| True. But I think it's worth giving it a go. And giving it a go means having a marketing office who have half a clue. I'm not sure the London club have ever had that. But they could, and the RFL have it in their interest to make sure they do.

Quite correct , for the ' Good of the game ' we Need a self sustaining London club , even if that means the RFL/SKY paying for it , as long as it's all out in the open

I agree with you about the after match party top class, me and the mrs always go in the bar after the game until chucking out time it really does add to the whole weekend away.
I haven't read through all 25 pages of the thread so maybe repeating someone elses post but going to our game every year down there we always look forward to the full weekend etc., but we always come away saying the same, its a great ground for rugby league but just too far out on a limb to attract casual supporters. If the ground was in central London on a tube line it would be far easier to pull in more people. Unfortunately there aren't many suitable locations that would be affordable for this purpose I reckon.

The only grounds that are easy to get to are well out of the price bracket........and the wendyballers moan about the state of the pitch after all our rolling mauls, contested scrums and 12 player rucks......
.......Put simply, the current ground is fine.....it's the marketing that's at fault.
Glad you like the afterparty sandy.......shame that not enough people get the chance to experience it.

Shouldn't that read the 'smallest' after party in Superleague?
With the amount of supporters that turn up the catering bill must come in at well under £5
So if the Harlequins after match party is so good why does hardly anyone go along?

you really are a bell. you contribute nothing to the forum and you have absolutely no clue about rugby league in the south, and for that matter, in the north. crowds in london are bad. its fact. not every side can have 15k at every game, but to constantly harp on about it without any clue about the more subtle reasons of why this happens is parochial at best. as much as gf has moaned about marketing (i agree with what he says 100% btw) it is a fundamental problem. the ground is superb. the people who go down to quins on a match day are knowledgeable and passionate about their team and the sport. the hospitality after the game is as good as i've known at any super league ground, probably any sporting ground. the numbers playing the game are increasing. the recognition of rugby league is slowly coming. the amateur and student games are thriving. even skolars are improving. just because it doesn't happen over night, doesn't mean it won't. the attendance wasn't good, no. the game itself was. everything other than the crowd was, bar the press coverage of it down here. it needs to be addressed, no doubt but to say that rugby league in london is a failure is very, very wide of the mark

Monie was a big money flop for 2/3rds of a season.
TR was ok in parts and certainly got players up for games we should have lost, but also had the reverse applied and probably went a season to long.
Dan Staines.........hmm CC final aside not a lot to shout about, again for 2/3rds of a season.
Les Kiss, would have liked to have had Les for longer and see how he developed.

I don't know who to feel the most embarrassed for.
Leeds for getting beaten at home by a side like Harlequins or those Harlequins supporters that consider being top of the table after beating those 2 rugby league behemoths Catalans and Crusaders (and a Leeds side coached by possibly the worst coach on the planet) indicates that SL is a success in London

You don't half talk some garbage. Why can't the quins fans be happy for being top of the league? Fair play to them I say. Leeds are one of the 'big four' and quins are one of the wooden spoon favourites. As many English players as any team I'd say other than wakey and a young coach who looks organised and driven. Well done quins. Looking forward to watching them on sky next week.

Thats sounds like your hating and just trolling. Quins are 3 wins from 3 so there fans have every right to be over the moon right now. Also I dont think Quins fans see the results of the 1st team as the be all and end all of success in Rugby League. They are smarter then you give them credit for.
Quins success or failure is judged on much more then the 1st team dude.

The Oxford English dictionary defines the word 'Success' as follows.
[i Pronunciation:/səkˈsɛs/
[uThe accomplishment of an aim or purpose:[/u
ie 'the president had some success in restoring confidence'
[uThe attainment of fame, wealth, or social status:[/u
ie 'the success of the play brought fame to the leading actor'
[/i
You feel 'London' (thereby meaning London Broncos and Harlequins RL) have been a 'success' during the Superleague era. You must have a very different definition of the word in New Zealand.
During the SL era all a London franchise has achieved is playing in a Challenge cup final...where if my memory serves me correctly the London Broncos were hammered by Leeds by about 50 points.
The club are best known for their lack of fans, moving around London from ground to ground, changing their name many times, having to ground share with a Union side (also borrowing their name and hideous shirt design)and having the business accumen of a retarded child poking itself in the eye with a stick.
As you well know the RFL have been trying the idea of RL out in London since 1980. Since then we have seen sides named 'Fulham', 'London Crusaders' the 'London Broncos' and now 'Harlequins RL'.
Successful?
Nope.
It's good to see Harlequins on top of the superleague table tonight. Makes a change from seeing the usual names there.
But put it into perspective. All Quins have done is beaten 2 very ordinary teams (Fellow wooden spooners Crusaders and Catalans) and one who are ordinary because of the coach they have got. (Leeds)
Guess 'success' is measured differently depending on how you look at it.

| It's no wonder rl doesn't get a chance in London. Even when they are top of the league with a young english coach playing with an English team prats like you Phipps still rip into them. They can't win. If it was Leigh that was in their position the vt would be sick of me shouting about it.
