As others have said the atmosphere at the old Wembley stadium was far superior to the new one

This one (1953).
www.britishpathe.com/video/wembl ... field-v-st
Overnight coachload of Liverpool City supporters (yes, there were enough to fill a coach), pre-motorways, probably reached London at about 8.00 a.m., then slept through a city tour on the coach.
Didn't see another until Sheffield v Wigan in 1998.

| Quote ="King Street Cat"Absolutely. Despite it's age there was nothing quite like the old Wembley. As an 11 year old at that final, my Dad watched me walk through to the seats and said my mouth just fell open, I could barely see across to the other side. The new Wembley just feels like everything does these days; overly corporate and lacking a certain je ne sais quoi.'"

| 1994 Leeds v Wigan. First time Leeds had reached the final in my lifetime. Even though we lost, still enjoyed the day as we didn't disgrace ourselves (unlike the year after when we never turned up)

| 1984 Widnes v Wigan. Poor game lit up but a great Joe Lydon try. Sat at the back on the old wooden plank seats near the top.
Complete contrast to the following year, which as a neutral was brilliant (although I still have no idea why Hull played Schofield of the bench).

I don't miss the old Wembley, it was a dump, nor do I like the new soulless stadium.

| 1973 Featherstone v Bradford. Massive disappointment for me as Bradford never got going after an impressive run to the final. As an 11 year old I was almost awestruck with the old Wembley.
Although I went to a few other finals in between, the next time Bradford got there in 1996 I was unimpressed with the cramped, urine-smelling obsolete facilities (and Nathan Graham's catching ability)!

| 1973 Fev v Bradford. I went on to work down t'pit and over the years ended up getting to know half the Fev team from that day and a couple of the Bradford lads too. Also worked with some of the 1983 winning Fev team and loads of other players from those days.

| Despite the 30-8 scoreline that favoured St Helens, the magnificent try scored by Catalans winger Younes Khattabi in 2007 will go down in the annals of history as the first ever scored at Wembley by a Muslim and an Arab. Moreover it was played in front of a magnificent crowd of 84,241, in bright sunshine. The event was overwhelming in its significance.
