| I'm not that convinced that selling cheap tickets to big venues would get us big crowds anyway. All it would do is see supporters spending similar amounts of money as they would to a regular game but with less of that going to the RFL.
To use the very first example of Leeds playing at Wembley: Even if I got a free ticket to Wembley, the cost of fuel, parking, tube, possible accommodation and ancillary spending (food, drink etc) would far outweigh what it would cost me to go to a game at Headingley, with none of that spending going to either Leeds, Quins or the RFL. I appreciate that this isn't necessarily the point of such an idea but lets face it, the typical RL supporters reaction to any new idea is "How much will this cost? Don't the RFL realise that most fans haven't had two shillings to rub together since t'pit shut?"

| Do this for CC semi finals, Eastlands, Anfield, Elland Rd are about the right size just pick the most suitable location for the 2 teams involved.

| Everyone seems to forget that Huddersfield did a free game and only just over 12,000 bothered to turn up.
And what makes everyone thinks that a major soccer ground wants a RL match on it. The smaller teams yes but not the likes of Arsenal.
The NFL game did sell out but how many came from London not that many. London was a wash of Americans and Germans who love NFL.

Not everybody , just the ones without a modicum of sense
A totally stupid idea , lets work out how to actually get the people from the towns where we have teams into the stadiums that the clubs actually play at first

| Quote ="Jeff the God of Biscuits"Wigan vs Saints at one of the big Manchester/Liverpool grounds would work IMO. Maybe with a curtain raiser? a Salford vs Warrington match maybe? or Widnes vs Leigh? £5 flat rate for tickets would see a sellout and a great advert for our game.'"
Interesting idea this from the original poster, difference with the Magic Weekend is that the game is on the doorstep.
On the Saints Wigan idea too, this discussion is timely.
Saints announced today that they would move into new Stadium mid-2011, last game at KR being this season.
Hence, they have already confirmed that some home fixtures early 2011 would be played on the road.
Should the fixtures work out, and an early Saints Wigan game (or if they are still not housed by Easter bank holiday), this may be an ideal opportunity to look at either Anfield or perhaps Goodison.

moving the Grand Final to the Emirates Stadium is definately under consideration by the RFL.

hopefully this will happen - the first game of 2011, at Anfield playing someone like Warrington or Wigan. I reckon we could get over 30k if it was marketed properly (which I dont think it would be).

I'd love to see the magic weekend at the Emirates but not the Grand Final. It works at Old Trafford for so many reasons and has proved to be a huge success over the past 11 years.MInd you,if something is a success and established the RFL are bound to change it!!!

| I can't see Old Trafford being used, Fergie already gets a bee in his bonnet after every Grand Final, a regular game there might just finish him off. On second thoughts......

at the RFL fans forum I was at last week, there was a definate theme of questions about moving the Grand Final to the Emirates Stadium....clearly someone at the RFL has thought about it seriously enough to brief the research agency to ask those questions.

Lot easier to shift 60k tickets for a game in London than it would be to shift 75k tickets for a game in Cardiff. Fans of one side have only a week to buy tickets and sort out transport and hotels - both a lot easier to do in London. You can take the east coast mainline from Yorkshire and get off at the station that serves Emirates.
Can't see the GF being moved out of the north any time soon. If Old Trafford isn't available, the RFL would have to approach the Liverpool/Gtr Manchester/Leeds/Sheffield football clubs and see what deal they could get.

It will stay at OT. If it were to move it would go to Eastlands, Wembley or Elland Road as an absolute last resort.

So are Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool or Manchester Tourist Board going to offer £500k between them to host these games? I mean, I doubt it would boost their economy too much with most fans being able to get a bus to the ground and that!

| Also why does everyone keep going on about using Eastlands.
They are only allowed to use the ground for a certain amount of non Man City games. These are all taken up with concerts which make a few quid more than any RL game.

Because people come from far and wide for the game, not just the London area and tickets are balloted out through the internet. I think over 1 million people registered for a ticket for the game. I also noticed a lot of Europeans and Americans walking around the Stadium.

| we havent even half sold any of the magic weekends, with several games on offer for a very cheap price.why does anybody think a league game, even between the best two supported clubs in sl,could sell out a major stadium.
the wigan/leeds game did well last season, but not anywhere near enough to warrant moving to a large stadium(even in the heartlands)
we dont even bother with a wembley international anymore,so what chance would a standard league game have.
