| Saints have been the best team all year (except of course at Wembley). Most RL fans accept that. It's sad however, that a magnificent season has been tarnished by the unsporting behaviour of McManus.

Only because certain small minds chose to bring it up, a predictable preprepared response to a Saints win. Same people trying to whip up faux controversy at the refereeing. Proud of the chairman. An outstanding corporate citizen.
As for the acknowledgment Saints have been the best team its hardly a gesture of magnanimity. A record 16 points clear of second infers its a statement of the obvious.

| Yes the ref was poor but Saints deserved their victory their forwards were immense.A young British coach taking a Salford side to the Grand Final with players no S.L. side wanted is unheard of.No money poor attendances having to sell their top half back Lui to Leeds 2 months ago.Watson deserves his Great Britain call up he has learnt his trade of first Tony Smith when dual redg with Swinton then Tim Sheens at Salford. Now he goes to work under the greatest coach of all time Wayne Bennett this will benefit Salford next season.

Id give up la, you sound just as narrow minded as the ‘99%’ of Saints fans. Still you could try ‘I’m a neutral but’ or a (despite finishing 16 points clear) ‘Saints have been the best team’ to hide the inevitable petty and small minded gripe.

| Quote ="Saddened!"Kendall has been the best referee all season and he was superb tonight. He is consistent with his calls and his communication with the players is superb. Non-shouty, not condescending, just instructive. Some other referees would do well to watch his performance back and learn from aspects of it.
The calls the neutrals are getting all weird about are so minor. There was only one big call in the game, the decision to penalise Lolohea for obstruction. It was the correct decision, completely accidental but runs into his own player and stops Knowles tackling him, clearly obstructed, he wouldn't have scored had Tomkins not been there. I spotted a knock against Salford in the 49th minute that should have been penalised for a ball steal by Thompson. The two Naiqama tackles could have been penalised, but the touch judge didn't flag for either and it was right in front of him, so not sure how Kendall is supposed to give it from his position, i.e looking at Naiqama's back for the high shot. The decision against Dudson was a 50:50 as both could be penalised. He could and probably should have penalised Smith for not releasing him, and I'm sure he would have done had Dudson tried to play the ball with his foot. A more savvy player there would put the foot on it and get the penalty. But to note, Kendall gives exactly the same decision against LMS in an almost identical situation.
No major controversies at all and the best you lot can come up with is sweeping statements about bias with absolutely nothing to back it up.'"
I've never read such utter bollox since beware of shadows learnt to speak...jeez..saints get thumped Good style at Wembley and the refs crap..win at old Trafford and the ref is brilliant... Says it all really..bad losers

Hang on, are you two confusing me for a Warrington fan?
If their fans have been bad or whatever, that's terrible but irrelevant.
The only club which has, from the top, systematically slated a referee is St Helens. Hence the controversy about Hicks and about Kendall's calls last night.

| Yes ,well done Saints for the win & i just hope Salford can keep enough players for next season to build on & continue their resurgence.
I thought the Percival try was an excellent effort as was the Taia try from the scrum.

| It shouldn't be of any suprise fans of that joke club Wakefield are leading the protests about the referee yesterday on this thread. They're well practised in bleating about officials. It's all they're known for.
By contrast, the Salford fans have been well dignified in defeat. Whatever calls went in Saints favour I do reckon they had another gear in then had they needed to. I'm not keen on the wools, but they're worthy Champions.
Question is though, with top players moving on, can Salford remain highly competitive next season? The clubs which finished around them Wigan, Cas and Wire are not much to be feared so with some clever signings and a very shrewd operator in Ian Watson, they could well be in with a shout of getting to the GF again.

The Salford fans were a credit to the club. I felt the game needed a Saints/Wigan vs Salford final to break apathy. The question over how Salford would be supported was answered positively in an emphatic manner. A great atmosphere but equally laid back as well.
I think Salford will go ok next year; they’ve a good system and are very strong off the field. Hastings is a huge miss and a great signing by Wigan but Watson will keep them up there. Hopefully Salford will grow as a club as our sport needs to, I believe we’ve stagnated recently so all the more reason a ‘new’ team needed in the final.

| What a weird Thread.
As I see it, St Helens have been the #1 side in SLXXIV by an extremely large margin. The lost just 4 games out of 35 played across both competitions. The CC Final was an off day for them, the 2 losses to London were down to both a few missing players and London stepping up and the other loss was away to Catalan, who have a pretty good Home Record. Other than that, they beat everyone in front of them and finished 16 points ahead of 2nd place. They won the hubcap last year by 10 points. They have lost 5 of their last 52 SL regular season games, so whatever Wire or whatever other club want to say about their fans and referees etc, it's a pointless exercise to do anything other than hail them as the #1 team in terms of consistence in the last 24 months. They have featured in the last 4 major finals...has any other team achieved that in the Summer era?

Well you're half right. If the stat is corrected to reality rather than made up nonsense, then a few other sides have managed it! Including wire who made 3 of the last 4 despite not being the all conquering saints side which I'm sure you want to point out that your version of Wikipedia says have now just completed the double treble!!!They deserve the league leaders shields and also a major trophy, fact is they should have won more for their dominance.

I stand corrected on the point about the CC final 2018 but my point is still valid.
They were have been the most dominant force in domestic regular season games for 24 months and anyone who argues otherwise is being disingenuous. 5 Losses in 52 regular season games is pretty impressive....Wigan who finished 2nd twice lost 18!
