They have done well painting out the refuge tip at top of those plans along with the planned refuge incinerator. Just to the right you can just about see one sewage works. At the bottom (out of shot) just the other side of what used to be the world biggest navigable sewer there is another sewage works. It smells lovely round there.

| Just out of interest looking at those pictures from France , they seem to build stadia differently to us , they raise up the seats higher to give a better view , whereas we tend to have seats right down to pitch level , the only stands like that over here that I can think of is the one at New Craven Park , and a stand at Ashton Gate , Bristol

The two permanent stands at Hamilton Academical are above pitch level. In fact, it'd make a great venue for Scotland RL games.
The front row at the Reebok is also above pitch level by the way, but that was to allow for capacity increases rather than a better view. Certainly nowt close to how much higher some of the French grounds are though (great for hanging flags as well!)

Aye, because putting local government money into developing professional rugby league isn't going to come back into the community economy in the future.

Ok, here's what a council (and anyone with common sense) sees.
If they invest £xm now, the long term stability of this SL Franchise will bring in £xm over anything from 3 -> infinite years. Shall we invest?
The answer is, they'd be f***ing stupid not to.

That is probably what our council thought when asked to underwrite the LSV , they probably looked around , saw all these old decrepid stadiums , listened to the RFL stating that the licencing proccess would be done fairly , and thought , if we build this they will put us in SL
Problem is the council obviously dont know that Red Hall is full of bull sh17

Starbug, you know very well that the issue of franchising hadn't even been raised when your council decided to invest in LSV. Are you ever going to lose the chip on your shoulder?

| Just in case you couldn't be bothered to check Mr Charnock:-
FYI
Quote The RFL's in-house lawyer, Rod Findlay, explained, "The basis for the licensing process was established in May 2005 when the RFL, in full consultation with member clubs, drew up a strategy document for Super League which basically said 'This is what we want the league to look like and this is what we want the clubs to look like,'".[5 Findlay continued, "The document concluded that the competition should be expanded to 14 clubs and said it was not felt the heartland would be able to sustain that number of Super League clubs. We do not have 14 clubs who satisfy all the Super League strategy aims. The board needs to decide whether those clubs that are not currently satisfying the aims can satisfy them in the future."[5
Commenting on the implementation of three year licence cycles, the RFL's Chief Executive Nigel Wood stated, "We hope to capture all of the advantages of a closed competition like the NRL without the disadvantages of having perennial under-performers that sometimes you get in a closed competition." [6

No. The problem is that the council didn't realise that the stadium was only one of a number of criteria by which the applications were judged.
