| I once remember Waine Pryce (I think) being awarded a try at Headingley for Cas without the assistance of the video ref. When they showed the replay, he clearly dropped it from about 3 or 4 feet in the air.

| Quote ="vastman"Possibly the worst decision ever recorded was when Colin Winfied ?? awarded Bradford’s winger a try. This was pre SL 1990s so no 4th official or VR but when photos were printed next day and it may also have been on Scrumdown he’d grounded it 3 feet short - yes 3 feet!
Not sure how crucial a score it was but the ref was unfit and unable to keep up with play whilst the linesman was clearly blind!!!!
This was ore Bulls so Bradford were a nowt team at the time for printers benefit. Just pure technical incompetence.'"
Robin Whitfield?
Colin played for us early 80's before moving to Halifax. Luckily we never had Robin reffing in those days as they were brothers.

I seem to remember he moved into refereeing after breaking Derek Noonans jaw.

| One that stands out for me is a Challenge Cup Semi Final against Saints at Old Trafford, 1990 IIRC? Extremely tight game with nothing between the two teams. Into the last two minutes the score is level (potential replay looming in those days)? Hanley breaks through just inside the Saints half, rounds two with ease and has Goodway on his inside but running at least two yards in front of Hanley. Hanley puts a short pass to Goodway that was ridiculously forward who then goes under the posts to win the game and send us to Wembley again.

| Quote ="scarrie"Magic Weekend, I forget the year, vs Hull KR. Chris Green touches down for the winning try.
It goes to the VR, Steve Ganson, and it's immediately obvious Green is about 5m offside. Ganson looks again and again, each time it looks more and more offside. He looks a final time, it goes to the grounding and then he gives it. Unbelievable.'"

Was only young when that game took place.Just searched for the high lights and there is an Australian tv piece on the whole tour. That was some Queensland side and that punch was as fierce as any I've seen.

It's hard to say for sure from that angle, but Hanley is in front when he passes it, and stays in front when it's caught. It goes forward in relation to the ground of course, but that's irrelevant. Maybe forward looking at his hands, but not by miles. Those short ones are tough in real time. Mind you, I'm guessing the touch judge was well out of position, you can see him being very half-d earlier in the move. The ref has also turned his back!

Pass about a yard forward. What a game though. Get misty eyed watching RL of that quality.

Forward pass at the Magic weekend a few years back between Lomax and Meli that got us a draw.
Completely obvious and it was against Wigan. It felt great.

| As other Hull fans have already said, Green's try at Magic was she biggest mistake, especially with how many times Ganson actual looked at it.
But another big one was earlier this season against Saints at their ground when Logan broke free down the wing and threw a pass back inside that went at least 5 metres forward. How none of the officials picked this up us just unbelievable.

| Most recently, Adam O'Briens try against Cas last Thursday. It was never down. As soon as it went to the Video Ref I said it would be ruled out. But it was given and I had him a cheeky £5 at 40/1 on him for first try scorer....

The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike, Karen.
I wouldn’t blame Albert Kelly’s injury woes and Hull’s current dreadful form on heavenly retribution for events in April, would I? No, it’d be beneath me.
Dobson’s pass to Lovegrove, at Magic 2012, suggested Ganson had some issues with depth perception.
We scored an important try against Leigh in the qualifiers off a really, really scruffy ptb last year. There might have been a case for interference, but the play-on was strange.
I can’t even remember the game, and it didn’t effect the result, but me and the guy next to me did a shocked double take when a Craig Hall touchline conversion was awarded despite looking to have gone about 3 yards wide from where we were stood, a few years back.
I think there’s a story about a ball bouncing off the roof of a stand and back into play, in a Rovers cup game against Swinton, back in the 50s or something. I’ll see if I can dig it up. Can’t recall whether it favoured us.
Edit - i’ve either misrembered or made up the last. I might have been thinking of a challenge cup semi-final replay vs Oldham at Station Road, where we were saved by a controversial abandonment for bad light in extra time when smoke from a steam engine that had pulled into the nearby station blew across the pitch. Replays and steam engines - evocative of a different age, if nowt else.
Edit - the ball bouncing out of play (not necessarily on the roof of the stand, although I prefer that version ) was for Alex Murphy to score against us a couple of years later.

| The two worst calls I can remember Saints getting were in 2010. We received two tries awarded by the video ref against Salford and Crusaders away which were both clear drops.
We lost against Salford anyway, and beat Crusaders comfortably in the end, although it was close at the time.

One dodgy decision the year after another dodgy decision at the same event is one thing, a player's personal injury worries are another thing completely.

I accidentally stopped the video on 11 seconds & Hanley is still clearly in front on Goodway when he receives the ball.
