| Group C will probably be the best in the tournament. Too bad half of it is hidden away in Cumbria.

I don't see why not. I'm sure that the ARL try to have some rule about if you play Origin you are automatically delcared for Australia, but I doubt the RLIF will see it like that, considering the World Cup is their sanctioned competition.
McManus has already said he wants to play for Scotland in the World Cup. If he is not able to, simply because he got picked for Origin, then that is ridiculous, especially as he was actually born in Scotland and isn't just eligible because of parents/grandparents....

When Hayne got injured in the first origin game Minichiello was suggested as a replacement. Minichiello, would have had to declare himself available for Australia to play State of Origin. If he did that, he would then have to wait two years - under the International Rugby League guidelines - before returning to represent Italy.
I'm guessing the same rules applied for McManus.

| That would effect quite a few players, does this mean Hayne & Uate can't play for Fiji now?

It's a joke. State of Origin is governed by the NRL and the ARL, it shouldn't fall under International Rugby League guidelines. If it was another country, then yes that's fine, but playing Origin shouldn't make you automatically be declared for Australia, that is just ridiculous.

I agree. It should be an International Federation decision.

| As far as I'm aware, you have to declare for Australia if you want to play Origin, but Origin matches mean sod all to your international eligibility. So McManus should be fine as he hasn't played for Australia.
Uate either broke the rules, or has locked himself into Australia now... I think any of the ones that have only played for one nation since 08 can switch from this point too? I'll defer as I haven't looked at the rules for quite a while..
EDIT:
Just from this thread we could be looking at
1. R.Horne
2. Robertson
3. Wardle
4. Linnett
5. McManus
6. Brough
7. Wallace
8. Galloway
9. I.Henderson
10. A.Walker
11. Ferguson
12. Patterson
13. G.Horne
14. J.Walker
15. Lovegrove
16. Gilmore
17. Clarke
Russell, A.Henderson, Hood...

Minichiello could happily have claimed to have switched to Australia in order to gain Origin selection and then played for Italy, and there's nothing anyone could have done about it. Obviously the NRL official isn't going to say that, but there's no documentation so the players can do whatever they like as long as they don't represent more than one nation. Hayne played Origin in 2008 and then for Fiji in the World Cup. There's a good chance he might do so again this year.

| Steve McNamara is going to have to take a long hard look at himself after this WC. Brough should be nowhere near the Scotland squad and should be England's first choice HB. Absolute madness I'm sorry.

Or just realise that it happens in EVERY SPORT, it's just we dwell on it so much.
We whine when International RL is uncompetitive and we can't sell it, now it is competitive and we can we moan about the reasons (perfectly legal ones) that it is.

| I see the odd player in other sports representing other countries and usually they are living and playing that sport in that country. In RL it is virtually the whole team and they have rarely stepped foot in the country let alone played RL there, very different, especially as RL is hardly played in these countries like Scotland and Italy.

A bit of joke like the Irish soccer team was under Jack Charlton. Lets hope there is a Scottish side at least playing in Championship 1 for the 2015 Then at least can say that the plastic Jocks got Rugby League moving in Scotland in the right direction.

| And if that was the motivation for putting these false teams together, to generate interest and act as a springboard for the development of the game in that country, then fair enough. Sadly I see little of that being the case and more interested in trying to form enough competitive teams to put on a world cup.
