| Ref absolutely hammered us before the final decision all second half. Pinged us every time he had the opportunity around the ruck but they was allowed to mess around and flop on numerous occasions.
Smith looks like an international half he just needs to try and work a little on his physicality.
Watkins still needs work on his defence.
Charnley will be replaced by Joe Burgess in the England team in the next 12 months, he's struggled IMO.
Josh Hodgson just isn't international standard, Inglis walked last him in the second half, shocking!
I also think my opinion to bring Sarginson into the team earlier in this thread was fully justified and correct, well played.

You sound like you're trying to convince yourself.
He was outplayed in the second half when we needed him most. Not up to his opponent's standard.

Exactly my opinion. Whilst I believe it was a try, we just played one-out for 35 minutes of that second half. When we started to play in the last 5 minutes we started to trouble Australia. We can all whinge about the penalties and decisions not going our way, but the simple fact is we weren't good enough in that second half, even against a third string Australia team.

Yep.
When they brought Hunt on for Thaiday (I think) the game was there for us to regain control and smash them. Instead we allowed Can Smith to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

| Thought McNamara made a big error in taking Clark off. He was causing them problems ten he put on Hodgson who was poor in his first stint. Coaches seem obsessed with rotating hookers.
Agreed with above posts about Charnley. Put Burgess in.

For all Clark did - let's not forget he blew two tries. Possibly three if he'd reacted quicker to Burgess losing the ball (although I might be a bit harsh here).

You are taking the p1ss? Waited until 77 minutes before taking on the defence. Numerous kicks straight down an unopposed defenders throat. His defence is poor, he & Joel T were targeted all game. Nowhere near the required standard

Can't argue with that. His first half was excellent.

| Try for sure. We need to get over it as we have our toughest obstical to overcome next week.
If we don't learn how to cross the line and find ourselves
In a position where Ferres and Farrel are both taking kicks then we won't come close.
We have the team that can win. I thought we did well. Just need the coach to get some moves put together.
I think Widdop or Smith need to be used to be more vocal and get this side more controlled in our attack.
We missed a 'Sinfield'

It's an enormous task but if we beat the Kiwis by 10 points we'll finish above them and make the final.

Charnley made a game-losing high-bomb bust whilst fully fit.

| Cue another week of "this needs to change, x shouldn't be playing, y isn't good enough, z should move to a different position" etc.
I'd go with that same 17 again against NZ. One possible change would be to bring Whitehead in for either Ferres or Joel, but I don't think that would make too much of a difference. A couple of slight tactical changes I would make would be to start Hill and use George Burgess off the bench, and Clark needs to be on the field for longer.

Whilst I agree it's very hard when Australia are given penalties for not a lot on the fifth tackle, and we didn't get one all half with Australia having 3, 4 attempts at tackling us on the ground.
The scrum decision capped it off. He waited to see if Australia got the ball before deciding to do it again.

| Our line speed wasn't great again, the Aussies didn't have to work hard enough to get into our half and we didn't pressure their kicker enough. Our kicking game was decent from deep but our attacking kicks were poor. Smith is being criticised but for me it's Widdop that needs to do more. He's offering no threat and his kicks have been poor.

I'm not sure Charnley was fully fit. He didn't run at his normal speed and he had 2 high bombs in defence where he jumped way too early and hardly got of the ground.

Who are the best wingers then?
Didn't Greg Inglis drop the ball before Hall's try? He must offer nowt at this level either.
Those criticising Smith... what did Cronk do today?
I'm not purposely defending Wigan players but people need to have a closer look at our opposition before writing our lads off. These so called World class players were almost beaten by our "never international standard" players and were made to look average for 65 minutes.

I agree to an extent.i like Widdop his defence is sound he has a good kicking game but his decisions at times to day were poor and he does need to offer a little more in attack for sure.if that was Sinfield out there playing as Widdop did today he would have his own scapegoat thread 5 pages long by now.
Im sure he will be better next week though and i do rate the lad.

| While the ref was very poor in that game we still should have won the game. That is the worst Aussie side I have seen. Only glimpses of the style we have seen before unless we meet them in the final I cannot see us getting a better opportunity than that.

| Personally I wouldn't have given the try. But I don't think they were looking to give the try, they were looking at it to rob us of the GLDO.
Apart from that my biggest gripe about the reffing was the amount of times our 5th tackle kickers were getting hit/tackled well after they'd kicked the ball.
