There was a few more of us than that! I thought there was more people at the Stoop last Sunday than at last years corresponding televised fixture. The Crusaders fans were in the main stand with the Quinn's fans that day. But what do I know

Anyway, back to the actual point and post in question....allowed myself to get taken off course by a couple of pointless replies there! ..... London is vital on many levels to RL...Quins may not be the right place, but there isn't room in London to house a team in a good stadium or to build a new one. That's the problem they face....as such whilst staying in one location no more than a decade (at most) they haven't been able to build a community or large following....just a few thousand loyal fans who'll follow all over the city.'"
I always thought that the reason the London club had moved and changed its identity so many times was because it had been an abject failure wherever it went & whatever it was called. Now I discover the reason for its failure is because its had to move so many times.
Well its one way of looking at it I suppose.

Really
I know we had trouble in 2005 (but broke no RFL/SL rules) but over all, other than attracting fans, the club has done pretty well given the various owners who were under the impression they had bought into a golden goose (Branson being one of them).
I mean, in SL terms, we have finished 2nd, then 5th and 6th to qualify for the play-offs, have now seen young Londoners capped for England, signed by Saints, score 4 tries in a match.....THE CLUB IS 100% totally debt free, we play in a rented stadium like the current SL champions do, we have never been relegated....all pretty positive.....but you reckon this is an example of abject failure do you
....if you'd said failure to attract fans, I would have agreed with you. But you didn't....you generalise which is a trait of the flat earth society IMO.

What they have failed to achieve is any prospects of genuine sustainability , something all clubs should have quite high on their agenda , if they are to progress

...that I agree with.
As I have said elsewhere...if it is true that DH will only bankroll us for a further 3 years then we have 38 home games left to get our crowd average from 3,400 to 8,000. If we don't, or if we don't find another benefactor with the patience of a saint and loads of money, then I suspect a licence in 2014's allocation process may be not worth applying for.

In all seriousness though GF, we all know full well that Fulcrubronquins wil never, EVER be kicked out of SL. If your owner / chairman ever did bail out, the RFL would find some way to secure your future (like they did with Crusaders). Your franchise is safe till the end of time GF. *
* It shouln't be mind - I'd kick you out and Keep Wakefield in, but that's me.

Yea we did move because of failings...but due to costs (fecking high ground and property rental rates in the city) and the competition for spectators that I've previously mentioned..we didn't have enough time to stay put and build a following. I don't think the London team have stayed more than 10 years (and it's probably less) in one location...I can't imagine teams like Castleford, Leeds etc had a 8-10k regular fan base within 10 years of starting the club - and thats in a RL hotbed.

for that game I counted four Crusaders fans btw
for the first SL home game v Wakey I counted 9 Wakey fans which would suggest that from an official crowd of 7170 ish that most of ther fans were Catalan fans with maybe a few dozen neutrals like me thrown in.The crowd limit at the moment is about 8000 due to ground improvements etc.
An even 'semi-successful' Catalans outfit would average between 9000 & 12000 fans no bother.

| The pattern of support in Super League is that if you win you start attracting more supporters. There are time differentials between teams i.e. normally successful teams increase support faster when they improve after a fall off because they usually have a larger fan base built up over a period of sustained success. Harlequins RL need a period of sustained success to increase their support. They've started well so far and now have a trip to Leeds to further that cause...

Isnt that the purpose of the SC which Chelsea dont have
Spend 1.6 million with 1,700 fans, spend 1.6 million with 20000 fans you dont think will make the books look a little better-hmmm

| An interesting addition would be how many of the total number of fans at heartland clubs attendence figures are away fans at each match? With many teams being close together and not having to drive for hours for an away match...this would surely build up attendance figures? London isn't going to attract that many visiting fans...possibly a couple of coaches if that.
It's not an easy proposition for the management at Quins...they have to get the RL message out and get infront of the other attractions...and also rely on more home support, as the away support is often deadful - admittedly not as bad as Quins away support...but 200 miles each way every other weekend isn't exactly cheap or easy for them.

i'll tell you now, at all but 2 or 3 home games (at most) each season at least 95% of those at Widnes games are widnes supporters.
