| Saddened has a point. Don't understand Tomkins logic of dragging the game into disrepute when his team is running away with the match. And how come the refs always seem to let him get away with EVERYTHING, including shouting in their faces?

Oh, and I stayed right to the awful, bitter end tonight FWIW
And completely agree on the point on Tomkins, awesome tonight and carried more threat than our 17 put together - but why spoil it with that challenge on JJB? Thought those house tactics had departed the Wigan team with Maguire....

| Quote ="Saddened!"Leeds' petulance is understandable. They are a struggling team and were getting battered. Their indiscretions were also (mostly) picked up by the referee or caused by a well known numpty in Bailey.
Tomkins' behaviour was just very odd from the start. He's playing really well, so why does he need to descend to those levels? What was the point for example of his unnecessary involvement on JJB that put the player in such a horrible position? Why did he feel the need to do that? If that act caused a serious knee injury to the Leeds player, which it could very easily have done, would Wane be happy if his best player was sitting out several weeks?
He's a world class player who is in danger of letting himself down because he can't help himself. He had done well in sorting the petulant side of his game out until today.'"
Him kicking out was daft (but provoked, not that that excuses it), but I don't see what he did wrong in the tackle you mention. He didn't come in at the side of the knee, he came in at the back to complete the tackle. It was him that bent the player over on top.
One player I'm sick of and hope he doesn't get another SL club is Brent Webb. He can't get involved in the game without niggling. He's a massive penalty machine and a liability.

Probably a response to several chicken-wing tackles he's copped from JJB in the past.

| As good as Wigan were (and they were very good). Leeds wouldn't have beaten anyside in the league tonight, yes I include Widnes and Cas. They were terrible. As badd as I've seen from them at Headingley in the 21st century. They just sat back and and let Wigan play. Plus they sisn't have any idea what to do when attacking.
They look like a side who's gone as far as they can. Time to make some changes.

Within 10 minutes Leeds had been penalised for sliding in with the knees. If Tomkins had done it there would have been threads calling for nothing less than for him to be exiled form SL. Nothing to do with Leeds struggling, it's how they have always played and how they play regardless of the score in any specific game. And if kicking someone in the face hasn't got the potential to cause injury I don't know what has. The fact that people are up in arms about one potential injury but are happy with plenty of others speaks volumes about their so-called concern.

Its called 100% passion and commitment to the teams cause.
Something you probably dont understand as a Skints fan just now.
And lets be honest, even as a career 'wigan-hater' i bet you'd happily swap 10 of your first 13 to have Sam Tomkins attired in the Red Vee.

I don't hate Wigan. I think Tomkins is a great player. If you can delay his move to your business partners till he's 30 I've no doubt he'll become the best British fullback ever. But what he did to JJB was still very dangerous and very deliberate.

| Webb is the WORST full-back in Super League, and thats no exaggeration. Offers nothing going forward (apart from a bulleted forward pass when joining the line) and, as has been noted on this thread previously, is an absolute disciplinary disaster. I can't remember him being effective since his first season in SL. Surely no coach in their right mind will pick him up for next season. Leeds would look immeasureably better with a reliable old stager like Shaun Briscoe at the back. Or even Michael Platt. Thats how bad Webb is.

Hyperbole much?
I agree, he's getting to be a bit of a liability now, but it's wrong to say he was only effective in his first year in Super League. He's been a good player for us.

He's obviously not as bad a fullback as you are a judge of the game.

| Whetever Tomkins did last night, as usual Bailey and Webb were the two biggest nigglers on the pitch, Bailey's face rub near the end of the first half being typical stupidity and handing Wigan a try on a plate. Very impressive performance from Wigan who continue to be the best side in SL this year.

Reckless and stupid is how I would describe Lee Smith kicking Finch in the face. It's also how I'd describe LMS kicking up into McIllorum's face last week. Interestingly these things are only an issue when a certain Wigan player is the culprit.

| Leeds are going the same way under Brian McDermott as we did in London, only they've got furthur to fall. As far as I could make out their main tactic was to try to get a Wigan player (preferably Sam Tompkins) so riled that he'd be sent off. Happily Child, who in my opinion had a decent game in difficult circumstances, wasn't having any of it!

Obviously thats the case,
Especially as Leeds are the heavenly choir of angels mande manifest in RL and can do no wrong.
Ever. Fact
Still, going over tackles is all they can do right now, not all that much else they did last night.
Impressive Wigan performance. I feel stupid for thinking that we would just scrape a win by a try or so lol.

You do realise that when Smith kicked out, he did so because he had just been caught with a pretty poor swinging arm from Carmont, which to Smith would have been no different to a punch in the face and then done over in the tackle dont you?

Oh well when you put it like that, kicking someone in the face who has done nothing seems perfectly reasonable.

Or taking a blow to the face, then having your face done over whilst prone on the floor is probably going to make you do everything you can to get out of that position, including using the leverage of your legs.
But no, you are right, we should definitely castigate the player who got punched in the face then a facial in the tackle for kicking a player he had no way of seeing, and not those who punched him or gave him a facial in the tackle.

Kicking your legs into thin air offers no leverage, but even if we pretend for a second that it does, it's still the player's responsibility to do so safely. If it results in kicking another player in the face you have acted recklessly at best.

Should we criticise players who kick other players in the face? Damn right we should! Stop making a fool of yourself! If you "have no idea" whose face is near your feet, you don't kick them!
