Quote ="JEAN CAPDOUZE"Last time I attended the seats in the main stand were wooden. But that was a while ago, in 2003. I refused to go back after I stood in the toilets and had someone else's pee splash on me, because they couldn't afford modern (late 20th century) urinals.
That "stadium" is a disgrace, and if they have replaced the splintering wooden seats with plastic ones, ok. But how about the fact that nowhere is the seating elevated to the point that you can look down on the game? It is only marginally above the standard of the PNG Hunters Kalabond stadium in Kokopo, PNG.
see here and compare: www.qrl.com.au/news/2015/03/31/h ... png_v.html'"
You really have lead a sheltered life Jean.
If Belle Vue is the only place you've been "splashed", you need to get out more
Normally you posts are taking the "p" and now your complaining about getting some back
You know that the club have tried desperately to move from BV and some of the original costs involved in planning and expecting the move to Newmarket, was probably to undoing for the Ted Richardson regime.
The current farce surrounding the development is stifling the club and the lack of a decent facility is certainly holding Wakefield back but, unless someone comes along with a few million to "invest", we have to wait for this situation to be resolved.
Some while ago, it looked a racing certainty but now, who knows.
The problem that Wakefield has now is that, we look like favourites from the drop and there may be no return for a once great club.

Maybe they should merge with another club to secure their super league status. Can't for the life of me remember who did this in 1999. Any ideas?

You are defeating your own point by making things up Jean.
No one would argue that the stadium is anything other than 50 years out of date, but you clearly are just making up facts on what you have seen on tv.

You don't know what you are talking about, as usual.
I have been to Belle Vue, on the occasion of London playing Wakefield back in 2003. Before the game, because I was a guest of a prominent Wakefield supporter, I was able to eat in the elite dining facility in the more modern building behind the goal posts. For the game I sat in the stadium's best seats (which were wooden back then) in the stand along the sideline, in the vicinity of Neil Fox and David Topliss. That stand has no elevation so it was a poor view of the game. The toilets forthe general public were shocking and I suspect still are, because I refuse to go back. Only Leigh's then stadium (before LSV) was worse at that time. Leigh have since upgraded their stadium to the 21st century, Wakefield have not.

It is elite only because it is not open to the general public, and you sit on chairs at tables and eat with knives and forks.
Apparently only club officials, board members and the players and staff can eat there -- along with selected guests, of which I was one.

Must admit the powdered egg and milk stout was something I looked forward.
It could be worse there's a superleague team based in France!!!

| I'm really disappointed with this figure tbh, a city the size of Wakey with the popularity of RL and with no other sport or club as competition should be getting 5 figures easy.
I hope they get a new stadium as the city deserve it and I think it would vastly improve attendance as long as it is put in a decent location

Yes, chicken wings and chips is the order of the day in Perpignan.
Not much meat on them and cooked outside in the open air but, Jean doesn't like to talk about such things.
(actually they were ok) but its more Pukka Pies than poulet, in Belle Vue (unless you wine & dine in the Neil Fox suite)
But he doesn't mention that either.

It's difficult though really because Wakefield itself only has a population of about 77k - If you include the wider Wakefield "district" then you get up to about 350k. Unfortunately though, a lot of people from the towns surrounding Wakefield don't really identify with Wakefield, in the same way that someone from say Horseforth would identify with Leeds. Also Cas and Featherstone hoover up a lot of support from the East of the district, Leeds from the North and then we have Batley and Dewsbury over to the West, so we are pretty saturated with proud, famous old clubs round here for people to pick from.

What rot. There is plenty to do in Wakefield. There is Harry's Bar for some real ale. There is Merlin's Magic Shop. There is Dinosaur Discovery for the kids. And most important there is the National Coal Mining Museum, which has no equal anywhere else in Britain. I have visited it, and I can assure you that other visitors were saying how lucky the residents of Wakefield are to have such a magnificent attraction located in their community.

Why stop at Harry's bar if you like real ale? The Hop for example is a top night out.
Don't forget the Yorshire sculpture park and the Hepworth is good too.
Some really great open spaces too like Newmillerdam, Sekkar Woods, walton colliery country park (great pub in Walton for a spot of lunch), pugneys and anglers country park. Much nicer than the prostitute and drug addict infested hell hole of roundhay.

For tourists maybe. But how many times a year would a Wakefield local be visiting it, especially on a Sunday afternoon instead of the rugby league?
