So you think your ST money is good value when all it is doing is paying for Hastings and Hardaker to chuck teabags into cups from a distance?
I'd rather my money went towards buying another ventilator.

| Quote ="JonnyBroad"Would lose money because they would not get as much money in from season tickets if they reduced the cost by any missed games this year. By budget better do you mean buy a lesser quality of player? Which then gives people another stick to beat IFL with because he isnt signing top players? I just don't get why anyone who has already paid there money out months ago would ask for it back? Like i posted before i understand the ones paying on the drip might not want to continue there monthly payments but am pretty sure they will be legally bound to do so. I am sure the club will offer something back, personally if i was the club i would offer everyone a voucher for the shop, say £100 voucher, that way then the club don't lose as much but the fans gain something.'"
I too think the club will honour their obligations regarding season tickets, be it either the season gets finished (and im sure this is what the clubs will want, pie and pint money is important to them all after all) or price off next seasons ticket,Lenegan isn't a mug he knows when this hit that fans who haven't returned with two big signings won't come back if the club is seen to shortchange people things are going to get rough, and lets be fair it wasn't all rosy crowd wise before this mess.
As for signings I think we as fans are going to have to temper expectations for a few years and the reliance on the production line will be renewed with vigour but after the world starts to turn again big money players just won't be happening imo and that goes throughout the sport full stop, only football will escape this mess fairly unscathed in my opinions yes like it or not next season and the following few are going to be tough ones for the club and the sport, and you need fans onside to buy the merchandise, the pies and the pints.
But its going to be grim for a few years yet.

Is anything good value for money when you don’t get what you paid for? Why are you coming out terms that I haven’t even said?
And what the actual F are you expecting the players to do on lockdown? The money I paid towards my ST isn’t paying for anyone to chuck teabags, it’s income that will help the club to exist in the long term.
Read the last four words of my original post.

Take a paycut to the Govt threshold of £2500 a month. If they have large mortgages, take a payment holiday.
That's what the rest of the country are doing.
My daughter is a trainee radiographer for the NHS and my son works for a large pharmaceutical store - neither earn close to £2500 a month but their efforts are keeping the likes of JH and ZH safe to chuck teabags for a hell of a lot more than £2500 a month.
Perhaps if the original question was re-phrased to "Would you be willing to pay £350 per head to the Government for a Covid-Levy"? I wonder how many of the ST holders would happily do that?

| Everyone’s circumstances are different but I personally wouldn’t want a penny back from the club, even if there are no more games. This whole situation is horrendous for everyone involved and it’s something nobody would’ve seen coming. I want a normal life back at some point (as does everyone) and a big part of mine is going watching rugby league. If my season ticket money plays a small part in helping the club then that’s great.
I’d like to think I’ll have a job at the end of all this and will be able to put more money (however small the amount is) in to the club and the game. That’s not to forget the fund raising that’s needed for the NHS and other various charities. Everyone who can needs to play a small part (a small wager on the virtual grand national is a start, with the proceeds going to the NHS) and I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities via fund raising events. A good start would be getting these premier league footballers to carry some of the financial burden. Bar the odd one, there doesn’t seem to be any rush for them to do that.

The excuse by those in football including players union, that if they took a 30% cut in pay, it would mean that they would pay less tax and less would go to the NHS is only a illustration of how footballers and their agents have become more and more greedy and selfish since the ending of the maximum wage. How do they think footballers of that time would have coped with the situation we have now when they were on a pittance like £20 per week (average pay around a third of that figure) compared to the telephones number pay they are on today.
The England Manager, Gareth Southgate has set a example and taken a 30% cut, but as yet, not many of the overpaid prima donna's have done likewise.

They’re throwing every excuse out they can. If they’re worried about that then pay them in full and let them donate to a central pot. Many have done their bit but many have not. Wayne Rooney is really grating on me. His comments that footballers are being made scapegoats sticks in the throat a little but not as much as when he commented that they’d been treated as guinea pigs, all because they were asked to play on for about a week after we started to get cases here. Other sports played past their date and if footballers are guinea pigs, what does that make the shelf stackers, cashiers, bin collectors, delivery men, warehouse workers and so on and on and on. That’s before we start on the frontline NHS staff.

They aren't footballers - other than the marquee players I don't think you could classify the standard paid Super League player as rich. They will still live within their means and have mortgages to pay. A lot of them will be on £50k or less surely.
I don't pretend to know the salaries of the players, but I do know what some of the younger lads were on a few years ago and it's not much.

