www.backpagelead.com.au/afl/3101 ... fl-rights-
an article on the nrl tv rights
ive assumed well get $800 million over 5 years but some people speculate it could be $1 billion ie an extra $40 million pa
should the nrl get $1 billion a salary cap of $8 - $10 million is possible for the nrl, seeing the top players on $3 - $5 million including 3rd party deals.
in 12 months time well know how much extra money well be getting.

NZ has a strong provinicial Rah Rah Comp as well (ITM Cup) been told most of the Kiwi public would prefer to play only that and not the S15 (from next season)

theres a poll floating around showing that more people prefer the nrl to ITM cup in auckland
the crowds are terrible.
the S15 has harmed RU in nz like the broncos did to the BRL.

never said anything of the sort.
theres a load of players in the S15 that could make good nrl players, especially the ones who have a RL background like piri weepu or qude cooper, or are ex Rl players like jarred saffy etc.
in addition to boosting RL playing ranks there is also the massive blow it would strike against union and boost for RL espcially in nz.
can you imagine the publicity RL will get if they sign a few good all blacks players.
we should only be targetting their best players or ones with a RL pedigree.

I remember it well. And the mad butcher buying all those freebies for kiwis over here. However I looked up 2002 after your comment and may offer an explanation as to why league was being talked about above Union in NZ as you put it. No Union was being played. The season was over and been for several weeks.
Super 12 Grand Final finished – 25th May 2002
All Black's last Tri-Nations game – August 10 2002
NRL Grand Final with Warriors (NZ's first ever time in GF) – 6 October 2002
A viable explanation. What do you think?

To be fair, the S12, S14, S15 always finish at that time. The Tri-Nations also always finish around August too. After they have completed, the NZ provincial competition begins in around early Sept every year and concludes in late October. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think 2002 would have been any different.

Quote ="Wellsy13"Well, just in case you hadn't heard yet, the Kiwis have just won their 3rd major title in 6 years, making them the most successful international side in the world at the moment. This off the back of only one team in the NRL. There are tons of Kiwis spread across the NRL at the moment in Aussie clubs (and they say British clubs have too many imports?!).
Surely this hotbed of RL needs a second NRL team? There must be an appetite for it somewhere. It would do wonders for the international game (creating more diehard league fans around NZ that will no doubt attend international games) as well as no doubt breed a lot more talented players not only for NZ, but for the Pacific Island nations (you know, the ones that are Kiwis until they stopped getting picked!). As daft as that sounds, it would most likely be the case that you'd see them improve because of the slack international eligibility laws, which can only be a bonus to the international game.
What ever happened to the Southern Orcas bid? It seems to have gone very quiet (weren't they even applying to play in the Super League at one point?!). The PNG bid seems to be making more noise than them at the moment. I just think it's a bit of a shame that we could be missing out on probably the best ever chance to expand the game in NZ whilst it's probably at the most popular level it's ever been at over there. At the same time though, the other bids in CC and Perth are very good. Would be amazing if we could fit them all in!'"
why not have a SL based team in the NRL - the UK Warriors for example ? made up only of true brits ? Basically a GB team in the NRL ! .............now onto the third bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau ! posting.php?mode=quote&f=2&p=15678198#

| Daly, you persist with this rubbish and yet you back it up with nothing.
The AB's will always be the No1 sporting team in NZ.......Rugby Union will always be the No1 sport. The social and demographic make up of the country disctates where and when sports are popular....as I have said, The Warriors are based where they are based purely on the make up of the immediate population......which is pacfic and Maori in its make up.
Europeans.
Example....in the Auckland region, 56% of the population are "European" with over 25% described as pacific/Maori. The averages across New Zealand are 78% European and 21% Maori/Pacific. This is why sports like Basketball and Rugby League are popular in the Auckland region and why European sports, such as Union are bigger elsewhere.
Social stereotyping is not always a good thing, but the worlds largest marketers use it......as do a very large number of my clients. Simple facts that are available to read here ([urlhttp://apps.nowwhere.com.au/StatsNZ/Maps/default.aspx[/url) show that the average income is less for non europeans, the lifestyles are different and essentially, NZ is a middle class country. Union is the traditional game of New Zealand.....and whilst crowds are dropping off, other sports, including League have seen fan numbers reduced in recent years.
You again state that S15 will die as a result of the next NRL TV contract but you back it up with nothing.......apart from your opinion which as has been pointed out by Kiwis on these boards, is the stuff of fantasy
I repeat the question: Where did you live in NZ and for how long? Your insightfulness may prove helpfull to some of my major clients as they are always looking for good analysts......especially ones who can back up their research with facts
