| Quote ="LyndsayGill"Think you're being a bit unfair to the sponsor. They've put money into the club for the privilege of sponsoring the away shirt, and for that they should be applauded. God knows it must be hard to sell Wakefield to any potential sponsor given last years performance.
We'd all like a big national/international name on the front of the shirt but it ain't going to happen until the game has a higher national/international profile and Wakefield as a club string a few successful seasons together and possibly come up with some silverware.'"
I agree with your first point. Sponsors are sponsors and are key to any Club regardless of who they are.
Salford managed to get Mitsubishi to be their main sponsor this coming season. That's Mitsubishi UK and not a franchise garage and Salford hardly had the seasons to end all seasons last year. Bigger sponsors are out there for the game but I think a lot depends on who you have working behind the scenes to get them in. I don't think Wakefield is a much harder sell than Salford with the exception of geography and access to a larger population.

All depends on the money coming in. Just because one company is 'bigger' than another it doesnt mean that they will pay more.
As an example, id rather my club have some cr@ppy sponsor like Mecca Bingo paying a ton of money than say Mercedes who pay half of what Mecca would

| Wakefield have done pretty well with shirt sponsorship so far, they got a sponsor for the festive challenge against Leeds then they secured the main shirt sponsor who unselfishly gave the rites to the away shirt back to the club who were able to auction it off with the winner being the pet company.
Apart from the extra money Trinity made they also attracted around 25 to 30 bids from other companies who are now exploring alternative sponsorships, advertising and/or hospitality.
I agree that the shirt looks busy but it's a business as well as a sport and if the extra money made allows Trinity to sign Peter Wallace then the fans won't be complaining.

Could it be that Mitsubishi came on board due to the 'Marwan factor' ? The bloke generates headlines/publicity that put him and Salford in the limelight outside of events on the pitch. So a win win situation for a sponsor.

No idea to be honest.
Maybe his business dealings brings him into contact with more potential sponsors.

Apparently our traditional home colours were blue. The great Trinity side of the 60s had the white with red and blue band so we tend recognise that as a proper trinity home kit. We had a few prodominatly Blue kits in the early 90s British coal ones.

Yes - we have. As have all 12 clubs in SL. The only clubs who haven't qualified for the Super 8's are 4 teams from the Championship who need to finish in the top 4 of their comp. HTH.

Actually all the Championship clubs have qualified for the Super 8s too. The question is which Super 8?
Super League Super 8
Qualifiers Super 8
or Championship Shield Super 8.
Only the League 1 clubs aren't in the Super 8s, though I still don't really understand the convoluted system down there to shoehorn Toulouse into the English leagues (again).

| Yes - your quite correct L Sparrow. The terminology used on the RFL site is:-
Teams 1 to 8 continue as SL
Teams 9 to 16 as SL Qualifiers
Teams 17 to 24 as Championship Shield
All under the umbrella of Super 8's.

That is one horrible rugby shirt.
Had the shirt designers split something on the paper, or was it used to wipe the floor ?

| Yep - agreed. Why do we need a third shirt anyway ? Milking the fans for another £40 is all its about IMO.

| Donny kit design looks pretty awesome, has that classic retro vibe. If they made those kits in cotton like the State of Origin shirts I'd buy them.

Confirmed by the club that the kit will be sublimated so I retract what I said, best kit in years from Thunder

| I have to say that I'm really impressed with a lot of this season's kits now we've seen them all once. A lot look much simpler and classier than some of the dross that's been designed over the last 20+ years in rugby league, where I'm certain clubs have said to kit manufacturers "please make this year's kit as wild and disgusting as possible with stupid flashes of colour here and there and make it look like something a cartoon super hero robot would wear".
Wire Widnes Hull Huddersfield HullKR Catalans have some very classy kits, I thought Wigan's away was decent too. Saints looked like Napoli the other night.
There are still some of the 1980s Transformers cartoon kits still around but hopefully we're moving away from that as a sport now and looking a lot smarter and classier.
