That's a fair comment, but 20,000 at the Liberty stadium (say) would be a reasonable idea too.

| Quote t-r-i-n-i-t-y="t-r-i-n-i-t-y"I have full confidence that this tournament won't have the disastrous opening as the 2000 one with Ireland/Samoa played out on TV with John Inverdale extracting the urine throughout thanks to the weather and crowd. (Willie Poching's goal kicking adding to the farce.)
They were talking on Saturday of a potential sell-out for the final before the tournament kicks off. Interest will grow as we get closer.
I don't see a problem with the cheap tickets. The prices will attract those who've never been to a game before because it's not a gamble the cost isn't worth it.'"
TBH, a sold-out final and an England win will overcome any 'bad' media - such as the press focusing on empty seats, etc. It's a long shot (the England win), but if it happens, we'll be presented with the best opportunity to drive the game forward in a generation.

| On the WC website the Cardiff and Wembley games show the sold out sections, but the final does not. It just does not allow certain elements to be clicked on.
So hard to judge.

| Quote Bull Mania="Bull Mania"Fully agreed! GF says play Eng/OZ at Hudda, this will be sold out and make RL a ticket in demand as people can't get hold of tickets. But we've been all selling out the Galpharm/DW/ and Kc for years. This hasn't had the effect he says it will.
Fact is Eng/OZ at galpharm screams small time to me. With it been held at MM it actually looks and feels like an actual event. When we played OZ at wembley, there were only 45k there, but it looked a million times better than it ever has done at the above stadiums'"
Got it in one, England-Australia at Hull, Hudds or Wigan feels run of the mill, whereas at Cardiff, Wembley, Old Trafford or the Etihad it feels like a special event and more turn out.
I think the organisers have largely got the venues right, and the ticket sales so far are promising.

25% of cat 1 99 pound seating sold out
Have to say I am very impressed with the RLWC website, very well done.'"
Those figures are out of date now; the website hasn't been updated with 'sold out' areas for a bit as hasn't Wembley and all the locations:
Cat 1 tickets - only small corner areas available in decent numbers
Cat 2 tickets - only small corner areas available in decent numbers
Cat 3 tickets - Loads available (MISSING A ROW OUT AFTER EACH SOLD SO WILL LOOK BETTER ON TV IF NOT SOLD OUT)
Cat 4 tickets - sold out (bar individuals)
Cat 5 tickets - sold out (bar individuals)
Cat 6 tickets - 3 x sections sold up to back row (missing even number rows) plus 3 x rows sold up to row 25 (THIS WILL LOOK FULL ON TV)
Cat 7 tickets - Selling well with some rows sold up to row 29 (again missing out even number rows) (THIS WILL LOOK FULL ON TV IF SALES CONTINUE)
If they sell 55,000 - 60,000, it'll look a very good crowd on TV even if not actually full.

| Just so that people are aware it seems that the "100days" promo code is still working when purchasing tickets.
Have purchased 2 tickets for each of the New Zealand v Samoa, Australia v Fiji and the Quarter Final at the Halliwell Jones. Total spend £30.00 + £2.50 postage.
£5.00 per ticket !!!!!!!!! ...... I appreciate that these are the cheapest tickets ( ie on the terracing behind the sticks at the HJ and at Langtree Park but at these prices it would be rude not to attend.

| I have done almost exactly the same tonight - 2 x tickets for both HJ games and the game at Rochdale - £32.50 for 6 tickets. Unbelievable value!
Regarding the game at Rochdale, I could only get 2 tickets for the standing terrace. It now won't allow me to select it, so presumably that end is now sold out. Can only select literally 1 ticket in the main stand too, looking good there.
Hopefully now that the domestic season is coming to a conclusion, fans will start planning their WC games.

You are spot on there. It would be huge and should generate an open top bus parade in Leeds or Manchester at the very least. We will have to see if a visit to the palace ensues.
It should at least give Sky pause for thought on their refusal to televise the tournament and maybe bring them on board for the next one of the four nations.
If the final and many of the other games are full of flowing rugby and top class tries and the other lot at Twickers have a penaltython and scrum orgy for their games at the same time and lose to boot, it will be a massive opportunity for the game to seize the public's attention.
As you say though, it's unlikely that England will win but I live in hope.

When England RU won their world cup, it did wonders for that sport's profile. But, notwithstanding the natural advantage of their ra-ra mates in the media, you can bet that the RFU had a bunch of talented marketing professionals lined up making sure that every possible advantage was squeezed out of the opportunity presented by the England win. Whilst an England win in the RLWC will get reasonably good media PR on its own, one thing we can be pretty sure of is that the RFL will not have the slightest clue how to best take advantage. They're just not up to standard, simple as that. In the event of a win, what we'll see is the best coverage for years, but also that it'll be a very short-lived increase in profile relative the impact seen when England RU won ( banging on about it for years afterwards ). We'll blame 'media bias' - which is partially correct, but also a convenient excuse for the RFL's utter cluelessness in marketing. I hope the "what if England win?" PR plan is in place and includes more than a list of press releases telling us what a great governing body the RFL is

That's not going to happen. Sky have been reducing their RL portfolio for several years now. No NRL coverage, no Championship coverage, no international coverage.
[url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/news/article/27451/rlwc2013-comes-to-the-bbc“BBC Sport has extended its commitment to Rugby League with broadcast rights confirmed for the Four Nations in 2014 and 2016, and the World Cup in 2017 to add to our current coverage of the Challenge Cup and Super League.”[/url
Good news too. Sky have been killing international RL with their joke coverage and kick off times at 6pm on a Saturday evening in the past. What next if Sky had the TV rights? Thursday night test matches? Pffft.
Good riddance to Sky. Let them concentrate on screwing over their own SL product instead.

Exactly!
Better that 4 million are watching on terrestrial tv during a prime TV Saturday afternoon slot at 3pm rather than a mere 150k watching on Sky Sports at 8pm on a Thursday night.

The sales for Wembley look really impressive so far. Looking at that graphic you'd have to think that we've shifted 35-40,000 already and if the team gets off to an impressive start in Cardiff we really could be looking at a huge crowd for that one.
More seats opened up for Old Tafford also and it looks like the who Boton tier is sold out.
No update on the Cardiff graphic though. Hope that isn't a bad sign.
Looking really good overall though.

And that's a bad thing? Guaranteed money. The game is skint.
You'd be complaining if it wasn't making money, just like you was complaining that having it on Premier Sports has stopped it attracting a headline sponsor (how many other sports' World Cups have a headline sponsor?). You can't win.

If you don't think it should be brought into the debate, there's the point in debating it. You're hardly innocent of dragging union into debates where not necessary though, so why complain about that as well?
