That applause was spontaneous - a celebration of an extraordinary man and of his bravery. And in being celebratory, entirely respectful.

Reading how many people responded to it by being very moved, it has not been universally seen in that manner, but for some, as I described.

Obviously people may feel differently, but I suggest that we leave that for a discussion elsewhere and not on this thread.

Whilst I think personally a minutes silence is better than applause I wouldn't for a second say what happened today was in any way disrespectful. People felt like applauding the guy and his life......I'd say that was pretty respectful IMO.

Very moving, the minutes silence started,but the spontaneous applause was exactly that - the vast majority of supporters who were there (including me) joined in.

There are fictitious super heroes like Batman, Superman and Spider man, but Steve Prescott is a real life Super Hero IMO

Although he lived a very relative short life, he certainly had a good one and he will be sorely missed by the Rugby League family

Steve also went out on his own terms too by showing great courage and Determination by helping other great charity causes before taking self pity into consideration despite his debilitating illness

rugby league has lost a true legend today, not for what he did on the field, he was a pretty good player though, but will be remembered for what he did off the field, a true ambassador to our game and an inspiration to many

I had no idea he had died until they announced there would be a minutes silence.....it was like a bolt through my heart. A hero to me and many others, and the news brought a tear to my eye. I joined in the applause, because I think he deserves it.

Truly sad day. They really don't make many like him who face adversity and do true battle with it. Everything that has been said about him is spot on - Inspiration - legend - genuine good guy.

Great in Ireland tonight applause then a minutes silence. The Man of Steel must bear this man's name.

The issue I have with renaming the Man of Steel award is that there are legendary players who do not have an award named after them. Naming an award for the person in Rl who does the most in the community or for charity would be a fitting use of his name.

Life really isn't fair.
Besides his illness lets not forget just what a good player he was, Super League champion and Challenge Cup winner, Wembley try scorer, good attacking full back.

I think Man of Steel is very fitting for him, because his bravery in the face of his illness was truly inspiring and he was a man of steel, RIP Steve.

A true hero both on and off the pitch. I was privileged enough to get to watch him play in the black and white and also to meet him in person.

I hope they rename the award but even of they don't his legacy is such that he won't be forgotten for a long time.
