| OK there was some sort of a process to pick the group, but no bronze has yet been chiselled (if that's what you do), so if those who are unhappy about the choice think enough people agree with them, there is plenty of time to make representations. If 100,000 signed a petition or something - say, eg., to include Hanley, or someone from Yorkshire - I'm certain the RFL would listen. Wouldn't think there would be much support myself, but if you don't like it and think you are in the majority, don't whinge about it, do something!

| Would have been nice to have Don Fox in there, possibly the most iconic image of a challenge cup final (especially to non RL fans) But hey ho, I'm just pleased that the sport has got a statue there at all. The RFL aren't all that incompetent after all.

| I must admit that I am disappointed. A group should be a natural group of contemporaries - either opponents - like one tackling the other other; or team mates. I would have favoured something like Vince Karalius and Alan Prescott chairing Alex Murphy on their shoulders (if that ever happened!). If there was to be a group of great players then Neil Fox from various eras should have been in it. Offiah deserves his place -a look at the all time try scoring list shows that.

Edwards or Hanley over Offiah.

| Cannot understand why Vince Karalius was not included, because:
Wembley-wise - I think he won the cup with Saints twice; he captained Widnes to cup final victory; he coached Widnes to cup final victory in both his spells as coach. His first spells as coach set in motion golden eras, his first coming when the club was at a very low ebb.
Otherwise - his distinctive, craggy features were for many the very face of Rugby League and the personifcation of it; he was widely respected and feared in the game - especially in Australia where throughout my lifetime they have had an understanding of the game that is simply not matched here; as little more than a toddler I recall how big a deal it was when he joined Widnes from Saints and back in those days the big names of British RL that I recall were Boston, Karalius and Murphy (and probably in that order). If Alex gets his place, so should his mate Vince.
The issue is fans have recent memories as more current fans will have watched recent players than older players and so vote for those they've seen or those who they have heard about and seen on old TV footage.

Not sure why. Edwards was a player I really liked but if I was building a British team of that era to beat the best I could find someone who could do a solid job in place of Edwards but no one to remotely match Offiah. Pace is a key attribute in RL. Hanley - as for Edawrds.

| West of the Pennines has always been the topdog when it comes to Rugby League in this country...and no Yorkshire representation on this statue ultimately proves it.

| Hanley at the very worst is the best player of the 80s and 90s era
Arguably the best across all eras
Just an opinion

In fact, you can narrow that to Wigan, St Helens, Widnes and to a lesser extent Warrington.

Hackney is 0.28 degrees further EAST than the centre of Hull, so relatively speaking yes Offiah was born quite a few miles East of the Pennines. You might want to give your Geography teacher a slap as they clearly taught you nowt, relatively speaking of course

Doesn't matter in the sense of absolutes when we are talking about East West rather than North/South comparison with regard to the original statement. Hackney is farther East than where the Pennines lie geographically, if you'd care to counter that statement..crack on, it will make interesting reading

| Its great news that there'll be a RL statue at Wembley. I think the decision to have the 5 players incorporated in the design to capture the spirit of Rugby League is perfect.

It is both South and East of the Pennines, see your geography aint all that is it fella if you had bothered to read the original statement in absolute terms Offiah was born Eastwards of the Pennines as well as being more Southerly
Okay, just to make it easy for you to grasp, think of this, Warrington is geographically 'further' South than Leeds, Widnes even more so, they are both more Southerly AND Westwards geographically of Leeds. Comprenez?
You cannot change the lines of longitude & where towns lie just for your own convenience/arguement

Neil Fox was an even better player. And pleasant with it. And a Lance Todd Trophy Winner (1962) I can't believe Offiah's included and Big Neil isn't.

isn't it just otherwise there would be real cause for alarm sailing a boat doesn't give you any qualification for knowing where you are going or how the East/West thing works...just saying
All joking aside the slight Lancashire bias in the choosing of the players for the statue I don't agree with personally, not because any of the players don't deserve to be there (Offiah aside) but because I don't feel it can truly represents RL as a whole as there are far too many facets of the game to cover.
As I said up thread, a statue of 2 players (or more) in contact/action as it were would be better, something that grabs an essence of what the game is about rather than showing actual players.
that way it appeals to all fans no matter where you come from or who you support.

Like if they decided to erect a statue outside Twickenham of a winger stood looking bored, and a spectator eating a prawn sandwich?
