfield Town centre even know what #WELCOMEWOOLFORD means? Why would they even give a crap?
People can keep bagging the RFL about the state of this sport but when this is the standard of marketing that the clubs produce, I think it's obvious where the problems really lie.

| The main idea of the 'free entry' is to get lapsed supporters and new potential fans onto the clubs database, once they have them they can then attempt to turn them into full time paying supporters, it's not just to ty and get a decent crowd for one game.

If that is the objective then they should be tactically targeting those lapsed customers, not plastering posters across the town that basically say "this product is worthless".
Those lapsed customers should be on a database anyway, the club should have an idea about their habits (if they only attend big games, do they only attend with cheap tickets, do they buy premium seats, do they prefer to sit in a particular part of the stadium, do they attend with kids/friends, etc) and they should be creating tactical offers and messaging using that knowledge on a regular basis. It's basic eCRM stuff.
Stunts like this do more harm that good. Why waste time with somebody who only wants your product if you're selling it below cost?

The problem is that having a couple of french teams in SL doesn't really spread the game in france, it localises it.
I've stated on these forums many times over the years that there needs to be more investment in the French League (and leagues in other countries). This includes SL type investment into the UK Championship.
SL then becomes a form of Champions League with only the top 2 clubs from each country playing games in that league whilst the next league down becomes the elite professional league of the nation in which is based and from which the top 2 clubs are chosen.
The current structure has been OK for 22 years now but if the RFL are serious, we shouldn't be demoting existing clubs to fit in new overseas teams, but rather, give something everyone could strive for.
As ever, money is the key, and investment in the lower leagues is imperative.

Spot on. It's lazy, and it cheapens the product. There is no attempt to engage new or lapsed fans. Even if they turn up for free, what are they then going to do to get them back as paying customers? You can't rely on a gripping game leaving them excited for more. What if it's a game like last night? It will all be a waste of time.
I'm not saying everything Hull do is right way to go. But in contrast, in a couple of weeks we are doing "Hull and Proud Week." I think this is the 3rd or 4th one now and it is hugely successful. Basically we play Salford at home on the Friday night, and Wigan at home the following Saturday afternoon. The Wigan match is being made into a family fun day with all kinds of entertainment and a junior rugby festival in the park pre match, they are also doing friend for a fiver for season ticket holders. Then every day in between the two matches there is some kind of event. Players going out to visit schools, a legends night, a pizza express challenge where the players basically take over the restaurant for the night, a fans and players quiz night and all other things in between. It's something for fans to really be excited about and involved in, and hopefully reach a bunch of new people aswell.
Anyway, what I am saying is you have to make the effort. Giving free entry for a game and backing it up with nothing won't achieve anything.

A more viable marketing strategy would have been to buy one get one free.

| I see Huddersfield are giving away tickets for the hardly eagerly awaited 'rematch' (as they are marketing it) with Catalan.
Having watched that on garbage between them last night I first thought 'that much' for the offer a free ticket when I saw it.
They'd have to pay fans to go and watch that spectacle again. I bet even with tickets costing nothing the attendance on that day will be less than last night.
And who really wants to hear that D**kHead with his stupid cowbell for 80 more minutes?

Maybe it's......because a bloke who works in a High earning sales job and lives in a London Flat living with his girlfriend who is a top tier estate agent and has super model looks has a £500 fan, whilst a bloke who's been on the dole for a decade and is living with his 18 stone, 20 a day smoking alcoholic school sweetheart and their 5 illegitimate kids in a council flat can't afford one.....
....I'm not saying it is, but that's what the power of marketing can portray if it wants to......
Rugby League isn't inspirational. The Grand Final and CC Final aside, we attract 8k to games as an average......it's not a question of why a Dyson fan is £500.....more an inquiry as to why they can get £500 for it and then to duplicate it for our sport......because you'll never change society, but you can change what they desire.

The tickets are only available to those 'purchased' online, the idea is to get the data of potential and lapsed fans in an attempt to win them back, it's not just a case of standing outside the stadium handing them out.
If 10% of them end up being regular fans then it's been a good exercise.

Awful, awful spectacle. And they're hoping to spread the game in the USA with this.