The article in the Sunday Times by Wayne Rooney just show's what a different planet these people live in. Liverpool (and others) putting staff on furlough while the players are paid in full might be legal but it certainly isn't moral . The majority of Premier League players even the lowest paid ones will earn more in a week than Tom and Tina in the ticket office earn in a year. All these football managers business people and the like making noise about taking 20 - 30% pay cuts doesn't cut any ice while at the same time they are laying off all their staff on 80% wages (max £2'500). I bet Tom and Tina in the ticket office wouldn't mind living for 3 months on 70% of Daniel Levy's (Spurs) £7m he earned from them last year and just put his staff on furlough .

| I do not necessarily disagree with Wayne Rooney but if a club is making the taxpayer pay the wages of it 's employees then it obviously should be making savings elsewhere. If big football clubs are not willing to do their bit then the decision should be taken away from the people in charge. Sadly the government are unlikely to look too closely at profiteering given the level of self interest and incompetence being exhibited.

I see Liverpool have just backed down and admitted they were wrong to furlough their non playing staff. I wouldn’t hold my breath of Levy doing the same, regardless of the fact they made a profit of £58m last year and have a majority shareholder worth 4 billion quid.
I’m a big football fan but the greed at the top of the game has sickened me for a long time. I’d love to think this experience will wake a few people up to just how morally bankrupt the premier league is. I know they’re under the microscope these players more so than cricketers, rugby players etc but we’ve had Jack Grelish out seeing his mates, Wayne Rooney (the over paid footballers new union rep by the looks) out seeing Kyle Walker and Kyle Walker himself throwing some sort of sex party. These guys wonder why they’re being seen as villains.

That's what annoys me. They know they won't receive the same level of punishment as us normal folk and basically don't give a stuff what they do.

Yes, they will pay less tax if they took a 30% pay cut, but it is no excuse for not making more effort in the present crisis.
For example, how many of players like Rooney and indeed officials of the Players Union like Gordon Taylor, have made a substantial donation to the NHS from their non taxable personal fortunes.
Today's overpaid prima donna's should consider themselves lucky that they were not living during the days of the maximum wage when even star players like Finney, Lofthouse, Matthews etc,etc had to have a job or small business to supplement their income and like Rugby League players lived in the same areas as the supporters and even travelled to a game on a bus with the supporters.
When Jimmy Hill and George Eastham of the Players Union got the maximum wage abolished, they later admitted that they had never even considered that it would lead to the vast salaries and lifestyles that players have today.

| I have always thought it unreasonable, and frankly, lazy thinking, that it always seems to be footballers who get the stick for being overpaid, and this criticism often seems to come from media pundits who possess no great skills of their own. Wayne Rooney is (or was) paid what he is precisely because others couldn't do what he does. You or I could not replace Wayne Rooney, however much practice or training we had. And yet, I'm sure after a short training period, I daresay many of us could make a half-decent fist of doing the job that Ant and Dec, Schofield, Eamonn Holmes etc , do. The ability to read an autocue is not rocket science!
Meanwhile, in the US, individuals are profiteering from selling PPE masks on to States that desperately need it.
Let's not lose track of who are the bad guys here!

| Just kicks a ball about? It might seem a charmed life but do you know how hard it is to become a top level footballer? It's probably the most competitive job in the world. No it isnt heroic etc but put it this way a normal person dropped into a Premier league game would look ridiculous, drop a normal person onto a film set and they could well do a decent job (many examples of untrained actors making a success in that nonsense industry). Top actors get paid more than top footballers, they never get the stick footballers get.

It's not even about being just a footballer. The way look at it is that at his peak Rooney was easily in the top 50 in the world at what he does. If I was in the top 50 in the world at my job then I'd be on a hell of a lot of money as well.

| And if you were in the top 50 nurses you'd still earn a fraction of what Rooney does. The problem is that society places ridiculous values on some people's 'worth' while completely undervaluing people of true worth. That's why the various Kardashians are collectively worth billions for doing...well, you tell me!
Not Rooney's fault, or other footballers, actors, TV or social media stars for that matter, but a problem society as a whole should address. That doesn't mean that the aforementioned shouldn't, in the meantime, recognise what a privileged position they are in and act accordingly.
