Been down in Sutton , Surrey today ( first time darn sarf for a job in over ten years ) doing a survey , customers was saying that in his words " RL was becoming very popular down there " , albeit as a summer months ' fill in '

His son had recently been to oz and was amazed that league was so big ' down under ' , I was explaining how in NZ it was the opposite

Although it is a bit of a P in the A to get to Twickenham 'The Moon' Stoop from the Hammersmith/She Bu/ Willesden/Harlesden areas of London the main reasons Barry McKenzie never attended a Harlequins RL game were;

1. The team were very poor.

2. No one ever turned up and there was no atmosphere (hence 'The Moon' comment)

3. Harlequins have never had any half decent Aussies that any Antips would want to come and watch since the days of Jimmy Dymock and Dennis Moran when the club was the Broncos.

4. They don't sell VB.

5. I've never heard of any of the players.

6. 80 mins watching Quins RL would be 80 mins of my life I would never get back again.

7. The replica kit is foul and it would induce Glaucoma into anyone foolish enough to part with £45 for a jumper.


If these 7 points were addressed I would deffo have gone along.

Sadly I wont be here in sunny London next year to go along even if I wanted to... but even if I was... I wouldnt.

And I dont know anyone else who would either

Oh and why pay £15 or £20 or whatever Quins charge to see a game on a Sunday arvo when I could use that same amount of money as a kick start to getting rotten down the Reddie, the Church or the Walkie?

They don't come because aside from a few notable exceptions they're not just not that into RL beyond whatever club the support back home, same is true of many fans from M62 belt.

Listy disagrees with everyone, he could cause an argument in an empty house. If you're around get yourself a season ticket, a great think about Quins is we know we're crap and we know loads of people hate us because we're not the neighbouring pit village, so the only way is up. Expect the worst, and then you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Look Sherlock, I appreciate your an Aussie (or at least a pretend Aussie), but it's not exactly a secret that we're rubbish, I don't think many people will really buy into if I claim we're reall dead good, except maybe Aussies (and pretend Aussies) who haven't got a clue about RL except what some cretin like Andrew Voss tells them they should think as they settle down in their armchair to watch a game they've probably never seen live, but as they wouldn't go to a live game if it was played at the bottom of their garden it's neither here nor there.

If he did (and liked it) he would tell his mates... who in turn would tell their mates... and that way even more people might come along for a looky.

The Aussies didn't even turn up to see their national side play the world champs at the Stoop- The majority are middle class students bumming around pretending to be real hard drinking Aussies.

And from what I saw there were hardly any Poms there.

Not a massive crowd... but when you consider probably 90% were Aussies or Kiwis it's not bad.

If your club sold real beer like VB or Steinlager the crowd would probably have been up by a third again.

Bazza as you know they've had VB and them appalling pies several time this year a the Stoop and no Aussies turned up

When we were at Brentford the ONLY beer you could buy was VB and no Aussies turned up-they even sponsored us.

6 tins of VB for a tenner (per half)......thank God I only had to stagger as far as the Griffin to get home

Maybe if the sell some real ales you could get the real ale mob in.

Yes that would be all well and good if you live near Waterloo - if there is tube lines down which is a possibility on a weekend it is a nightmare to get to!!! this is from first hand experience to!!

I left last October and if I'm honest, I am not sure who's happier.....me, Harlequins Rugby League or the Quins RL fans

Well yeah it should relocate to East London...but thats another debate!
