Wellington Hurricanes frst 2 home games this season.....11,000 at each. The wendyballers of the pheonix had 24k 2 weeks ago and have sold all 35k for this week........and there's me thinking Rugby Union was a religion in New Zealand ....11,000 for a super 14 franchise in the CAPITAL of the country and they get owned 2 weeks running by the wendyball lot.

You just cant compare football to anything as its way more popular than any sport.!
Look as i say before i like both codes of rugby.
BUT
Union is way more popular across the globe played in more countries, more players and supporters. Ok you might get more fans in Oz but that becuase of its popularity its like baseball properly more fans of that in china and america than anywhere else in the world yet who gives a dam else where same with Ice Hockey in Amercia and canada.?
You cant compare what Jonathan Davies said etc as he came from an amteur back round in Union its totally different now i would say union players are more professional and expereinced these days as they play in so many different competitions and teams and tour lots of different countries.
You say union players never make it yet all the players from the late 80s early 90s from wales where good players, ellis, davies, quinell, gibbs, bateman, devereux etc
Yet RL converts have rarely done well but the exception of Robinson and Tuqri, harris did ok in flashes but was way to inconsistent and seemed to go missing in games(very strange as you seem to think RL players where fitter and more alert etc)
I like both sports but to say union players wont make it in SL is way off mark expecially the talented welsh and irish backs. As to be honest there aint many decent british backs in SL are there.... look at the wingers.... there aint much quality about is there.?
Im a beleiver that there are nataural gifted, good, average and poor players in both codes of rugby. And i see no reason why a talented back in Union cant do well in RL as the fact is RL is a far simpler game to. Where in Union there are far more things to think about and this is where the RL converts to union struggle with the technical side of things.

Wellington Hurricanes themselves will get over 30000 in a semi final play off game easy.
I checked Wellington Phoenix first 2 homes games they had 9k and 10k.

So what has boggerball got to do with it?
And if you must know, the NRL gets more people watching the game on TV out here than the boggerball.
And lastly, Convict creations is a union site, run by halfwits that post anything they hear in a pub conversation as fact.

| And to prove convict creations is a Union site, have a look at how many countries it has down that play RL..
5, yet a massive 5 countries play RL according to convict creations.
Have a look at the playing numbers, it has Union almost on par with RL in Australia.
FFS, it has AFL being played in 2 countries.
It's a piece of $$$$ site.

No sport can compete with soccer its world dominant unfortunatly.
You can say that about crowds at leeds(when in top flight) footy compared to rhinos. salford to Man U or man city. liverpool to wire/saints, urs/nal/west ham/reading to quins. you can do the same to all union compared to soccer you just cant compete.
i have googled NRL i thought this was a british site i thought you was on about Northern rail.

What's sokka got to do with this, we are talking Rugby, just because you haven't got a leg to stand on doesn't mean you can move the goal posts to suit your agenda.

Again, sokka has nothing to do with what I'm talking about, how about you start putting in the Rugby figures for each code then in those places you mentioned.

You know exactly what you are doing, because if you googled NRL, there is no way in the world Convict Creations would've come up first without you searching speciffically for it or going through at least 30 google pages for it to come up eventually.

| Any chance of discussing the thread topic?
I actually think the Thomas signing will be a very good move.
The Crusaders certainly know how to promote their club. Two good crowds for their first home game but Catalans at home in a televised clash would be their lowest crowd of the season. Unveil RU's leading Welsh cap Gareth Thomas at half time and presumably a sizable number will be added to the attendance.
Hopefully he can play a couple of games on loan at the Scorpions before his Crusaders debut allowing them to pull in a couple of big crowds and promoting South Wales RL as well as North Wales RL.
Then get him in the schools and promoting the game to all the youngsters in the Crusaders' catchment.
On the pitch I don't see an issue with him being 35. He's clearly still very fit, playing regularly for the Blues (17 of 22 games) and will be a very solid RL player. As long as expectations on the pitch are realistic (he's not going to be running hat tricks in every week) then I can't see the signing being anything other than a success.
Then the groundwork will have been done and he and the Crusaders will have shown that people can make the transition work. I see Noble has already cheekily started the groundwork with another Blue, Andy Powell.

| Quote ="Cronus"Perhaps at Union, but let your Union backline run at a good SL defence in a game of League and they'll get torn apart.
In EVERY cross-code challenge, the Union side has been torn to shreds in open play, and when they've won they've rucked, mauled and scrummed their way to victory.
I like Union (well, used to like it more before it turned to sht), but the sheer workrate of League players is something else. Union backs do naff all for most of the game. Running the line is nothing like fielding a kick and having to make ground into the opposition pack, or scooting from the first tackle into a fired-up League defence.
Shane Williams? Decent enough. Would get hurt in SL at the moment. Nippy. Destitute man's Jason Robinson.'"
This is just a load of crap, perpetuated by your average league fan. The backs in the guiness premiership poo all over the super duper league backs from a massive height. They are faster, stronger and far more skillful, because you see, league is going backwards. The game is just like a huge game of british bulldog where the fittest survive.
Gareth Thomas will tear it up in SL, even at the age of 36 and will be even more embarassment for our game

| The backs in English union are better athletes than the league guys. They get the first pick and a much bigger pool. They do ruin them though and a nice stint in league would sort them out
